The Counter-Actor is considered by some to be the strongest specifically anime villain to exist. Before the existence of the multiverse there were three Goddesses known as the Chousin. The Chousin were seemingly omnipotent.. until they asked if they were. The Three speculated on whether there was or could be a being stronger than them, and in their thought experiment, they caused the creation of the multiverse, a massive science experiment of higher dimensional deities to create the supreme being. What they didn't realize is that their actions caused a counter-action, all forces needing to be balanced out and coming to zero. Every force they used in their actions had a counterforce which would all collect into a single being, a being that could counteract even the Chousin ironically fulfilling their original goal, the Counter-Actor.
On the alien world of Jurai a girl was born to the royal house known as Misaki Masaki Jurai, born with extraordinary gifts. A highly emotional and sweet girl with both powers and royalty she became the second of Emperor Azusa's two wives, devoted to her husband and greatly admiring her co-wife Funaho. However far in the future Azusa and Funaho will perish and mad with grief, Misaki awakens to her true nature as the collective culmination of the counterforce for every action the Chousin have done. As the Counter-Actor she was fired on by her own people trying to stop her, causing horrific wounds across her body including a blast through her head. This did nothing to her, but she keeps the wounds from healing, perhaps to show the way she has been hurt by the world.
The Counter-Actor is considered the exact equal opposite force to the Chousin, three Goddesses who created the multiverse with all its dimensions and physical laws. This multiverse is comprised of infinite experiments the Chousin ran through to create a being superior to them. Their true forms also exist outside space and time and so speed is irrelevant to them.
Misaki even before awakening has supernatural gifts being considered the greatest martial artist on Jurai without even trying and being able to climb the massive Tenju tree as a child. She was able to outrun her babysitters who were skilled warriors the moment she learned to walk. She was hyper-competent. She also was born of incredible strength and skill to the point of being able to physically harm the physical avatars of the Chousin, avatars who could wipe out solar systems in an instant, which Misaki did accidentally...with a hug. Beyond that, like all Jurai Royalty she can create an astral copy of herself and can live for thousands of years.
After awakening as the Counter-Actor she will become obviously immensely more powerful with presumably reality-warping abilities on the scale of the Chousin who created the multiverse and all its laws, turn back time, manipulate the astral and mental planes even creating the multiverse as part of a thought experiment, and be immune to all physical laws. Her physical form is functionally immune to any kind of death as can be seen by the fact that the majority of her body was shot through and it just didn't faze her and as a sentient counter-force her true form is likely also abstract. It's likely she has the ability to generate Light-Hawk Wings, a form of energy wings that can be used to manipulate energy, form a barrier around oneself, teleport, absorb all forms of attack including psychic attacks, and manipulate spacetime such as inverting black holes or penetrating into hyperspace. These Light-Hawk Wings are manifestations of the Chousins' aura and should be replicable for their opposite.
Finally there's her main ability and what she was made for, counter-acting. The Counter-Actor seems to have the ability to counteract or negate the abilities of others, even threatening the Chousin despite their immortality and reality-warping powers. The Counter-Actor only appears very briefly so her list of demonstrated abilities are quite small but she likely has more abilities beyond this. It is stated by the Chousin, Goddesses that exist in over 20 dimensional-space, that only Kami Tenchi, the result of their quest to find an entity stronger than them and the God of the setting, can stop the Counter-Actor.
In terms of weaknesses, the Counter-Actor is mentally and emotionally unstable and was beaten by Kami Tenchi showing up and calming her down with a kiss. Also, it's likely the Counter-Actor has the same weakness as the Chousin where despite their immense power they are not very precise with it such that they must limit themselves dramatically in order to interact with places like 3-dimensional space without accidentally crushing similar to a scientist using precise tools to interact with a petri dish. The Chousin believe they could have stopped the Counter-Actor at least at one point but to do so would have required the destruction of the Third Dimension in its entirety.

So how would the Counter-Actor do in counteracting other verses?
In the DC Comics Multiverse, The Counter-Actor would be considered a Sphere of the Gods tier entity with infinite physical power and possibly infinite conceptual power making her similar to the New Gods who can crush the Multiverse by falling on it, and with powerful Gods of the Godsphere being able to affect infinitely sized realms like Hell or Heaven with Neron and Lord Satanus able to warp all of Hell or Darkseid being able to manipulate Apokalips. However, she would struggle to affect anything higher as she lacks metafictional abilities and the Fifth Dimension is a metafictional dimension.
Against most of the Godsphere entities Misaki's power of counter-acting would work but wouldn't be an especially broken ability particularly against some of the higher godsphere entities who have large arrays of broken abilities like Darkseid, Zeus, or Neron. I think a really interesting match might her vs the Anti-Monitor as of COIE. The Anti-Monitor's primary power is the usage of antimatter which in DC is a realm comprising one third of the multiverse that nullifies all matter-energy forces from the matter realm including things like magic. This would make it a real battle between power negators.
In Marvel Comics, The Counter-Actor would be considered a low Abstract Tier entity in a similar tier to the High Skyfathers. This would be the same tier as the Abstracts Love and Hate, Chaos and Order, as well as the cosmic entities Fully Fed Galactus, Odin, the Ones Who Sit in Shadow, or the Vishanti. These entities can affect infinite planes of reality with their power with the conceptual literally being concepts existing across the multiverse similar to the Counter-Actor.
Ironically the Counter-Actor would struggle to kill the strongest Abstracts like Eternity and Infinity for the same reason people in her own universe struggle to kill her, while she exists in more than 20 dimensions, Eternity represents an infinitely-dimensioned cosmos meaning the Counter-Actor doesn't have the area of effect to hit his "true" form. I think Counter-Actor would have a particularly bad matchup against Love and Hate as these psychological factors more than anything else rule her mind and are the way Kami Tenchi defeated her initially. On the other hand, I think she would have a particularly strong match-up against both the Vishanti and the Celestials. The Vishanti are three magical deities similar to the Chousin and her Ability of Counter-Acting would likely negate their ability in a similar way she could to the Chousin. Conversely the Celestials powers come from manipulation of the physical laws of the universe but the Counter-Actor exists outside them and she could counteract their regeneration. She probably would lose to Odin however as The All-Father is known for his wisdom above all things and Misaki is emotionally unstable and would be fairly easy to manipulate combined with Odin's relative stats and larger variety of abilities.
Noein is another one of the verses considered among the strongest anime verses, considered by some when it came out as the second strongest anime verse after Tenchi Muyo, so how would The Counter-Actor do if she was within it? Well in a direct fight, Misaki would almost certainly win. Noein was able to absorb the entire multiverse and Haruka was able to restore it with her power but The Counter-Actor is a conceptual entity whose origins predate the multiverse and its law itself. The central power of the verse, manipulation of quantum realities would do nothing against The Counter-Actor predates quantum mechanics and in a direct fight she could Counter-Act ultimate observer abilities turning Haruka into a normal 12 year old girl and Noein into a normal spooky floating mask. Without the ability to attack conceptual entities it's unlikely they could kill Misaki directly.
However Noein can interact with the physical multiverse from Shangri-La his personal realm which is a realm of consciousness which Misaki might have trouble interacting with directly. While the Chousin have shown the ability to manipulate physical laws, souls, and memories, they've never shown the ability to affect consciousness itself. And while The-Counter Actor could probably physically interact with Noein at close range due to being conceptual there's no reason to think she could just reach Shangr-La at will. It's possible form there Noein could just convince Misaki to give up, especially after a long time, though this is an unlikely scenario to occur especially in a standard vs setting.
Another verse Tenchi Muyo God Tiers were compared to were the God Tiers of Slayers, so how would the Counter-Actor do in Slayers? Each Stave of Slayers floating in the chaos is an infinite multiverse where a different version of the demonic Mazoku and the godlike Shinzoku which are astral entities battle. Each Stave has 4 Ma-o, rulers of the Mazoku, who have infinite physical power though do have finite astral power and they have a hierarchy between them, with the strongest Shinzoku being similar in power. This means they would be identical to Counter-Actor in physical power, though her power would likely be higher on a higher plane. The Counter-Actor would have no trouble defeating any single Mazoku or Shinzoku due being able to hit the astral plane and being a conceptual entity they likely can't kill but particularly with her erratic mindset might take a while to fight the sheer number the verse has considering there seems to be 8 per Stave and "many" staves.
That said it would be relatively hard for them to defeat her as it's unknown if they can hit conceptual entities. Plus she's a higher dimensional entity which they would find hard to beat. However even if the Counter-Actor does beat them there is an even stronger entity in Slayers, the infamous Lord of Nightmares. L-Sama not only has conceptual but also metafictional attacks capable of attacking her own author. Her infinite Chaos Manipulation would also be able to likely Counter-Acting. Lord of Nightmares would likely win the fight pretty quickly, while the Counter-Actor is considered by some the strongest anime villain, LoN is considered by some to be the strongest anime character in general, depending on definition of what counts as an "anime" character
Gensokyo is another world made by a trinity of goddess-like entities, so how would The Counter-Actor do in the Touhou Project? One of the Sages of Gensokyo, Okina Matara maintained a reflection of the multiverse including a conceptually infinite realm, suggesting the Sages would be equal in physical power to the Chousin and have even higher conceptual power. This means that while The Counter-Actor would be equal to a Sage on the physical plain, she probably couldn't hurt them on the conceptual plane, let alone characters who exist on an even higher plane which she couldn't affect at all.
While the Counter-Actor through infinite stats would be able to easily beat almost anyone who is sub-Sage tier, and while Misaki could at least threaten anyone with a physical or astral type body such as Yukari or Kasen, any actual deity who exists beyond the conceptual would be completely outside her ability to affect even with Counter-Acting. Even if she was to fight Yukari or Kasen while her ability would nullify their abilities, Kasen could just as easily use her shadow arm to steal counter-acting or Yukari could just manipulate the boundary of action and counter-action to allow the former to encompass the latter, reverting to Misaki, meaning it would functionally be a quick draw where the Counter-Actor would be not as skilled in danmaku as her opponents. Plus even if she did negate Yukari or Kasen's abilities they would still hypothetically be able to use their vast intellects to manipulate the erratic Misaki into giving up. Probably wouldn't work but it does mean that if it was 50/50 otherwise that would tip it in their favor more. Her being a higher dimensional entity might be a difficulty, though Touhou powers are so broad in what they can do I imagine the sages could get around this ability if Yukari adjusted the boundary between spatial dimensions or Sagume mentions it will be hard for them to affect The Counter-Actor due to higher dimensional nature due to her speech-reversal ability. If you think that being higher-dimensional then she's just unaffectable for the tier without explicit feats than she would be a general Sage Tier character being able to beat about half of them and then stalemating the other half. Otherwise, The Counter-Actor would definitely be a Sage-Tier character but probably the weakest one.
It would be very hard for anyone else in the tier to take her own due to her infinite stats though stealth based strategies like Koishi or especially Doremy for manipulating her emotions may be able to stop her.
Finally, I've been told that Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy is probably the strongest cartoon overall so how would possibly anime's strongest villain due in the strongest cartoon? While even the high tiers are usually stronger than The Counter-Actor by an infinite amount the most powerful magic users and gods of this setting have the ability to change their size and powers even growing to be infinitely big. Broadly speaking The Counter-Actor would be a fairly normal God at their maximum extent for the verse. Counter-Acting would be a fairly strong power in general that would allow her to take on most of the verse's big name opponents, especially since many characters in the tier rely on objects and if she counter-acts them, they would be rendered mostly powerless. However in contrast her defenses would be fairly low tier. She'd probably be able to resist Father Time's time manipulation given she's outside physical laws like time, but being conceptual is not considered a very strong defense in this verse with many characters having conceptual or metafictional forms of attack. She would have the advantage of being a more serious and skilled fighter than most of the tier.
However, there are three fighters I don't think she would do very well against. Horror the god of the Underworld was able to use fear manipulation so intense it caused someone to literally explode and Eris is a Platonic Goddess of Chaos that would have the same advantages the Lord of Nightmares did earlier. The former would be able to hypothetically break Misaki's will and the latter would be able to hypothetically resist Counter-Acting via Infinite Chaos Manipulation and bypass The Counter-Actor existing in 20-dimensional space by sending her to a puppet dimension that metafictionally turns one into a puppet and ironically nullifies all their powers. Granted one on one Misaki could beat either of them via manipulation of their items but the real counter to her is one of the characters whose name is in the title.
Mandy is famously one of the strongest willed and most powerful psychological manipulators in cartoons to the point of being considered a relative mental challenge to a Type 5 supergenius like Dexter. Future Mandy has turned into a giant wormlike monster immune to all the powers of the verse including presumably the power nullification of the puppet dimension meaning she could outright resist Counter-Acting as well as most of Misaki's abilities. If the two were to face off, they would likely enter a stare-down and a psychological test comparing the erratic and broken sweet girl Misaki with the metaphorical embodiment of will and evil Mandy. Overall even if the Counter-Actor does manage to use her more serious mindset and taking advantage of the verse's weaknesses to beat the rest of the verse I think Mandy the villain protagonist would be able to protect the verse from Misaki the villain antagonist.
So This was a really good blog imp! I have actually heard about Tenchi Muyo from one of my friends who thought it was the strongest shonen and could beat Saint Seyia. Well, its definitely not a Shonen :D and im unsure if it can beat Saint Seyia. I gathered from how Misaki is one of the strongest characters and how she would almost certainly lose to Darkseid. and how an earlier blog you made said that if the entire SS Verse teamed up they could Beat Darkseid it seems comparable!
ReplyDeleteI Liked Misaki as a character a suprising amount, she seems cutsey and extremely compelling, one of those villains thats hard to truly label as such, despite how powerful she is. Your comparisons to other verses were really cool and i thought especially thorough this time around, it was cool to imagine her interacting with the Concepts of Marvel, or the Lord of Nightmares, or the Sages of Gensokyo! I thoought it was interesting how Misaki seems to be like a Benchmark for fictional got tiers, as all these verses you compared her to have similar levels of power. But half of them shed do super well in and the other half shed get destroyed in, especially in verses packing the Absolute tier!
Nice blog! Tenchi Muyo is one anime I have heard of multiple times over the years, but never really watched so it was cool to learn more about it. I think I am finding myself more and more interested in divine and godly type characters in vs debating, so Misaki turned out to be really interesting conceptually to me with her basically being a counteraction of the Chousin goddesses. I remember we talked about higher dimensional beings/attacks relatively recently so it was also cool to see how a 20 Dimensional being would work in all of these verses. It was especially cool seeing where’d she fit in all of these OP verses and the types of abilities she’d do poorly against such as those with metafictional powers or chaos manipulation. I liked seeing all of these verses, but Billy & Mandy was probably my favorite. Mandy being the one who is able to stop the Counter Actor feels REALLY in character for her. And of course Touhou was pretty cool too, especially with hypotheticals such as Yukari manipulating the boundary between dimensions. So overall great blog. I gotta say you made me more interested in Tenchi.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know you got into researching and scaling Tenchi Muyo.
ReplyDelete"Noein is another one of the verses considered among the strongest anime verses, considered by some when it came out as the second strongest anime verse after Tenchi Muyo"
ReplyDeleteI thought that was Slayers at their very worst and was under the impression that in the OBD, since LoN is now considered > Kami Tenchi, that Slayers would be > Tenchi Muyo?
and aren't there actually infinite staves in Slayers higher than each other akin to spatial-temporal dimensions (I know dimensional-tiering is often considered to be a pretty highly skeptical and questionable method of scaling characters especially by OBD standards) and if each stave contains an infinite multiverse and they're all in the Sea of Chaos and L-Sama transcends them all, wouldn't that make her infinite megaversal putting her on roughly equal to where we would consider Kami Tenchi nowadays at worst and at best multi-megaversal or potentially omniversal putting her well above and beyond him and all of Tenchi Muyo's verse by leagues?
ReplyDeleteAlso I think Touhou looks like a more interesting series than Tenchi Muyo to some degree, but I'm goddamn surprised there exists even one character in Touhou that can take down the Counter-Actor. I always thought one of Tenchi Muyo's strongest characters would actually effortlessly neg Touhou without question.
ReplyDelete"Finally, I've been told that Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy is probably the strongest cartoon overall so how would possibly anime's strongest villain due in the strongest cartoon?"
ReplyDeleteStar vs the Forces of Evil and arguably Gravity Falls alone depending on how high you scale/wank Bill Cipher via dimensional-tiering probably beats them for that title now, even though I still love Grim as a cartoon more than Gravity Falls overall.
