How to be OP in Bayonetta-verse.
I should note this is relevant as of Bayonetta 2 and the information contained MAY chance in Bayonetta 3.
Local Scale Threat:
The Angelic Armies of Paradiso in Bayonetta are divided into three spheres, themselves divided into 3 ranks each to create 9 ranks. The Local Scale Threats would then by those Angels of The Third Sphere and any that are comparable to them in power, including their Demonic Equivalents.
In terms of power, the strength of the Third Spheres is a bit undefined. Even the 9th Rank Angels, Lowest of the Third Angel however should be at least stronger then humans (As Demon Hideous is stronger then any normal human and it's considered an equivalent of a 9th Rank Angel) like Luka who survived being telekinetically thrown several stone pillars, requiring wall level power. The 8th Rank Archangels include the type known as Fidelity which can survive the depths of the ocean. Depending on area this would likely require tanking at least building level durability. Above even these are the Principalities who should scale easily to these Angels.
In terms of speed, any Angel can move so fast that the human world seems frozen in comparison, 9th Rank Angels being able to have a fight with Bayonetta while a car just hung frozen in air. Speeds of this magnitude are generally hypersonic to massively hypersonic as a lowball. the Principality Type Irenic was capable of moving a distance thousands of times the size of the "human world" in a day. Taking the conservative estimate of the human world as Earth, this would require speeds over Mach 866. As such the power speed limit is MHS Building Level.
It's a common misconception that the Angels and Demons in Bayonneta "can turn invisible and intangible". This is not technically correct. Angels and Demons in Bayonneta naturally exist in Purgatorio, the transient reality or dimension between the trinity of Heaven, Hell, and Earth. From purgatory they can affect Earth but are not affected in turn. What this means pragmatically is that a different set of tactics are needed to fight them.
Common counters to invisibility such as enhanced hearing (or other senses), special forms of vision (heat vision/x-ray vision/etc.) wouldn't work on an Angel or Demon from Bayonetta, as it's not that they are there but invisible, it's that they aren't "there" in the first place. Likewise normal forms of anti-intangibility like soul steal or brainwashing or just general ability to affect non-physical entities wouldn't work since they simply they aren't there to be affected.
On the other hand inter-dimensional movement or range/sensory abilities WOULD be very effective since they don't seem invisible or intangible in the context of Purgatorio, as in to anyone there. As such inter-dimensional capacity is really important. It's not made clear which Angels or Demons actually can enter the Human Realm (IE travel dimensions) as they generally have no reason too though at the very least it's clear VERY powerful Demons can do so as Rodin was capable of being seen by normal human Enzo. Interestingly it's the weaker Angels that are stated to exist closer to the human world then the stronger ones.
It should be noted that Angels and Demons can be seen in reflective surfaces like mirrors/magical eyewear or by enlightened individuals, most notably the description for Enrapture stated that an enlightened monk caught a glimpse of Enrapture.
In terms of special abilities, Angels wield a wide variety of middle age era styled weaponry including swords, hammers, bows, whips etc. Dear and Decorations, 9th Rank Angels can imbue people with love with their cupid like bows. Also while the Angels don't have "normal" intangibility, intangibility is not a very good strategy as the Ardor and Allegiance of the Principality rank are both noted as defenders against evil spirits and implied to be able to slay them. The Demon rank include more weapons like scythes and shotguns, the Demon Fury has a petrifying eye beam, and Demon Malicious is a noted manipulator.
So what weaknesses does this tier have? Well a general weakness I've noted is that the verse is a reliance on weapons, so a strategy for destroying or stealing weapons (like telekinesis) would likely be a effective strategy.
Well the relatively low tier Angels and Demons actually seem to be relatively simple-minded and are defeated by high skill/dexterity builds. In addition as also demonstrated often by Bayonetta spacetime and dimension haxes seem to work very well, using it to bolster agility and dodging. The tier lacks any "direct" powers; everything is melee, projectiles or beams (IE has to go through space to hit target) meaning spacing, including literal manipulation of the space between them and opponent breaks their strategies.
This leads to my first counter, from another Spectacle Fighter Game
Gullveig from God of War.
Gullveig seems to be the strongest of the Revenants. It's difficult to get a scale for her stats as Kratos spends much of God of War 4 holding back his power, as showcased in the side material when Kratos lets a pack of wolves bite at him for hours, holding them off without killing a single one to set a good example for Atreus. However as a speed based enemy, Gullveig likely scales to be at least comparable to Harpies from the Greek World who are so relatively weak that normal humans can react to them. The Harpies themselves are fast enough to fly from the Underworld much of the way up Olympus in seconds (with Olympus being the size of a planetoid) as well as fly from the depths of Hades to deliver the Blades of Chaos to Ares when he made his deal with Kratos. This is consistent with her being relatively fast for the Norse World, which have enemies with lightning based attacks.
Gullveig as a Revenant has the ability to tear holes in reality, using this to teleport and avoid attacks. This could potentially BFR a Third Sphere Angel or Similar Demon and more importantly could use their own game against them by making her basically immune to the game. She also uses powerful poison, which the Tier does not have resistance too. She can also summon nightmares, little demons that can shoot fire, ice for freezing or MORE poison. Unless she gets swarmed, it's hard to imagine her losing to anyone on this tier.
However raw numbers might be a problem, especially given how plentiful the Local Tier is. For a character who can take on a larger number I would suggest
Haku from Naruto.
Haku's power was enough that he was considered a rival to Sasuke early on who in his Chapter 7 fight with Kakashi created a fire large enough that it was on the lower end of city block level. As Haku was considered rivaling him, that means his power would have had to be at least in the large building range. Haku was also go across an entire battlefield and stop Kakashi from hurting Zabuza, and Kakashi is fast enough to slice lightning in half giving him MHS speeds. It should be noted that Haku can technically travel from one ice mirror to another ice mirror at the speed of light, however this is not really his speed so much as it is a special technique that allows him to go from place to place at faster then his normal speed, similar to how other characters might use teleportation or "rocket jump".
Haku is a skilled and dexterous fighter, and moreover has good versatility via his elemental manipulation. Haku in particular is skilled in ice manipulation and his famous ice mirrors tricks which would allow him to see the Angels and Demons in their reflected surfaces and even hypothetically attack them. It's unknown if he could use pressure point combat on the local tier threats, as they likely do not have human pressure points however his raw power should be enough to hurt them.
The bigger problem for this is his sheer defensive ability which they would have almost no ability to get through. Not only is his base durability near the end of what would be allowed here, but he can create an even more durable dome to protect him in using his ice mirrors, he can avoid their attacks really easily using stealth, mirror-to-mirror movement, general dodging, etc. But he's also an Edo Tensei meaning that unless he is sealed or his soul is destroyed he can continually regenerate over and over. While it's unknown what the Stamina for the Angels and Demons are, being an Edo Tensei also gives unlimited chakra, and thus stamina.
However you could argue that Haku might have trouble hitting people in Limbo, and if he was hit out in the open a number of principalities might be able to destroy his body and attack his spirit. While this would be difficult, there's one more character whose power would actually be stronger due to the number of enemy forces.
Yami Bakura from Yu-Gi-Oh!
In terms of power, Yami Bakura likely scales to the power of the High Priest of Darkness, as the High Priest was just given power by Zorc, while Yami Bakura is the human manifestation of Zorc. Meaning without his summons Bakura likely scales to High Priest of Darkness' dark lightning which destroyed a large portion of the ground, likely building level, which is consistent as Yami Yugi survived this lightning. Yami Bakura also scales to the Labyrinth Duel Duelists who reacted to electricity traveling through water, giving him MHS reactions.
There are a LOT of low levels Demons in Bayonetta, it's emphasized that the lower tier ones are numerous and roam in packs. There are some Second Sphere angels whose sole purpose is just to transport all the Third Sphere Angels. Bakura has the ability to sense and absorb evil energy, including the demonic power of the Demons to get MASSIVELY more powerful.
And this is only the START of his abilities. Bakura has inter-dimensional capacities as the final game of darkness was Yugi and Bakura using an entire dimension as a game, with them observing the dimension from without it. Bakura also has general clairvoyance with his millennium item meaning he could perceive distant events as well as precognition since the Millennium Ring told Aknadin of the future.
The Millennium Items also have the ability to block dark magic, which possibly would be able to protect demons. Beyond that it gives telekinesis, which he used to keep Yami Marik in place and telekinteically throw Aknadin, suggesting he could rip his enemies weapons away.
Bakura also has soul manipulation, mind manipulation and sealing via the games of darkness as well as the Ring's primarily ability; the ability to divide the soul and seal it within anything else. These are things the Local Threats have no resistance too, and would not just be a one-shot but would actually bolster his own power by taking control of them.
Bakura is also a clever manipulator, more so then anyone on this tier where the best manipulator is Demon Malicious where Bakura has a lot better feats.
This is not including his summons, since obviously those are a lot stronger then him, and he did not initially have Diabound or obviously duel monster cards since this was Ancient Egypt.
City Scale Threat:
Here we find the Angels of the Second Sphere and their Demonic Equivalents. This is arguably the single largest power jump in the series outside of the final one as the other power jumps are billions of times stronger while this one is trillions of times stronger.
The Angelic Ranks here include 7th Rank Powers, 6th Rank Virtues, and 5th Rank Dominions. A 7th Rank is strong enough to fodderize Third Spheres and the Urbane, which is a 6th rank, mid tier of the Second Sphere Angels can reduce an entire civilization to ash with a single swipe of it's arm. In terms of speed, they mostly just scale to Third Spheres, however 5th Rank Dominion Fearless controls nearly all lightning in the world, including the return stroke moving about 1/3rd the speed of light. As such it's likely the top tiers of this tier have relativistic reactions and attack speed.
At this scale, most fighters use elemental powers and attacks rather then magical weapons and so anti-weapon tactics and telekinesis are not as useful. Outside of that there isn't much more notable abilities outside of the characters becoming more spiritual and likely requiring some form of anti-intangibility as well as inter-dimensional capacity as well as Demon Sloth having mind manipulation.
So my first counter is someone who I think would be basically untouchable and unbeatable to this tier, though you could maybe argue it's against the rules, that being
Pariah Dark from Danny Phantom.
Pariah even in his base form is a god tier for the verse, and he has two items the Ring of Rage and the Crown of Fire. Even in his base state he's stronger then his servant the Fright Knight who was able to create a planetary scale storm, requiring country level energy, as well as another powerful ghost Vortex who performed the same feat. This is consistent with island level feats from weaker ghosts such as how ghosts create their own lairs with their energy and Skulker's lair is a whole island, or how Spectra survived a weapon that could atomize a ghost. He's also faster then the ghost rays used by Technus in season 2 which moved at relativistic speeds. In other words while he's not technically not above the relativistic country level limit, he pragmatically is due to simply how much higher then baseline he is. He would be able to tank basically any strike from this tier and blitz any of the fighters.
However even ignoring that, his abilities are absolutely broken in this tier. Danny Phantom ghosts have full invisibility/anti-invisibility and intangibility/anti-intangibility interactions, more consistent then basically anyone in this tier. He also has insane dimension hax, as he was able to send a city and it's surrounding area into another dimension, and even more insane passively maintained it, keeping the city there every second as when he started to falter, the city briefly blinked back into the normal reality. This means that Pariah could not only send the verse's defenders to the ghost zone at will as a dimensional BFR, he can also passively keep them there, even if they tried to return.
Pariah also has a massive versatility advantage. Much weaker ghosts have shown regeneration, telekinesis, various form of energy projection, and other abilities that are not specific to that ghost suggesting that Pariah would also be able to do them. With both the ring and the crown Pariah was seen as basically undefeatable including by Ember McClain who has a lot stronger mindhax feats then Demon Sloth, meaning Sloth's power is highly unlikely to work against Pariah.
For a character who would also be op without a massive power advantage I would suggest
Tart (Second Version) from Puella Magi Madoka Magicka
Tart in her second form in terms of power was able to battle against even Isabeau, a Witch powerful enough to cover all of France with her barrier and threatened to send all of Europe back into the Dark Ages. In terms of speed a lot of people try to say that the Puella Magi are all over Mach 619 due to Homura massively outspeeding a bullet however this is unlikely this high as this was during a Time Stop when caused the bullets of Mami and Homura's fight earlier to rapidly slow to a complete stop. A better feat to scale from is Momoko's feat of jumping into space in seconds. Tart's speed should be at least somewhat comparable to this, which would give her MHS speed.
Tart like all magical girls has the ability to enter portals, which they generally use the ability to enter a witch's barrier. She has an advantage in versatility due to her light/dark manipulation, her telekinesis, portal creation, the fact that she can sense magic and imbue objects with magic etc.
Most notably is Tart's incredible skill, enough that she can fight beings with vastly more experience then her, and is a highly dexterous fighter, something the Angels/Demons have shown notable trouble fighting against versus Bayonetta. She also has a massive regen factor, so long as her soul gem remains intact she is functionally unkillable. This means the Angels and Demons would be fighting against a tiny swordswoman that doesn't at all seem threatening at first, who can sense their magic, can skillfully dodge their attacks and slice through them with her holy sword, can portal around, etc. and who even if they do hit her, she can just regenerate unless they hit her soul gem, something they have no way of even guessing to do.
Also a lesser known ability of hers, Tart actually also possesses time manipulation, as it's suggesting her despair can effect events in far distant times, hundreds of years removed even.
For a character that would be even more hax against the verse I would suggest
Reinforce, formerly the Tome of the Night Sky, from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha.
In Terms of Power, Reinforce was massively stronger then Chrono even back in As, as it was stated the TSAB could not stop the Tome of the Night Sky's power, and Chrono created a country level freezing effect. Her speed is also over Mach 1000 as she was able to intercept As Fate in her sonic form who could move fast enough that beings with mach 1000 reactions thought Fate was a teleporter because they couldn't even view her moment. As such Reinforce should easily be in the same power range as this tier.
Reinforce has the ability to see invisible entities and affect intangible entities uniquely for the Nanoha-verse as Reinforce was able to speak to and interact with beings made of pure data like the Wolkenritter and Hayate after she had absorbed them.
Reinforce also possess the many abilities generally possessed by high tier mages of the Nanoha verse, including magical barriers, inter-dimensional sealing and homing attacks, dimension manipulation, inter-dimensional scanning, psychic abilities and so on. Reinforce would be able to easily perceive the Angels and Demons in Limbo and seal them from far outside their perception, akin to an artillery with satellite and drone information fighting basically a middle ages/renaissance army.... if that Artillery's attacks were also homing attacks that could seal them away in dimensions and was inside an advanced underground bunker.
Reinforce also possess many other abilities including elemental manipulation, memory manipulation, illusions, soul manipulation and so that gives her many other abilities to mess with her opponents or one-shot them. She also has a low-godly regen factor as she can return from pure data, which makes him extremely difficult for the verse to deal with even if she did nothing.
Reinforce also possesses the most famous ability of the Tome of the Night Sky, the ability to create dimensional disturbances, shockwaves that transcend dimensions that can hit the Angels/Demons far outside their perfection just as a side-effect of her power, that would cut or crush parts of them with force.
Planet Scale Threat:
The Highest Ranking of Angels are the First Sphere Angels, Third Rank Thrones, Second Rank Cherubim and First Rank Seraphim. Transcending even these are the Cardinal Virtues, projections of the will of Jubileus who are able to challenge a "rusty" memory-less Bayonetta. The Thrones Rank Inspired, Cherubim Rank Valiance and Seraphim Rank Joy are all noted as wholly spiritual entities showing that First Sphere beings transcend physical existence completely. These do have demonic equivalents. In terms of power this tier has Resplendence, a Thrones rank Angel who is noted as being capable of turning night to day just be peeking over the horizon as well overturning the laws of nature, as well as Gracious and Glorious the Seraphim Ranked Angels who have such power that a mere taste is said to be able to destroy the world. In terms of speed, characters at this tier can keep up with an early Bayonetta who can dodge lightspeed attacks casually at close range, and are much stronger then Second Sphere Fearless who create nearly all natural lightning. This would suggest the tier would be in the FTL range.
The Demons have equivalent beings to the First Sphere Angels, this ranking often making pacts with mortals, most notably the Umbra Witches whom they give their power too. Bayonetta used these demons as finishing blows against the Virtues showing their comparable power. It is likely that most Umbra Witches and Lumen Sages are at this tier as well, as Jeanne before the timeskip was comparable of fighting evenly with Bayonetta and so they should likely scale to a memory-less rusty Bayonetta partially just playing around.
In terms of notable abilities this tier possesses fully spiritual beings, in fact a good portion of the characters at this tier are spiritual plane beings. Resplendence is noted for it's ability to overturn the laws of nature which potentially suggest it has some form of reality-warping. The Demons possess soul manipulation and power granting/absorption. Alraune is also in particular noted for her poision and ability to induce insanity and the demon Resentment is known to change the ages of it's enemies.
Umbra Witches and Lumen Sages, Watches of the Darkness and Light also grants more dangerous abilities including the dangerous time stop techniques witch time/light speed respectively. The degree of time slow is absolutely insane. This provides a major problem for countering in that anyone who is under the speed limit for the tier can get absolutely godly speedblitzed by being slowed down to a crawl. My first counter is designed to counter that just by sensory abilities and immediate direct kill before the threat is realized. That counter being
Mewtwo from Pokemon.
In terms of Power, Mewtwo contributed 1/3rd the energy to overpower the Tree of Life which provided the spin and rotation of the Earth around the Earth requiring over 11.66 times the Energy to destroy the Earth, putting Mewtwo as roughly comparable to the Tier. Mewtwo is also fast enough to blitz legendary Pokemon who themselves are much faster then Pokemon capable of reacting to and moving comparable to beams of solar light.
Mewtwo has a vast supergenius intellect capable of creating cloning machines and out-thinking supergenius Pokemon. He also has precognitive future sensing and via trap see can see the invisible, as well as just sense minds. He has previously connected his mind to every mind in the planet, which would be extremely dangerous combined with his ability to wipe memories or brainwash others.
He can most likely attack the spiritual entities as he can clearly affect ghost type pokemon who are intangible spirits.
Mewtwo has a massive versatility advantage due to his absolutely massive powerset, though his most important ability is his vast sensory and intelligence abilities combined with his ability to immediately stop any resistance by insta-mindwiping, keeping any of his opponents from using witch time or light speed to blitz him.
Even if they do manage to detect the threat, it effectively becomes a quick-draw situation against any of them with Mewtwo having far greater effective range as well as ability to mind-read and see the future and sense the threat. Mewtwo also has cloning, even without machine assistance, as he did to Satoshi's Pokemon in Puzzle League.
Even if Mewtwo was blitzed and killed, he has his trump ability to resurrect himself as he did when he was first being created, resurrecting himself psychically after being terminated by the scientists who created him.
The only disadvantage he would really have is his weakness to dark types which would likely work against him in a battle against the Demons and Umbra Witches. For a character who absolutely would NOT be at a disadvantage against them I would suggest
Wedding Peach from Wedding Peach.
Wedding Peach's power was enough to reach all the way from the human world to Angel World even mid-way through the series. Her love wave was compared to Aphrodite's whose power created a forcefield surrounding Angel World for many years. She bears one of the Sacred 4, whose power transmuted an area of 3 planets into love energy. In terms of speed, she scales to her own love wave which could travel between planets in seconds.
Wedding Peach would be absolutely insanely broken against the demons. Wedding Peach's love waves are a holy light that neutralize dark magic, dark energies, all malice, all attacks of hatred and anger etc. Her Purification Hax would turn any demon pretty much instantly into their angelic equivalent. If she fought for Jubileus she could single-handedly win the war for her.
And it's not like they could do much to her, her love waves neutralize attacks of malice and hatred, as well as dark energies. She can reflect attacks as well as sensing dark energies and attacks incoming, meaning she would easily see them coming.
Wedding Peach can also break through dimensions with just her attacks, and every single attack of hers can hit spirits of hatred (The Demons) showing she can hit on the spiritual plane. Even against the Angels much of her powers would still be effective as the Angels of Bayonetta use attacks of hatred against the demons, which Momoko could neutralize or reflect.
However there's a character I think would do even better, turning the verse's own nature against it. That counter would be
Debonair from Magic Knight Rayearth.
The Dark Pillar, Debonair scales to the Light Pillar Emeraude whose prayers maintained the world of Cephiro, including a giant barrier protecting the entire planet from inter-planetary invasion. In terms of speed, she easily scales to those ships the other worlds used to invade Cephiro, which can travel inter-planetary distance quickly likely requiring FTL speeds. This is consistent with just a single monster summoned by Emeraude's despair being a living ray of light.
Debonair has reality-warping capacities, such that she even made Nova out of Hikaru's rejected side. As a being of Cephiro, she can use her will to shape reality to her will. Zagato with his will was able to create a spiritual entity and so it shows that Debonair should be able to affect spiritual entities. She should also be resistant to the verse's time manipulation as Season 1 Umi could act normally in a complete time stop.
Debonair would be resistance to the verse's best hax, and likely able to resist most of the rest via her Will, and she can destroy them with raw power of by reality-warping them.
However her true advantange comes from taking advantage of the verse's nature. The Human World in Bayonetta is formed of the chaos of light and dark. Debonair is the Darkness in the hearts of all people. As all of the Human World is comprised of light and dark this means Debonair could not be killed unless all of Earth was destroyed. Relatively immortal, Debonair could tear through the verse's fighters.
Stellar to Universal Scale Threat:
At this scale are the Eyes of the World, supreme weapons created by the God of Chaos Aesir, the treasures of the Lumen Sages and the Umbra Witches, as well as those who scale to them. At this level are those who can fight and defeat the sealed form of the God Tiers.
In terms of power, this tier dwarfs the prior tiers, as Alraune believed with Jeanne's power, she could rule the entire Inferno. The power of this tier is likely in the stellar level as Single Eye Jubileus can tank being punched into any planet in the solar system to violently explode the planet, including Jupiter, causing stellar energy, and a greater degree of FTL as they can traverse the solar system much faster.
This verse has many of the abilities of the prior as well as atomic scale matter destruction, more soul manipulation, attack reflection, duplication etc. as well as resistance to many common haxes.
In terms of weaknesses, similar to the first scale, the tier seems to rely on weapons and so breaking or otherwise disarming them would seem to work. It's unclear EXACTLY how strong they are without weapons, though at the very least it is weaker then their actual weapons.
In addition, the Umbra Witches Bayonetta and Jeanne are bound to their demon contractors Madama Butterfly and Madama Styx and should they not kill angels for them regularly their souls will be forfeit. This means a time manipulator that can progress them in time can relinquish their souls. This is not a very practical method however as their own time manipulation is very potent, and it doesn't work on everyone on this tier (it would not work on Father Baldr, Rodin, Loki...)
What does seem constant for this tier is a lack of range. Most of the fighters of this tier have a much lower range compared to their tier. Bayonetta for instance with her weapons only has attack range in the hundreds of meter range. Therefore it seems like a very effective strategy could be a sniper strategy attacking from far outside their attack range. My first counter would mostly rely on this, that being
Dark King from Pretty Cure.
Dark King's big advantage here is sheer range. Dark King is capable of casually destroying a star and nearby planets from an inter-stellar and inter-dimensional range. It's perfectly possible for him to just nuke a part of Purgatorio from the Dark Zone before anyone knows what's happening.
Even if they are aware of him, he is not defenseless. Parts of his power, The Dark Seeds traveled inter-planetary distance quickly, showing FTL speed. Dark King should absolutely scale, especially after re-absorbing them.
Dark King's power of darkness caused space and time to begin to break with his presence, distorting spacetime and causing massive cracks in spacetime to appear and bfr enemies. This could be a potential counter to Witch Time or Light Speed simply by distorting chaotically the time being slowed down.
And if they do get close to him, unless they stay at the hundreds of meters range, Dark King can simply absorb them into his being as he did to the Dark Seeds. Their strength is only comparable to his, so it's unlikely they would be able to resist this.
For an enemy to actually get in close with them I would suggest
Super Buu from Dragon Ball.
Super Buu casually scales well past Super Perfect Cell who famously declared himself having the power to destroy the Solar System. He is also many many many times faster then Raditz who casually dodged Piccolo's attack which was faster then his attack which reached the moon at nearly the speed of light. As such his power should be above normal for the verse while his speed would be about normal.
Super Buu at first glance seems like he would just get blitzed by time manipulation and destroyed with atomic scale or soul manipulation abilities. However it should be noted his regeneration ability, which would require either soul destruction or atomic scale attack would not be immediately known and that getting close to him would be extremely dangerous as anyone close to him he could simply absorb, and gain their abilities. Or just transmute them into candy.
Super Buu also has a range advantage similar to Dark King for a distance fight, able to destroy on a solar system scale and can teleport across dimensions casually. The only difficulty would be intangible enemies but it's fairly likely he could simply absorb someone who would be able to harm intangible opponents.
It should be noted that if Super Buu was fighting tactically, he could also split into numerous Buu and just focus on spreading and absorbing before the verse can percieve the threat, and even if one dies the others would still be able to threaten the verse.
It should also be noted that everything in the verse that can threaten him is a weapon of some sort. Buu by scaling has insane telekinesis, far more powerful then either Saiyan Saga Piccolo who lifted a pyramid with telekinesis or Freeza on Namek who lifted a mountain with telekinesis. It would hypothetically be child's play to telekinetically grab them from a distance or crush them.
However if the verse is aware of him, they could hypothetically blitz him and kill him with a soul or atomic scale attack before he can do anything. For what I think is the best counter, a counter that would just absolutely not be fair, I would suggest
Death Phantom from Sailor Moon.
A Living Black Hole, Death Phantom is the max power for what is allowed against the verse, given his ability to casually threaten stellar level entities nearby and ability to absorb the star system at will. His normal speed is only relative to the verse, but his reaction speed, capable of reacting to the light of the silver crystal which can cross the whole universe a single second, quintillions of times the speed of light, means everyone, even Witch Time and Light Speeds users would move at a snail's pace to him.
Death Phantom absorbs all matter-energy and erases existence up to planetary scale passively. That alone would be make him impossible to beat for the tier as none of them would be able to get even remotely close to him to even attack him and any attacks thrown at him would simply be absorbed.
But it gets so much worse. Death Phantom is a supergenius manipulator who can see all of spacetime and can create illustory copies of the verse as well as Avatars like Wiseman. He could manipulate the verse to simply give him the Eyes of the World.
Death Phantom has planetary+ level mindwashing and mental resistance suggesting he would simply brainwash anyone he found remotely troublesome or dangerous.
Oh and he can also affect spiritual things like King Endymion's spiritual projection as though they were made of matter.
Multiversal Scale Threat:
At the apex of the verse are the Overseers of Reality. Overseer of Heaven, Creator Jubileus. Overseer of Hell, Queen Sheba. Overseer of the Human Realm, God of Chaos Aesir, creator of the eyes of the world.
These three are implied to be relative to each other, and thus the greatest being is the paradoxical being born of Paradiso and Inferno, Omne, fusion of the power of light and darkness.
These beings at their full power are all at universal levels of power, based on Jubilieus being able to create a new reality by fusing the trinity of realms.
In terms of new abilities, Aesir adds new time manipulation abilities, as well as the ability to possess someone with just his spirit.
In terms of weaknesses, this tier is notably weak to having their power sealed, as happened when Jubilieus was resurrected but lost one of the Eyes of the World (One-Eyed Jubilieus) and or as happened when Aesir when the eyes were destroyed.
As such generally a good counter is a universal ftl being who possesses notably sealing abilities, as well as the ability to resist possession or in some way stop powerful spiritual beings. Also it would be helpful to destroy the immortal and non-physical, beings capable of resist the powers granted by various spacetime abilities the Overseers of Reality scale too.
My first counter I can say has basically exactly this and that would be
Ashura-o from RG Veda/Clamp.
Ashura-o is a sealed god of war and destruction. Scaling from his child Ashura, Ashura-o should have the power to destroy "Heaven, Earth, and Hell" from RG Veda and RG Veda's Heaven supposedly contains endless land showing he should be at least universal level. As a God of the Clamp multiverse, Ashura-o should be faster then Larg who could send 100,000,000 texts in a second, a speed feat likely requiring speeds over 5 times the speed of light. While he might be at a bit of a speed disadvantage, Ashura-O has the general advantage.
He seems to be a powerful magic-users as one of his manifestation. Fai D Flowright was a universe tier magician, yet he was confirmed as comparable or weaker to Ashura-o suggesting that Ashura-o should scale to his level of magic resistance and spacetime resistance.
However even more notable was his ability to seal power. Ashura-O was able to seal Ashura's power as a god of war and destruction, vastly limiting his level of power and his true nature. This seal should likely be effective against any of the Overseers of Reality.
However Ashura-o could be overwhelmed by fighting multiple of the Overseers of Reality if he is not given time to perform a seal. For a harder to stop counter I would suggest
The Narrator from the Stanley Parable.
The Narrator might be massively slower but they have no way of detecting him normally and if he wants to or is serious he could reality-warp and beat any member of the Overseers of Reality.
The Narrator exists outside conventional spacetime, as he has knowledge of other timelines, and he is at least a universal entity as he can load and have complete control over copies of the Minecraft or Half-Life/Portal Universe. His reality warping in general is far more versatile then the Overseers's abilities given his plot manipulation.
He could just forcefully seal them away or say "the eyes of the world spontaneously exploded" and they would have no real counter to this.
That's even ignoring his other methods of one-shot abilities such as existence erasure (which the Narrator did to all of Stanely's co-workers), inducing death and madness, or restructuring how the Overseers powers work.
Of course he IS rather arrogant, and if he was perceived, he could theoretically be stopped. There are spiritual plane attacks which should hypothetically work on him. For a character who can go toe to toe with the overseers in a more conventional way I would suggest
Ultimecia from Final Fantasy.
Ultimecia is a casually universal being, being able to compress all of spacetime into her being and can move comparable to her own magic which can cover an AU rapidly, suggesting she would be comparable in raw power and speed to the Overseers of Reality.
Ultimecia is fairly comparable in most aspects to the Overseers, just a lot more versatile, being a highly skilled magic-user with many forms of element manipulation or energy-matter manipulation.
Given her absorption, it's possible Ultimecia could absorb the Overseers into her being. Beyond that she has notable sealing abilities as she seals away the parties abilities immediatly after noticing them in her castle.
In a fight between Ultimecia and the Overseers of Reality, Ultimecia would fight them normally at first but absorb them when they got too close or seal away their abilities. She also has universe scale time manipulation, which is stronger then any time manipulation seen in Bayonetta
Beyond that Ultimecia has many more options. She can time travel more casually then Aesir via usage of the portal created by Time Compression and can mind warp well enough to simply rip thoughts out of the minds of others. She has other forms of mind hax like inducing insanity, or sending people to sleep thought how well those would work is questionable.
Ultimecia also has a possession ability like Aesir, though she can likely just do it when she wants without having to be reduced to a spirit. She also has the ability to hit intangible things so she could just hit spirit Aesir.
Ultimecia overall is basically just like the Overseers but far more versatile with a larger variety of haxes that would suggest she can react to her opponents moves a lot better then they would be able to do the inverse.
And that's how to be OP in the Bayonetta-verse
God do I Love Bayonetta! This only makes me more hyped for Bayo 3!!! I can seldom remember the last time we had 5 tiers so this was a long but oh so enjoyable able read!
ReplyDeleteI have to thank you a ton for doing this cause I knew how powerful the high tier characters were but had a lot of trouble with knowing the stats of the Angels and Demons, not keeping up with their feats or how much they could scale to Bayo so this will be very useful to see.
Great mix of counters this time around! It’s a notability hard verse to counter especially at lower tiers cause of how potent the time and dimensional hax are! So I’m super impressed at how perfect the counters were.
I really liked hearing how characters like Bakura, Pariah and Buu would be op with their abilities being SUPRISINGLY perfect in all regards also there was a lot of fun MG characters like how humorously Debonair and Peach would both be op despite being super opposite (wonder who wins in that fight)
Also Tart is cute as heck, good new character to learn about cause her feats sound really really cool!
It’s honestly overall awesome you made this. Bayonetta is such a confident powerful badass it’s hard to imagine what her weaknesses could be but you would not let that stop you! :)
A great thorough blog as usual. I always am impressed not just on the amount of research you give to each verse in particular but even in the proposed counters.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite counters would have to be The Narrator, Super Buu, Reinforce, and Mewtwo. Surprising that Stellar to Universal threat would have weaknesses that involve relying on weapons and range in this verse. Super Buu really would be a great counter against that range and I liked your scenario of stealthily absorbing most of the people before they can respond. Your comment about Reinforce being basically a artillery satellite against a middle age army sold me on that counter. I was happy to see Mewtwo because he is a character I like and it seems to be sound explanation on why he would be a good counter. And The Narrator would just be hilarious counter to this verse.
