How they Compare: The Oppositio Senshi

In the distant 30th Century, the Earth is a harmonious utopia ruled by the magical queen, Neo-Queen Serenity, who with the power of the Legendary Silver Crystal granted all humans an immortal lifespan. But not all agreed with the way the queen used the Crystal, and had greater ambitions... five youths from that time were led by the mysterious shaman Apsu to gain magical powers and to go back in time to recreate the destiny of Crystal Tokyo.

The Oppositio Senshi are antagonists for most of the video game Sailor Moon: Another Story and are a team of magical teen girls from the 30th Century who sought for one reason or another to gain the power of the Silver Crystal, forming parallels to Sailor Moon and the Guardian Senshi.

In terms of stats, Sailor Moon: Another Story treats both the Sailor Moon Manga and the 90s Anime as canonical, most likely due to the timeline warping events of the game. They are regularly treated as equals to Sailor Moon and the Guardian Senshi in their base forms as of the Third Arc. By the end of the Third Arc of the Sailor Moon Manga, Sailor Moon's power even in base was very high, much higher than her Second Arc self who destroyed Death Phantom, a living Black Hole, whose destruction is calculated usually as requiring between thousands to millions of supernova worth of energy. Late in the third arc, Sailor Moon would withstand an attack from Mistress 9 after powering up with the Silver Crystal's energy, likely reaching or exceed the base power of Pharaoh 90 who could move the entire Tau Nebula, an entire Galaxy at MFTL speeds and did the best against Snow Kaguya who created the nebula that gave birth to the Solar System and planned to keep the entire universe frozen in ice. It's possible they are far stronger even than this. In the 90s Sailor Moon anime, Sailor Moon survived with heavy damage, an attack from Pharaoh 90, a living universe that swallows whole galaxies whole, and all the Senshi technically survived an attack from Death Phantom, a vague malevolent power capable of reducing the universe to silence and nothingness, before aiding Neo-Queen Serenity in fighting him. Broadly the Oppositio Senshi should be Small Galaxy to Galaxy Level. Many of the enemies the Sailor Senshi fought in the first three arcs/seasons are present as enemies in the game but the Oppositio Senshi are considered the strongest threats.

Speedwise, the Opposito Senshi scale similarly to the speed of the Base Sailor Senshi in the first three arcs, which is consistently MFTL. Demande in explicitly the lifetime of a normal human wanted to conquer the entire universe. Fiore traveled around the universe searching for the most beautiful flower to give to Mamoru in a timespan at most of 11 years, consistent with the Makaiju wandering the universe in a similar timeframe. Queen Metaria claimed she would give Queen Beryl dark power to allow her to bring destruction to the universe in an unknown timeframe in the 90s anime. However probably the most notable feat is that the various Senshi seem to keep pace with Sailor Saturn who is not treated as any faster than the others in the game. In the 90s anime, Sailor Saturn travels to the center of the living universe Pharaoh 90 in minutes. As such the Oppositio Senshi should be anywhere from millions to quadrillions of times the speed of light with at least having reactions as fast as the later for not being blitzed by Sailor Saturn.

There are numerous abilities possessed by all of the Opposito Senshi including levitation, telekinesis, and teleportation, including teleporting with others. However, their most famous ability is to travel in time, which they usually use to eliminate threats, fighting four-dimensionally. They are stated with this power to "control destiny." This may simply be a figure of speech talking about how with the ability to change the timeline, they can cause things to happen., however the ability to control destiny is often shown doing things in the game that would be hard to explain just as time manipulation such as resurrecting past enemies of the Sailor Senshi and making them stronger. They are also noted for their teamwork, working in unison just as the Sailor Senshi do. Each of the Opposito Senshi have special abilities as well:

Nabu is named for the Babylonian God of Wisdom. She was an intellectual genius of Crystal Tokyo who wanted to see if she could figure out a way to use the Silver Crystal to do what the Sailor Senshi could not, protect the Earth from the Black Moon Clan's destruction. She was considered an evil genius with an intelligence to match Sailor Mercury's, who has an IQ over 300, was comparable to the geniuses of Mugen Academy that could create tiny simulations of the Tau Nebula, use a 90s computer to track someone through dimensions, and in the anime was implied to be smarter than Viluy who could create a nanobot swarm that could completely devour people in seconds.

Nabu's magic was primarily focused around ice and cold. She could use "Dark Water" to shoot a spray of water that could freeze enemies (a move that could work on the Senshi who in the anime survived absolute zero temperature), "Hell's Freezing" which summoned icicle shards from the sky, and Blizzard which summoned the force of an ice storm. She also knew the techniques "Dokugiri", a poisonous slash attack, and "Miryou" which allowed her to hypnotize and take control of enemies, even the Sailor Senshi who at this point in the manga could resist planetary+ levels of mental manipulation.

Nergal is named after the Babylonian God of the Underworld. She was a person in the 30th century who hated that the strongest people were those born to power and even though she was not born with it wanted to show that through her determination and ambition, she could become powerful like the Sailor Senshi, even enough to rival them. She had mystical powers that could create a ruby that paralyzed people and disguised herself as Sailor Pluto to try and deceive Chibiusa.

Nergal was a pyrokinetic who could create a flame burst with "Dark Fire" or summon a dark phoenix with "Hell's Flame Bird." She knew the technique "Kamaitachi" where she sliced at the enemies repeatedly as well as "Genkaku" which allowed her to create disorienting illusions, possibly how she disguised herself as Sailor Pluto. She also knows the hypnotizing Miryou spell.

Marduk is named for the Babylonian King of the Gods. Marduk was a normal 30th century woman who became angry at learning of the countless billions who had died for the Silver Crystal over the course of the timeline and wanted to end all future battles before they began.

Marduk controls lightning and can attack with "Dark Thunder" to shoot a dark lightning blast and "Hell's Thunder" to call dark lightning down from the sky. She can also cast Miryou.

Ishtar is named after the Babylonian God of Love and War. She is the airheaded member of the group who didn't actually have a desire to change the timeline or destiny. She joined merely because her friend Nabu joined and she wanted to be at her side.

Along with both "Dokugiri" and "Miryou", Ishtar could use the techniques "Dark Beauty" to fire a beam of light concentrated like a laser and "Hell's Shower" to shoot many light blasts. She could also cast the technique "Sonic Wave" shooting a sonic wave that put anyone who heard it to sleep.

Sin is the leader of the Oppositio Senshi, named after the Babylonian God of the Moon. After her parents were killed by the Black Moon Clan, Sin became obsessive about protecting her little brother Anshar, and joined the Oppositio Senshi to gain the power to protect him no matter what and take vengeance on the Sailor Senshi who in her mind didn't come to her parents aid when they were needed.

Her main attack was "Hell's Attack" which fired a beam of energy at her enemies. She could also fire a blast of energy of a much higher area of effect with "Evil Pulse" or petrify enemies with "Petrifiying Liquid". She also knew "Genkaku", "Kamaitchi", and "Dokugiri".

Sin had a willpower and level of purification resistance greater than the other Oppositio Senshi, when the others were purified by the power of the Silver Crystal, a power that could purify whole planets, Sin resisted in pure determination to protect Anshar, fusing with the Shaman Apsu and becoming the final boss, the Deity of Destruction.

The Shaman Apsu had grown powerful enough to battle even the power of the Silver Crystal, a universal reality-warping holy gem, and to replace the Tower of Time, a tower containing the timelines of Sailor Moon. These timelines encompass even things in other dimensions which are many, possibly countless. After Apsu and Sin fused together, they became the even stronger being known as the Deity of Destruction.

This being has all of Apsu's abilities, including time manipulation and destiny manipulation on the level of encompassing the entire tower of time, as well as the ability to see things across space and time, power amplification and granting (having granted the Oppositio Senshi all their powers). Apsu also shows madness manipulation, making Anshar go mad, reality-warping implied to be on par with the Silver Crystal after absorbing the "Rose Crystal", and an absorption ability that allowed her to replace the Tower of Time and absorb Sin into herself.

Apsu and the Deity of Destruction by scaling should have access to the powers of all the Oppositio Senshi, and attacks usually with darkness and dark energy.

In terms of weaknesses, all the Oppositio Senshi have their own psychological weaknesses. Sin's actions can be influenced by what would keep Anshar safe, Nabu was arrogant and unable to accept defeat, Nergal had an honor code and gave Mars Jadeite's Yang Stone just as she promised after Mars defeated her, Marduk is headstrong and impulsive, and Ishtar is ditzy and airheaded. Also, in general, their attacks tend to lack range for their power level.

So how well would the Oppositio Senshi do messing up the timelines of other verses if they got involved?

In Marvel Comics, the Oppositio Senshi would be fairly normal Herald Level characters. They're on the slower side, though given their usual four-dimensional combat, this might not be too much of a problem. They lack the mental stats and versatility to be a big threat to a heavy hitter, but as a team would be a threat to one of the classic Avengers like Classic Thor or Hulk, both of whom would scale to a similar power/speed range.

The bigger threat obviously is them attempting to mess up the 616 timeline, mixing in elements from other continuities or bringing back defeated enemies. That said this strategy would be weaker in Marvel as time is actually a living entity known as Eternity and even the Deity of Destruction would only be considered a minor abstract in Marvel. They might be able to mess with the history of Earth specifically, but they definitely wouldn't be the cosmic threat they are in SM: Another Story.

In DC Comics, the Oppositio Senshi would be roughly on par with Normal Kryptonians and higher level Lanterns in terms of power level scaling from Pre-Crisis Kryptonians being able to destroy half a galaxy without breaking a sweat and Normal Lanterns at their peak stopping black holes threatening their space sector. They'd be much slower but given their four dimensional combat style it wouldn't be too much of an issue.

How well they'd do depends on how slow or fast they take it. If they act slowly they could be a serious threat to many of the high tier by attacking them through timelines that they are weaker in, a strategy that Pre-Crisis DC villains have used before. That said the more open their attack pattern is the more likely the mystic heros will detect their dark magical influence and stop them. Their ability to resurrect dead enemies would likely be a massive threat at any point however, similar to the Blackest Night Event.

The Deity of Destruction would obviously be much stronger and be at an odd place where she would be weaker than the Godsphere entities but stronger than most conventional universes, existing as a Bleedspace entity.

In the Champions Universe, the Oppositio Senshi would be an immense and almost unstoppable threat. Their stats would be fairly typical for a Galactic Champions level team, that being the highest tier of champions which often fight galactic or universal threats and can often cross the universe in seconds. The problem is that time manipulation is something that is extremely rare in the Champions Universe, as seen by a supervillain known as Empress Isvatha V'han whose limited time manipulation makes her an immense threat, despite being weaker than the Oppisitio Senshi. Their destiny manipulation would be an insane threat as they could resurrect ultra-powerful bad guys that were fought one by any random champion like Doctor Destroyer and amplify his power. Even beyond that, their mind manipulation is almost unparalleled in the verse, and would let them control basically whoever they wanted just be teleporting up to them.

The verse would have extreme difficulty fighting them with the best tactic being to try and use the mystic characters to bfr them into a mystic realm they can't escape from. That said given the teamwork the five have this would be difficult, especially since it would take top tier characters to rival them in stats.

The Deity of Destruction would be equivalent to in power to one of the Space Gods, one of the strongest powers of the Multiverse and would be an immediate threat to the Multiverse if one of the others didn't stop her, though would not be totally unparalled as not only are there numerous other Space Gods, but there are beings stronger known as the Sefirot and their shadow equivalent, the Kings of Edom which are beings that transcend the concepts of power and would absolutely stomp the Deity of Destruction.

In the Dragon Ball Multiverse, the Opposito Senshi would fit best as a Late Buu Saga to Early GT Era Villains, similar to Buu destroying a galaxy overtime before getting much stronger and Goku and Pikkon possibly crossing a universal sized space fairly quickly. Given how they operate it's most likely if they were in Dragon Ball that their time shenanigans would make it so there was functionally one timeline between Manga and Toei.

The Oppositio's Senshi's powers are good but not broken by Dragon Ball Standards with Sin's petrification being like Dabura's stone spit. The most powerful weapon they'd have conventionally is their mind hax which is stronger than that seen in Dragon Ball but one they'd have to get close in range to use relatively speaking or their time manipulation depending on if they try to fight a more prolonged battle or a direct fight. Obviously their destiny manipulation powers could be broken but resurrecting past enemies may not be that big of a deal as similar to the Sailor Senshi, the Z-Senshi have grown vastly stronger than their past enemies and could likely fodderize them. Working as a team they'd definitely be an extremely powerful force, essentially 5 GT-era fighters with strong abilities working together, but not uncounterable to the verse per se.

The Deity of Destruction would be a vastly different story and depending on how you think it scales compared to Dragon Ball characters would likely be a God Tier threat.

In the Wander over Yonder universe, the Oppositio Senshi would be an immediate threat to the galaxy. Their stat level is strong enough to be at least on par with most denizens of the Yonder Galaxy scaling to Wander who can plug a galaxy destroying black hole with his finger and cross a universal sized stairway casually as part a single quest. That said, they would definitely be weaker than the stronger supervillains of the galaxy who can fodderize armies of characters as strong as Wander. Time Hax is not unknown to the verse but would be a hard strategy to fight.

Against someone like Lord Hater the strongest normal denizen of the galaxy, a fight against the Oppsitio Senshi depends mostly on mindset, as their bigger haxes should work fine on him but he can if angry enough one-shot all of them from out of range. That said they are definitely clever enough to manipulate him, especially Nabu. Against Dominator, the big bad of the setting, a similar situation would occur except only Nabu would be able to manipulate her. Wander actually has a particularly good chance of beating them as Wander has never conventionally "beaten" an enemy for them to resurrect against him and he wins by friendship, which would likely win on everyone against Sin, similar to how works on most villains Wander meets except Dominator. However Sin alone would probably lose against someone like Hater or Dominator, meaning that if they teamed up they could probably stop the Oppisitio Senshi.

The Deity of Destruction would be a different story and would likely solo the verse outside of the verse getting lucky via some hax such as the Mooplexians' mind hax.

  1. This was a Cool one imp, I had no idea these characters existed but WOW do I love their concept, As I said it feels like something out of DC Comics but with the Sailor Moon world! I liked their personalities, their whole Babylonian God theme mirroring the original Senshi's Roman ones and They had some pretty cool powers to them including some broken time hax, Mind Manipulation and Possibly Destiny BS too. They Reminded me conceptually of the Black Saints from Saint Seyia and I was suprised that they didnt get compared TO Saint Seyia for that reason But I guess the stats didn't line up :D. Against the Verses you did pick though I thought you did a pretty great job explaining how they work out. I liked how Devastating they seem like they'd be in the Champions Universe due just to how weirdly OP Time Manipulation is in that verse, and how Ironically more balanced they'd be in Dragon Ball Z despite how much less hax on average Dragon Ball seems. It was also cool that the verse they seemed to fit best in was Wander, but I guess its not TOO shocking when they essentially are a cartoon Loosely inspired by SM. It seemed cool to me the balance of how if the villains fought them, it could go either way being either a stat oneshot or a hax one shot, but that Wander stands the best chance despite NOT having a stat advantage just due to the sweet lil buddy he is!

  2. Nice blog! I haven’t heard much regarding the Sailor Moon games, so it’s cool to see it received its own JRPG. I guess this game would sorta be Sailor Moon’s equivalent to Dragonball Xenoverse with the heavy time travel elements of the plot. With the Deity of Destruction, it sounds like this game encompasses the JRPG “kill god” trope perfectly :P. But anyways, it sounds like an interesting concept of a game, with the Oppositio Senshi coming from the 30th century and based more on Babylonian gods. I think Sin is my favorite of the group with the understandable motive of protecting her little brother.

The counters were pretty good. Marvel and DC are usually pretty humbling when you try to put OP characters in them, especially considering there would still be beings considered stronger than Deity of Destruction, and it was interesting learning that time itself is a living entity in Marvel and for that reason the Deity would be weaker. I don’t know a lot about Champions, but it was a good choice on showing how effective the team would be with their time powers, destiny manipulation, and overall teamwork. Dragonball of course is a nice thematic choice where the team isn’t too overbearing on the local characters, at least before the Deity of Destruction comes into the picture. Wander Over Yonder was my favorite comparison, especially with the scenario of the verse teaming up against the team and Wander winning over most of the Senshi through friendship haha.
