Some girls are warm, approachable, and down to earth. And some are....not that. Standing most aloof are the elegant princess types, and this is only made more exaggerated when they are sword wielding rich girl heroines with elemental powers.
Umi Ryuuzaki, the Magic Knight of Water
Weiss Schnee, Huntress-in-Training and Heir to the Schnee Dust Company
I am Imperator100 and this is a Death Prediction
Umi:
Umi Ryuuzaki lived a good life, the only daughter of two loving very wealthy parents, attending an elite private school, possessing a model-like beauty, she truly lived the life of a princess. That is until one day when on a school field trip she saw a strange light and was transported along with two other girls to the other world of Cephiro, and told the three of them would have to become Magic Knights to save Cephiro.
Umi was initially resistant to the idea, but her burgeoning friendship with the other two girls Hikaru Shidou and Fuu Hououji as well as seeing the suffering of the people of Cephiro convinced herself to become the Magic Knight Cephiro needed. Over the course of two adventures in Cephiro Umi turned from a snooty rich girl to a compassionate hero.
Will:
Will is the strength of the heart, and the strength of one's feelings. Cephiro was a world designed so that will controls all things. This allows for the amplification of the human to superhuman levels of ability and even allows for the bending of reality. It was via the will that Dark Lord Zagato was able to create his own Rune God or that the High Mage Clef of Cephiro was able to maintain part of the world against the assault of the inter-dimensional invaders.
Will can rise drastically within a single fight, as one's drive to win spikes as happened with Hikaru against Nova going from being weaker to far stronger, or as happened in the fight against Zagato where Zagato initially was powerful enough to overpower all 3 Magic Knights at once, the strength of their feelings for each other was enough to give them enough power to overpower and destroy him.
While the Magic Knights are not native mages of Cephiro, and so they do not how to shape their will to create myriad magical effects, their will is strong enough to boost their physical stats and by the end of the series is have grown to be the greatest wills in the worlds. By the end of the series, they have such will that they can use their abilities while outside Cephiro, even creating inter-dimensional portals to Cephiro at will, being able to reforge their weapons from sheer will, or creating their ultimate spells out of will as Umi and Fuu did. But their greatest feat of willpower comes from the end of the manga. Mokona the Creator God, creator of the universes, tried to stop Hikaru from returning to Cephiro, erasing her and Rayearth from the sheer power, but Hikaru was able to resist it for a time and fight back against it until Umi and Fuu, their will risen to godly levels by their friendship with Hikaru, literally reached across dimensions and pulled Hikaru back into Cephiro against the power of Mokona. The ending of the anime also suggests they can also see across dimensions. The Magic Knights use the sheer power of their wills to power their superhuman stats and magic.
Physical Strength/Durability:
Probably most obviously, the power of Will to amplify strength and durability. Caldina, who was a mere illusionist and not really any kind of physical threat, was able to detach a boulder sized section of stone from a hill with just a tap of her feet and Umi was so strong as to destroy the boulder with the tip of her blade creating a shockwave capable of sending Caldina up the hill flying off the hill. And that's only the start of it.
Early in the Magic Knights' adventure, before they even attained Escudo weapons, Hikaru was able to, with a single slach completely destroy a monster 3 times her size with a single slash of her sword. As Hikaru is 1.35 meters, that monster would have had to be at least 4.35 meters, making it 1.63 meters taller then Robert Wadlow, the tallest known human standing at 2.72 meters. The energy needed to vaporize a normal human is about 3 gigajoules (0.72 tons of tnt) so this would have to be in excess of that, possibly nearing a ton of tnt. And this was before the Magic Knights got any upgrades or their escudo weaponry. Even more impressive, halfway through season 1 the monster Deucy was able to turn a good portion of the landscape to ice and cause a local snowfall and heavy cold just by transforming yet mid-season 1 Umi was capable of defeating Alcyone (stronger then Beginning of Series Hikaru and capable of surviving her magic attacks) and killing amped Deucy with a sword swing.
By the end of the first season the Magic Knights were comparable to Lafarga, the Swordsman, in combat and outright superior to him by the end of the second season as they were able to destroy Debonair's monsters that Lafarga struggled more against. Lafarga was capable of destroying a portion of the ground with just the air pressure of his sword swing. The sheer vaporization energy of the sword swing based on the manga area of the sword swing was calced at conservatively 9.8 tons of tnt worth. And while season 1 Umi and Fuu are not as durable as Hikaru, able to take multiple direct hits from Lafarga, they were able to survive the air pressure of one of his attacks from closer range then the previously mentioned attack. The Magic Knights were also able to survive a portion of the energy that Emeraude used to cause her castle to violently explode.
Mobility:
Umi is the DPS of the Magic Knights, prone to overpowering enemies and is the speediest of them, capable when angry of moving so fast it looks like she's teleporting
Even more impressive then her speed is her reaction time. The Magic Knights were able to react to the movements of the Lightning Element Inouva and Hikaru, who Umi should easily scale to in reaction time, was able to catch one of his lightning blasts with her sword and send it back at him. Hikaru was also able to see the approach of a monster made of light and cut it in half with her sword. The Magic Knights are also capable of piloting and fighting the Rune Gods in close quarters, Rune Gods capable of easily traversing Cephiro and fighting FTL spacecrafts from other worlds, demonstrating FTL reflexes.
Magic:
Umi's magic specialty is water magic, though she never gained the ability to turn boys into toads like she wanted. Though what she got is arguably as impressive. The Magic Knights can use the power of their magic to boost their attack power and range. A Magic blast from Umi was able to cover most of a City Block Sized Platform. This is consistent with Fuu creating a magical effect covering a similar area much earlier in season 1 against Caldina. Umi harnesses her magical power through 3 spells.
The first of these is Water Dragon (Mizu no Ryo). This conjures a dragon made of water that can attack alongside Umi. The Water Dragon is the weakest of the spells but is the most versatile of them. It can be used for offense or defense and can bring rain enough to put out a forest fire. In terms of sheer power the Water Dragon was able to overpower the Flame Arrow of Nova, which at this point of the story was stronger then Hikaru's Flame Arrow, meaning it should stronger then the strength of Lafarga as Hikaru matched him without even using magic.
The second of these is Sapphire Whirlwind (Aoi Tatsumaki), a spell summoning a blue tornado made of water. The Sapphire Whirlwind was able to briefly incapacitate and harm Two Djinn Spirits who are capable of easily overpowering and EATING the Water Dragon. The Sapphire Whirlwind can also be used to transport people to different places such as when Umi used it to stop the fall of a falling opponent and bring her back to the platform out of mercy.
Umi's strongest spell is Icicle Blades (Koori no Yaiba) which bombards the enemies with icicle blades capable of destroying a monster Umi's prior spells struggles to harm.
Also it's not really explained but Umi can breathe underwater.
Equipment:
Umi's weapons and armor are made of Escudo. Escudo is mineral unlike any on Earth. It has no set toughness, it is an evolving weapon. An evolving weapon is a weapon whose power and toughness vary and grow based on it's user's strength and will. Her weapon is stored inside the jewel in her glove to be summoned at her leisure. She can also change her armor state at will, from civilian clothes to fully armored.
Umi's sword has a few peculiar qualities. As an Escudo Sword it is capable of cutting a beam of light as Hikaru's did and if anyone other then Umi tries to wield it, it will turn to water.
Umi can also comically pull a hammer out of nowhere for the purposes of chasing down Mokona.
Intelligence:
Umi is fairly intelligent, attending an elite school for wealthy girls. More impressive then that is Umi's skill with a blade. Umi was an experienced fencer before their Magic Knights' adventure in Cephiro even started. While in Cephiro, Umi was able to defeat the warrior princess Tarta twice over in a duel and was even able to defeat her older sister Tatra who supposedly no one in the world of Chizeta could beat. And while Chizeta is a small world, it has a population comparable to the other worlds, hence it's problems with crowding and overpopulation in the first place.
Weaknesses:
Umi is the DPS of the Magic Knights and without the tank Hikaru or the support Fuu, is noted as seriously lacking defense by the analysis of the GTO in episode 38. It was said in season 1 that Hikaru's Flame Arrow alone could be lethal if it hit Umi. Umi can compensate this somewhat with her armor but a few hits to her skin from someone comparable to her would likely kill her.
Also Umi is prone to overreacting emotionally to a situation comically. Her being led by her emotions has led to her getting in trouble a few times, such as in episode 12 when she got attacked by a bunch of illusions which she knew were illusions and yet immediately later when she sees something unbelievably good she accepted it without a second thought.

Personality:
Umi's princess attitude and strong emotional reactions can make her hard to approach but she feels great compassion within. It was this compassion that allowed to see that Ascot the summoner didn't really want to kill them and win them to her side.
Umi's overtly harsh tone comes from her princess-like upbringing and her following her instincts, though over the course of Magic Knight Rayearth she comes to be more mature, willing to sacrifice for herself, and prone to taking responsibility such as when Hikaru suffered in silently without telling her friends and Umi did not blame Hikaru for scaring her, but instead took the blame herself for not being reliable and approachable enough for her friend to speak of worries with.

Weiss:
In the world of Remnant, fearsome creatures known as Grimm born of humanity's sorrows threaten the population. But humanity has learned to fight the Grimm particularly the Huntsmen and Huntresses. Using the power of their souls and the mysterious substance "Dust" they can strike back against the Grimm. One of the largest producers of dust in Remnant is the affluent "Schnee Dust Company". Prominent among the owning Schnee family is the Aloof "princess" of the Schnee Family, Weiss Schnee.
Weiss lived a rich life but also a life of stifling responsibilities. Not liking this, Weiss developed a fiercly independent streak and left home to become a huntress in training at the fabled Beacon Academy, where she met her teammates and later friends Ruby Rose, Yang Xiao Long, and Blake Belladona. Her friendship with these girls helped thaw the Ice Princesses's aloofness and begun her journey to save Remnant from the Grimm and the forces behind them.

Aura:
All Huntsmen and Huntresses must learn to harness the power of Aura to accomplish the superhuman feats their job requires. Aura is a manifestation of the soul, and of the lifeforce that runs through all living things in Remnant, greater then any weapon. By manipulating the Aura and amplifying it Huntsmen and Huntresses can perform superhuman feats.
It's primary purpose is to coat the user in a personal protective forcefield to protect them against lethal blows. It is also noted to be able to protect the user from extreme weather and temperatures. It can also heal small wounds automatically.
Aura also allows for the projection of force outwards, either through fists or through items acting as conduits. It is also noted to give minor extra-sensory perception, allowing the user to know when they are being watched.
Physical Strength/Durability:
Weiss' aura is quite powerful and she can amplify her strength and durability with it to massively superhuman levels. Even very early on a casual Weiss using a swordfish as an improvised sword was able to knock away Nora Valkyrie with enough force as to create a shockwave, ie to break the sound barrier. In the first 3 volumes Nora is 17 years old, and the average mass of a 17 year old girl (assuming Remnant has the same gravity as Earth) is 54.4 kilograms. The Kinetic energy of that moving at the speed of sound (340.29 meters per second) is nearly 3.15 megajoules, and that's not even getting into how she had to overcome the anchoring force of Nora's aura or the fact that this was an improvised weapon by a casual Weiss. She should be likely comparable to her teammate Ruby Rose who even early pre-time skip was able to drag a giant Nevermore up the side of a cliff disfacing much of the cliff face, a feat calculated at being over 5 gigajoules or 1.21 tons of tnt. Post Timeskip team RWBY is much stronger, Ruby herself being capable of one-shotting the same species of Nevermore.

Post Timeskip team RWBY is much stronger, Ruby herself being capable of one-shotting the same species of Nevermore.
Weiss is also able to melee an Armas Gigas, blocking it's strikes and knocking it's arms away or it's body back with her strikes. These have strength comparable to Atlesian mech suits capable of easily smashing through numerous stone pillars. Weiss has also pre time-skip taken a strike from an even stronget Atlesian Paladin who was even stronger then Yatuhashi who created a shockwave across an entire arena a few dozen meters long.
Mobility:
Despite fighting in a "combat skirt" Weiss is quite mobile on the battlefield.
She can move fast enough to appear as a blur to Yang and save her teammate Ruby. Yang was fast enough herself to travel across a bridge and up a pillar in the time it took rubble to fully fall calced at just over Mach 6. Weiss herself was able to easily move multiple times faster then Flynt's soundwaves. These travel rather obviously at the speed of sound. And all of this was PRE-timeskip.
Post-timeskip Weiss is easily comparable to Sun Wukong who was able to move comparable to the lightning breath of a Sea Feilong. This was conservatively calced at mach 11.7. She was also able to move comparable to the speed or Ruby's sniper shot and deflect two bullets from Vernal. Given several higher feats within the series she's potentially MHS in terms of speed.
Semblance:
The Semblance is a unique manifestation of the Aura giving the user an additional specific ability. The Schnee family has the Semblance of summoning glyphs, magical circles with a variety of effects. Semblance can boost mobility by allowing the creation of platforms and to run up walls. They can also be used to nullify force so that they can be used as restraints for an Armas Gigas or used to block attacks including the attacks from Vernal who's much stronger then Weiss normally. This is strong enough to slow the descent of a cargo ship. Related to this Weiss can push, pull or cause things to hover remotely with her glyphs. Even in Season 5, Weiss was capable of launching Ruby with enough force as to create a shockwave that shattered the boulders behind them. More recently in volume 5 Weiss was capable of using the glyphs platforms function and their push and hover function in combination to evade the attacks of Vernal and to push her back and knock her upwards.
Semblance can also be used to fire energy projectiles.
The Glyphs have another abilities, one Weiss is slightly less talented in, the ability to summon. Weiss can use her glyphs to summon any foe she has previous beaten. The most relevant of these is the Armas Gigas she defeated in her trailer and the Queen Lancer she defeated in volume 5. The Queen Lancer is a flying Insect Grimm capable of surviving multiple explosions at close range, the total energy released equaling ~18.83 tons of TNT. Weiss can teleport them as well as resize them or only summon individual limbs. It is important to note that summoning and controlling, especially of a larger entities, can take a few seconds and concentration.
Equipment:
Weiss primarily wields Myrtenaster, a rapier with 6 cartridges for different types of dust to be used in combat.
The Primary one Weiss uses, especially with her glyphs is ice dust. This creates a large amount of ice used to create constructs or to freeze enemies. This was used to create a giant shield of ice that protected team RWBY from an explosion that destroyed much of a tunnel. In the manga Weiss was able to use her ice dust to freeze two Atlesian Knights in place, and in the light novel RWBY: The Session, Weiss was able to freeze a robotic elephant.
Weiss also carries fire dust, capable of shooting fireballs capable of taking out lancers, wind dust able to create wind able to equal Flynt's soundwave, lightning dust able to produce lightning, gravity dust and hard-light dust capable of creating a barrier to protect her against a Lancer. Though she doesn't use these nearly as often likely due to a proclivity with ice dust. She can also combine her lightning dust with her glyph to rapidly increase the speed of an individual. This time dilation amp was able to speed up her teammate Blake to a calced speed of Mach 21 and it's likely she could reach similar speeds if she was able to use it on herself, especially as her base speed is faster then Pre-Timeskip Blake.
Intelligence:
Weiss is highly intelligent, having been raised with a strict high-class formal education, leading to her being top of her class at Beacon Academy. She has a wide variety of knowledge on various subjects related to being a Huntress. This translates directly into her skill in combat, as she was in top ranking of the sparring class during the Vytal Festival.
Weaknesses:
Weiss can be rather stubborn and inflexible, both as a person and in combat due to her highly formal combat circumstances. This can be seen in both her trailer fight against the Armas Gigas and her fight against the White Fang Lieutenant on the train. In both cases she expertly avoided the attacks of their actual weapons before being tagged by an unexpected attack from a hand or foot, things that are not formal weapons. Though she has worked to minimize this flaw of hers.
In addition her aura can be depleted over the course of a battle and if it is broken then it will leave her totally helpless. Also the dust she has on her at any time is finite, meaning she will likely be slightly more reluctant to use all of it if she can help it.
Personality:
While many might assume Weiss has had a carefree life, her familial troubles led to her aloof and defensive personality. Being determined to redeem her family name from the dishonorable actions of her father made her cold, single-minded and focused.
However at Beacon she met girls with wildly different experiences and lives who helped thaw her ice princess exterior. While she is determined and perfectionist, she is working to become less overtly-critical and more open with others.
Alright the combatants are set. It's time....FOR A DEATH PREDICTION!
Umi watched in boredom as Clef spoke amicably to the mustached man dressed in a formal white suit. Clef had spoken to the de facto leaders of the nations of Remnant for several hours and it was clearly draining his energy but it was vital to unite them in the fact of the planetary threats they were going through at the moment and to establish peaceful relations.
"Yes Mister....Schnee was it? We understand that you have dangerous enemies that might want to get at the Lady Schnee. Don't worry, Umi here" Clef said gesturing to Umi "is one of the Mystic Knights and the finest warriors we are proud to have at our side. She will absolutely stop any potential foe." Umi beamed at the praise and quickly left to go help guard.
Below the party area, a single dim light shone dimly over an old hallway, on one side a single door leading to the room of Weiss' objective and the other a single staircase descending downwards outwards towards the escape entrance she had climbed in and another going upwards to a door with a bright light streaming in the cracks, most likely the entrance to the party that people were attending. Two small Atlesian Mechs stomped around rhymically keeping watch for intruders.
A sudden brief silvery dash from the escape entrance and a few metalic clangs of rapier against Atlesian steel and one of the mechs found it's central core dislodged and the machine crumpled. The other machine quickly turned to fire at the intruder only to find it's two arms rapidly cleaved off and with a kick the machine fell over useless. Weiss hurried, knowing she didn't have much time before someone came to check here, and that her father was keeping her mother somewhere here, possibly against her will. Weiss needed to speak with her.
Umi started climbing down the stairs but in the scant light to her shock the two mechs were broken and a strange white-haired girl holding a rapier was sneaking along the corridor headed for the door on the other side. "She must be one of Schnee-san's enemies" Umi thought to herself. "I can't let her disrupt the negotiations." Umi quietly leapt down calling her armor to her body and her blade to her hand.
Weiss's aura shimmered around her, and she felt a strange force acting on her, as though she was being watched. Weiss turned to behold the shocked expression of a blue-haired girl, clearly armed for battle. "Better take her down quickly" Weiss thought and drew her weapon.
The two girls stood on opposite sides of the barely adored hall, the relatively lack of light making their features seem more imposing and intimidating to each other.
Fight!
A minor eternity passed in the moment that the two swordswomen looked at each other, first towards the blades then to the ever truthful ever revealing eyes showing their direction.
Umi performed a quick sword flair signaling her challenge before taking a middle guard, raising the sword to head height aimed towards Weiss. A silvery dart foward as Weiss lunged Umi's position going for high inside so she could readjust her blade for defense as needed against Umi's upraised blade.
A sharp clank rang through the air. Umi held her sword down just catching Weiss' sword and knocking it aside. "A simple lunge brought her that far?" Umi thought in surprise. "She's fast!" Umi threw her side in a lunge against Weiss.
Weiss suddenly found her thrown as a massive wave of force struck her aura, though she directed the blunt of it away from her body using her blade. Umi pressed her might against the blade, knocking Weiss back, a shockwave rocking the room and sending the light above spiraling, cascading the room into a murky twilight.
"She's strong!" Thought Weiss.
The two approached each other more cautiously, keeping their guards up, more alert against their opponent's abilities.
Weiss launched an exploratory flurry of blows to the side. Umi moved her place to block in a quick pattern to block them, the force of their strength cracking the ground beneath them. Umi continued her advance, launching a few thrusts.
Weiss grimaced, she was being backed into a corner. Weiss leapt summoning a glyph in midair to proper her as she twirled in mid air launching her sword down onto Umi's position. Umi was very taken off guard by this and only just brought her sword up in time, though catching at an awkward angle knocking it out of her hand.
Weiss landed expertly and caught Umi's blade...only for it to turn to water in her hand! It was now her turn to be surprised as the sword leaked out of her hand only to reform into a sword on the ground. Umi took advantage of Weiss's surprise and gave her a quick strike with her fist, knocking Weiss to the other side of the corridor. Thinking quickly, Weiss called a glyph to nullify the force of the strike slowing her and allowing her to roll and land on her feet, sword faced outwards ready for the assault.
She was not, however, ready for what happened.
Umi raised her hand and yelled out "Water Dragon!" and from her hand came a snarling dragon made of water.
Umi somewhat enjoyed the shock on her opponent's face and quickly grabbed her sword but as she looked again, she saw her opponent call a great spinning wheel behind her and from it emerged a strange shining knight entity.
The Armas Gigas lunged at the Water Dragon who wrapped it's body to bite at it's sides. But suddenly the Armas Gigas disappeared only to reappear behind Umi.
The water dragon's turning to attack the Armas Gigas alerted Umi of the imminent threat and she ducked out of the way the sword swing turning and casting her Icicle Blades which tore through the construct's torso, causing it to evaporate.
At the same time the Dragon turned again to attack the nearest threat Weiss however Weiss quickly used some ice dust channeled through her sword to turn the dragon into an elaborate ice sculpture before launching through it with one burst, her sword outreached sending jagged shards of ice everywhere, Umi hearing the shattering and turning, catching Weiss blade off with her gauntlet. Umi attempted to use the momentum in an overhanded blade strike but Weiss nimbly dodged by simply moving with the momentum away from the strike.
The two swordswomen glared at each other, neither could risk taking the time at this range for a complex maneuver, either could take even a moment to run the other one through.
Umi attempted a feint, but Weiss saw through it and used Umi's own momentum to send her crashing through the wall onto the outdoor balcony. In the push Umi lost her grip on her sword which clattered next to her. Before she knew what was happening Weiss charged her position.
Panicking Umi yelled "AHHHHH" and pulled out a hammer from seemingly nowhere and flailing it upwards in Weiss's direction. Weiss was actually not hit by the hammer but panicked Umi's strength was great enough to send her flying upwards regardless.
Umi embarrassed, grabbed her sword and waited for Weiss to plummet it downwards. "That's strange, she should be down by now...Wait!" she thought she saw the descent.
Weiss thought to herself in mid-air "What was that?!" at the bizarre display she had just seen before quickly anchoring herself to the side of the building using her glyphs. Thinking of a new plan she rushed downwards and before Umi could do anything to stop her struck the balcony sending it careening down into the water below. Umi climbed out of the water onto one of the remaining pieces of ledges.
Weiss shot a quick lightning blast at the platform causing Umi to dodge and dip comically on the small makeshift raft.
"Will you stop that?!" Umi said angrily.
"We're.... enemies." Weiss said in a cold fashion, inwardly confused at the outbursts. Was she not taking this seriously?
Weiss placed the tip of her blade in the water and created a large platform of ice reaching to the Umi's platform and stepped on it. Umi tentatively stepped on it before slipping. The unexpected sight caused Weiss to place her hand to her mouth to keep from laughing.
"Grrrrr don't laugh at me!" Umi said angrily before leaping from her crouched position, sword aimed at Weiss.
Weiss recovered quickly and dodged out of the way, keeping balance well on the ice.
"She's not tiring at all..." Weiss thought "if anything she seems stronger then when the fight started, I should finish this fast" saying so Weiss began using a glyph. Seeing the opportunity Umi took the opportunity to go into a lunge but Weiss was just able to combine her lightning dust with her glyph to accelerate her.
Weiss blurred and zipped around the platform attacking Umi from all different angles, though to her surprise though Umi after regaining her composure was able to deflect each blow expertly knocking them away.
"Grrrrrr Sapphire Whirlwind!" Umi yelled and a small cyclone of water appeared on the ice platform tipping it and sending wind currents across the platform. The unexpected change caused the faster then normal Weiss to lose her balance and start tumbling and Umi slashed with her blade down at the opponent. Weiss attempted a retaliatory strike but it deflected off Umi's gauntlet and Umi's own strike sent Weiss flying into the side of the building with a mighty crashing noise.
Weiss came out, holding her side from pain and Umi sent another Sapphire Whirlwind at Weiss position knocking her far up into the air, too far from the building.
Umi readied herself to leave, thinking the fight finished before hearing a strange noise. She looked up and Weiss came down again this time riding a giant flying insect construct.
Weiss maneuvered the Queen Lancer near the building and commanded it to shoot it's stinger at Umi however she thought quickly and reached out her will calling forth a dimensional doorway, the Lancer construct being sucked into another dimension.
Weiss began falling but quickly used her gravity dust to run along the side of the building wall. The Queen Lancer teleported back to her and she leapt back onto it.
Weiss knew she had no attack that could get through the portal so she decided to go around it. Umi suddenly found a few glyphs angle around the portal launching her into the air. The Lancer again shot it's stinger at it the now airborne Umi.
"Sapphire Whirlwind" Umi called out with a movement of her hands and a cyclone appeared sidefrom Umi holding her in place and knocking away the Lancer's stinger before Umi leapt up and slammed into Weiss knocking the two of them into the side of the building, Umi tearing Weiss through the building's stonework.
Weiss felt her aura rapidly weaken and fired a blast of wind dust, flinging Umi into her own portal before Weiss landed into the water.
"Was that it?" She thought to herself before quickly making an ice raft and climbing on it.
"NO!" she thought "I can feel someone watching me."
Behind her another portal opened up and Umi lunged from behind but Weiss summersaulted and with a quick thrust hit the small exposed area of Umi's arm forcing her to drop her sword.
"Ahhhh!" Umi yelled in pain. The Lancer above shot downwards it's tail extended to impale Umi as Weiss also charged at her. Umi in a panic kicked upwards launching Weiss upwards. She was almost impaled upon her own summon's stinger but she quickly de-summoned it but as she turned Umi was gone.
From behind her another portal came and Umi zipped out of it with an upward lunge but Weiss quickly blocked downwards. Umi however, to Weiss' surprise did not slow, having put herself in a full lunge, knocking the two together with a powerful shockwave, knocking the two into the water. Weiss felt her aura protecting her crumble and knew she had to finish this now or it would be all over.
Umi swam towards her position and Weiss attempted a desperate maneuver. The power of dust was more raw in it's concentrated form. Weiss summoned all her discipline, all her concentration and took her ice dust canister out, preparing to use it's raw power.
Umi felt the water around her suddenly grow much harder and flash freeze over, tiny bits digging into her. The whole surrounding area of water had frozen, and Umi could barely move.
Weiss breathed a sigh of relief only for it to be cut short when she saw a portal open up near her opponent's position. Weiss climbed out out of the frozen water, only to find another portal open up in front of her. Weiss attempted a lunge but moved halfway into the portal. She saw a strange otherwordly land before her, but her enemy wasn't there.
A feint!
Weiss turned around expectancy only to see Umi's blade come down. It was really only a somewhat light touch but without her aura, the slash slice into Weiss' defenseless form and her heart stopped from the shock of the force, the immediate blood loss and the sudden cling of the freezing cold.
Umi was sad about the battle's outcome but put her sword away and went to go see Clef immediately.
K.O.
Ok so I should note right of the bat, that this outcome could change if Weiss gets upgraded, this is only relevant as of volume 6.
While Weiss was a lot more versatile then Umi, Umi's sheer power gap and a few specific abilities made this an extremely uphill battle for Weiss.
Weiss is a lot stronger then Volume 1 Ruby's feat of 1.21 tons feat, that said I saw nothing that it seems she rather then her summons would scale too. She is far more casual though in that regard, and is likely large building (2 tons) scaling to Ruby being able to one-shot Nevermores post-timeskip. In comparison Weiss was at least comparable to Lafarga who created a 9.8 ton feat from a distance just using the air pressure of his sword swings. It's likely that even at a distance the sheer force of Umi's sword strikes would be able to harm Weiss, and an outright strike from Umi to Weiss would be immensely dangerous to Weiss, if not immediately lethal. In contrast, Umi was able to survive a single strike from Lafarga from a closer distance, suggesting she is at least at that 9.8 ton range, meaning Weiss' strikes on Umi would, while they would damage her, not be able to do damage nearly as quickly.
But that in itself would not show how Umi has a sheer power advantage because there's one more notable advantage Umi has in that regard...armor. Weiss wears absolutely no armor, like most people in RWBY, most likely because they rely on their auras to protect them. Meanwhile Umi wears almost full plate made of Escudo, and it's not likely Weiss is going to be getting through Escudo when it's literally powered by Umi's godly levels of willpower and even at a weaker state required power on the levels of at least a Maiden to get through. And that relates to their weapon styles and weapons.
The development of the rapier came around the time that armor was starting to become outdated due to the invention of guns that got through armor. The rapier was primarily a civilian weapon developed to give a maximum of reach. This is why Rapier Users, Umi and Weiss included, take stances with one side of their body forward and one knee bent, it gives maximum reach as well as minimizing the area of the body that can be struck. Because rapier usage if a very stamina intensive form of combat, it was designed with fairly short battles, reflecting the high offense low defense strategies of both Umi and Weiss. The Rapier, while it has reach on a longsword, has a noted disadvantage because it's loses cutting and slashing capacity in exchange for thrusting capacity. This meant on battlefields where some armor was still used, the civilian rapier was not used as much because when you have a very small surface area to hit with it (a thrusting weapon) and your opponent is using armor to minimize where you can hit, then it becomes very difficult to get a hit. This is why the War Rapier was developed, which loses some of the thrusting capacity to get back a little bit of slashing and cutting capacity. If you look at Weiss' weapon and Umi's weapon, it's clear they are a civilian rapier and a war rapier respectively. This is really important because it means in melee Weiss would have a monstrous time trying to hit a weak point in Umi's armor while Umi's weapon can break through Weiss' aura fairly easily.
And it's not like Weiss can blitz Umi. Even with her lightning dust + glyph combo, she can't accelerate herself so fast that Umi who has fast enough reactions to correctly pilot the FTL Rune God Selece at close range and scales to Hikaru who cut an actual monster made of light can't react to her and block her strikes.
Weiss does have a much higher diversity of ranged attacks and with her far greater speed movement speed she could very effectively stay at distance, but Umi has the perfect shield, namely creating a portal in front of her and just letting all of Weiss' attacks get sucked up by that. Weiss would have to stay highly mobile and get through Umi's defenses just to get a hit in on her.
Similarly Weiss has more summons then Umi but not neccesarily "better" ones. While the Queen Lancer survived a cumulative explosion of ~18.8 tons of tnt, this was spread out over the whole of her body. Umi's blade and her water dragon attack both scale to or above 9.8 tons meaning they would only need to be able to concentrate energy on an area half as big as the area to exceed the amount of force it was shown to withstand, and they can concentrate much more then that.
Now if Weiss got in a restraining glyph on Umi, I think that would be pretty effective, of if she froze her, but Weiss could potentially get out of that by portaling.
Also while Weiss comes from a more dangerous world with more fighting then Umi does that doesn't necesarily mean Weiss is more skilled. Weiss has lived an aristocratic life probably not having to fight many grim herself. Both have taken extensive training in dueling and both have a number of combat experiences. That said Umi was able to defeat a swordswoman who no one could defeat on her entire planet. And while that doesn't necessarily mean Umi is vastly more skilled, as she did sort of overpower her at the end via her magic, Umi was dueling her fairly well even until then.
Finally rapier combat strategy is as managed a heavily stamina intensive style and this is doubled by the fact paced offense-based strategies both Umi and Weiss emply. However while Weiss would weaken over the course of the battle up to the point of her Aura breaking, Umi would not get any weaker due to her willpower, and in fact there have been numerous occasions of MKR characters growing stronger over the course of a battle due to their drive to win increasing.
Overall Umi was just stronger at close range and in the long game, and could protect against the short game and the long-range game.
The winner is....Umi Ryuuzaki
Next Time:
Thanks to my friend Thor for making the trailer and score for this fight as well as for coming up with the fight idea and also thanks to reddit user MoSBanapple who made a lot of the weiss gifs I used in their respect thread.
Elogantness intensifies. Im have waited a long time for this, i think it was like well over a year ago when i thought of this fight and i was so proud of it, little did i know you could make it THIS great. like really, I'm so proud of you imp chan this is just leagues above what I had envisioned for the fight and my Word did you incorporate so much into the fight itself that i never would have thought of, Umi thinking with portals, Weiss using Raw Dust, Specific Weapon and armor makes, and even Umi's hammer which i never considered anything more than a sight gag. I think you did a really great job with their personalities, like the only ooc thing that happened was Umi killing weiss, which is unavoidable so thats extremely impressive. Opening was amazing too cause it got me thinking about the mechanics of what if remnant was in MKR, could they stop salem and the verses problems? cause shed basically just be a problem like Chezetas overpopulation, or Autozams pollution. I just wanted to explore more. The fight was really atmospheric, like some kinda of fancy opera on ice. and my god the ending, that was just unfair, there is only So much edge on my seat i can sit on with how it looked like both of them were going to win so many times it was so desperate and tense but i loved it. what i loved most of all is i got to see two series i really love, two characters i really love, in one of the closest fights i have ever though of, and it was amazing! just the perfect present after the intense 8 day work week i had, love ya, love this, and I somehow called it :P
ReplyDeleteReally entertaining and informative blog. It was fun learning about Umi and her series, and your analysis of Weiss’s abilities was really thorough. The way their powers interacted during the fight made it really engaging with summons, portals, power increases, etc.. You really made good use of Umi’s will abilities to up the suspense in the fight and of course the final blow where Umi used a portal to trick Weiss in order to strike her, I thought was a cool way to end it.
ReplyDeleteThe reasoning seems pretty solid, and the factoid about the civilian rapier vs the war rapier was pretty interesting. Its always kind of nice when two characters are so closely matched up that you have to take stuff like their choice in weapons into account to determine the winner.
I have a soft spot for these types of characters, who start out from privileged backgrounds but grow to be better people from interacting with others outside their social class. So it was fun seeing two such characters pit against each other in a battle
So overall a very well done write up. I look forward to learning about the Yu Yu Hakusho character :)
