Random Issue Battle 3

Time for another installment of random issue battle. This is going to be taking two characters and determing who would win with the caveat that both only get the feats from a single random issue/episode/level etc. of their series. Scaling is allowed but scaling towards feats that happened in that issue/episode/level.

Using the random battle picker to pick a random death prediction I have done I got Yogsquest 1 Battle Royale....this is going to be an interesting one. This is the first time I'm doing a matchup between characters from the same verse. Given that there's 4 of them and only 10 episodes it's downright likely that two will be getting feats from the same episode meaning you could potentially just scale between them. Going into I have to imagine Pretty Margaret is gonna win. She has either physical feat or a magic feat in almost every episode. Honey also has physical feats but he also has intelligence anti-feats. I could maybe see Duncan winning if the episode has him demonstrate he has those scrolls; one of fear, and one of cone of cold. The Rat King winning would be a tricky one to imagine as there's no particular ep he has great stand alone feats. As always if an ep has NO feats whatsoever, I can just pick a new one.

Starting with Honeydew, I use a number randomizer to get a random ep and I get episode 6. Episode 6 is just after the Mimic fight so there might be something from Honeydew's fight with his clone.

  • It's mentioned off hand that Honeydew has a hammer (2:02)
  • Honeydew is able to shove his companions forward in case there are any traps. (9:30) Honeydew's companions manage to push a signifigantly sized stone tomb (4:40) suggesting he scales.
  • Honeydew runs forward and pulls a lever before anyone has a chance to react (10:20)
  • Simon and his clone hit each other in the head with no effect (15:20)
  • Has "5 intelligence" (16:50)

Something I didn't think to consider was Honeydew's speed. There's actually a partial shot of the room although we can't see the lever Honeydew pulled. Doing a rough visual estimate, if you assumed he moved like 2 meters to go from the door to off screen where the lever might be and he acted in 0.25 seconds, average human reaction time, he would have had to move 8 meters per second or athletic human level, a bit above world record marathon speed. He also has superhuman strength and durability, a hammer, but it seemingly impulsive and not very smart. If the others have no physicals he could maybe blitz.

Next for Duncan I user the randomizer to get episode 5 which is the mimic fight. That's probably not good for him, he does pretty poorly in that although he does get the scrolls in that one....

  • Shows random Mimic knowledge and decent perception (3:04)
  • Has a staff but is not very good with it due to having "6 strength" (3:40)
  • Mentions having 2 fireballs (4:10)
  • Duncan flails and misses a door with his staff (4:35)
  • Duncan easily identifies 3 scrolls after finding them (12:05)
  • Duncan's 3 scrolls are a scroll of illusory flame scimitar, scroll of cone of cold, and a scroll of fear. (12:18)
  • Duncan recieves a fire potion (14:25)
Yeah I guess that was the best he could hope for, he got all 3 scrolls plus a potion that ep. I am not sure if he'll win because of but it's probably the best ep for him here. Below average strength but several magic abilities and a few intelligence feats.

Next up is Sjin, the Rat King. Random number picker gives me episode 7. Weird how these are all adjacent so far. 7 is the sewer fight if I recall correctly so he'll have the landing feat. Not sure if he'll get anything from the goblin fighting.

  • Claims to be immune to most of the diseases of a sewer due to massive exposure (1:56)
  • Sjin lands quite dexterously showing agility and durability after falling down into a sewer. (9:40) The fall is stated to be ~15 feet (~4.572 meters) which to tank means taking about 3 kilojoules, a low superhuman feat. Humans have survived this before but usually with more damage and spread out over larger sections of the body. As far as I know this would be impossible to withstand without taking damage landing on one's hands and feet like a rat.
  • Sjin the Rat King has the magical ability to summon rat. (15:50) The summoned rat severely injures a goblin (19:05)
Sjin's got a surprisingly good physical feat, at least durability wise. Doesn't super help offensively. He does have his rat for that though which seems to be relatively strong. Doesn't have much else though.

Finally we have Pretty Margaret and at this point I just hope it's not 4 or 8. Using the randomizer I get...1. So it's the origin one, so she'll have her electricity feat.
  • Claimed to be noble and brave, and capable of inspiring great feats in her companions (4:18)
  • Gives the party 1 HP from her song (5:33)
  • Honeydew claims Pretty Margaret is better then John Lennon. While this is only really a feat of musical talent, having extraordinarily high talent would probably imply in most cases at least slightly higher general intelligence. (6:25)
  • Is from the "69th Orcish Legion: Entertainment Divison" (9:03) which was famously ripped apart after she played an electrifiying lick on her magical lute. (9:12) The animation shows her going through a portal but it's not clear if this is something her music did or what.

Fight:

This is the first one that's been in a battle royale format. In terms of attack potency Honeydew and Honey Margaret have superhuman attack potency via strength or electric music. Duncan might have superhuman attack potency from his fire potion compared to a "Molotov Cocktail." In contrast Sjin and Honeydew both have superhuman dura and probably pretty similar at that.

Given Honeydew's enhanced reaction and movement speed along with the fact that he's the only one here with superhuman attack potency and durability, he's a clear stat outlier. It's very possible he could just blitz and one-shot everyone here. The only one he couldn't one shot is possibly Sjin, but Sjin's the only one who can't get past Honeydew's dura.

However Honeydew doesn't have an assured win. This isn't really because of his intelligence, though that is part of it, but due to the fact that he doesn't have any area of effect attacks. He could one-shot one person but if he doesn't take Margaret, she can electrify him, and if he doesn't one-shot Duncan, Duncan can try to freeze him, though that has a chance of not working, or using one of his other magics to distract the unintelligent dwarf.

If they start at a long range, I think this is pretty clearly and easily a win for Pretty Margaret. Her lightning can rip apart an entire orcish legion, showing both area of effect and power strong enough to one-shot everyone else here before they can do anything in return. At close range this gets a lot trickier because my intuition is Honeydew would probably attack Margaret first. She's visually the biggest threat given she's an orc while the other two are an elf and a gnome, and Honeydew in his ep did go adventuring with an orc who looks just like her suggesting he would have some idea of the threat posed.

From there things get interesting. Duncan does have some ways of hypothetically beating Honeydew if he's not blitzed instantly, though it's implied he might not have full control of his abilities. If he can't stop Honeydew, then Honeydew just mows through him and Sjin, Sjin could maybe take a blow or two, but neither are gonna do any real damage to him. Duncan might be able too via freezing him with cone of cold or using his "fire potion." Distracting him via illusory scimitar or via fear spell but he needs to be careful with that.

Sjin wants to win too and assuming Duncan can get off some kind of magic to stop Honeydew, Sjin could just sneak on Duncan while he's doing that or just summon the rat to attack him from behind before he has a chance to do much else. If Duncan has somehow stopped Honeydew by this point, then that secures the win for the Rat King as his rat should be easily strong enough to do serious damage to Duncan, given it did to the goblin. However if he hasn't beaten Honeydew yet, then Sjin will have accidentally sealed his fate as if Duncan used fear magic that doesn't last forever, or if he distracted him with an illusion, Sjin's got basically no way to stop Honeydew. I mean, it's POSSIBLE if Honeydew just stood there the rat could tear at his jugular, or tricking into falling into a pit or something but most likely Honeydew would just beat him up. As such victory for Sjin here is doable, but requires proper timing and sequencing, as well as Honeydew to go for Pretty Margaret at the beginning.

Overall I think if they start at close range the winner more often then not would be Honeydew. He can and likely would take down the biggest threat first, and after that there's just more chances for the others to win either if Duncan fails to get his spell off/uses it wrongly, or if Duncan only distracts Honeydew and then Sjin takes out Duncan, Honeydew can clean up afterwards. If they start at long range, I think Pretty Margaret would win pretty clearly, but given the most likely starting range would be close range I feel pretty safe giving this one to Honeydew.
