Wiz: Magical Girls.
These champions of magic use magic to save the world…
Boomstick: …with the
girliest powers possible. Sailor Moon, the soldier of love and justice
Wiz: and Cardcaptor
Sakura, heir to the great Clow Reed.
Boomstick: He’s Wiz and
I’m Boomstick
Wiz: And it's our job
to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win... a Death
Battle.
XXX
Wiz: A self-professed
crybaby, a clumsy coward with poor grades, no one ever expected much from 14
year old schoolgirl Usagi Tsukino…that is until one day when she, running late
for school ran into a mysterious cat with a crescent moon on her forehead. A
cat known as Luna. Luna seemed like a normal cat at first…except that night she
spoke.
Boomstick: …That’s not
what normal means.
Wiz: *exasperated
noise*
Boomstick: Luna
revealed that to Sailor Moon that she was a Sailor Senshi, reincarnations of
ancient warriors dedicated to protecting the universe from evil forces.
Wiz: She, along with
the other Sailor Senshi on the Earth were given the mission to find the “Moon
Princess”
Boomstick: Surprise
Surprise, turns out she was also the moon princess all along. Hey wiz, why is
the Moon Princess so important anyway.
Wiz: Well all Sailor
Senshi use something called “Sailor Crystals” as the sources of their power.
The Moon Princess was said to have the Silver Crystal. You see Sailor Moon’s
sailor crystal was not just any sailor crystal. It was actually the “Mabaroshi
no Ginzhuisho” or “Legendary Silver Crystal”, a holy gem containing INFINITE
power, capable of warping reality and giving complete dominion over the
universe.
Boomstick: …What the
hell?! Infinite power? So she can just do anything?
Wiz: Notttttt
exactly…while the silver crystal’s theoretical power is infinite, it’s bound to
the user’s heart, meaning that the more emotion they feel, the more power they
can summon from it.
Boomstick: So she’s
like a girlier version of the Hulk? Sailor Moon Smash!!
Wiz: In a sense. The
power of the Silver Crystal might help explain Sailor Moon’s somewhat variable
power level, capable of fighting a living evil universe and almost dying
against a balloon one season later.
Boomstick: Luckily even
without the little rock of plot convenience, Sailor Moon has a number of items
to help her.
Wiz: Her hairpieces
amplify her hearing and amplifies her crying to be strong enough to shake a
building. Her tiara can be used to shoot a blast of moonlight capable of
destroying shadows, or can be thrown for her famous tiara throw capable of
turning monsters into moon dust with a single slice.
Boomstick: And this was
only scratching the surface. Her next attacks were far more insane. Her Moon Healing Escalation, a magical light
capable of restoring whole worlds and destroying a monster made of darkness covering
the whole Earth.
Whiz: Her Moon Princess
Halation shoots a blast of light capable of destroying a black hole, creating
an explosion visible from the edge of the solar system.
Boomstick: Holy Shit!
Whiz: Her Moon Spiral
Heart Attack…
Boomstick: Are you just
making up these names…
Whiz: And it’s super
form the Rainbow Moon Heartache…
Boomstick: You’re just
making up these names, aren’t you?
Whiz: create a heart
based projectile capable of destroying a dimension trapping Sailor Moon.
Boomstick: Her Moon
Gorgeous Meditation attack traps opponent in a spinning rainbow kaleidoscope
dimension that probably makes them really sick like a bad carnival ride.
Wiz: Her Starlight
Honeymoon Therapy Kiss attack…
Boomstick: You are
definitely just making up these names!
Wiz: as well as it’s
stronger form Silver Moon Crystal Power Therapy Kiss create waves of light
capable of attacking other dimensions, and equaling the power of Sailor
Galaxia, the most destructive Sailor Senshi, who can obliterate planets just by
pointing at them.
Boomstick: But of
course her real threatening attack is her Sailor Moon Kick, which…is just a
kick. Sometimes a pretty bad one (anime scene of Usagi and Chibiusa trying to
kick Fisheye and go flying past)
Wiz: Usagi’s strongest
advantage is her love and empathy that lets her understand her enemies and turn
potential enemies into friends. By the end of the series she had an endless
love for the whole universe, even Chaos, the source of all evils. And it was
this love that allowed her to unlock her ultimate power, that makes all the
others pale in comparison.
Boomstick: Oh what is
it this time? The Silver Crystal Light Love Moon Happy Fun-Time Super Special
Awesome Mega Friendship Blast Surprise?
Wiz: Actually it’s The
Lambda Power.
Boomstick: Oh…that’s a
lot less impressive sounding.
Wiz: It might not sound
that impressive but the Lambda Power is something else entirely capable of
restoring the entire cosmos. It’s so powerful because all Sailor Crystals’
powers are aspects of it. Meaning that it can give the powers of all the other
sailor senshi. Control of the Elements, regeneration from having her soul
melted down…
Boomstick: …control of
space and time, reality-warping, creating waves of death on a cosmic scale…
Wiz:
Super-Intelligence, super-speed running, super strength, psychic sense…the list
goes on. Fitting given there are hundreds of billions of star systems in the
galaxy alone, let alone the billions of galaxies in the universe. Just a single
burst of the lambda power destroyed Chaos without Usagi even trying too.
Boomstick: Though even
without the Lambda Power she’s done some absolutely insane feats. She’s
survived a black hole, LEAPT into orbit, flown across the galaxy in seconds and
saved the universe on multiple occasions.
Wiz: At the age of 14
she was made Queen of the Moon and at the age of 22 she was elected Queen of
the Earth and turned the Earth into a harmonious utopia of immortals protected
by the Silver Crystal. All this might make her sound invincible right? Well…not
quite…you see Usagi is…
Bomstick: incompetent.
She is clumsy, a crybaby, a coward, bad at school, naïve, gluttonous, lazy…
Wiz: the list goes on.
By her own admission. Also while Usagi’s love is her greatest strength, it’s
also her greatest weakness. She often shows mercy and forgiveness on her
enemies and doesn’t have the anger to use the full force of the Silver Crystal.
Boomstick: However, threaten her loved ones and
she’ll punish you in the name of the moon.
Sailor
Moon: I’m the pretty suited Sailor Senshi, Sailor Moon! In the name of the
moon, I will punish
you!"
XXX
Wiz: Young Sakura was
just a normal girl…
Boomstick: …outside of
being descended from the strongest sorcerer to ever live Clow Reed! Do you ever
know what normal means Wiz anymore?
Wiz: Well…. outwardly
she seemed like a normal girl. That said one day she journeyed into the family
library and opened a book holding the 52 clow cards. Immediately these cards,
holding the 52 clow spirits scattered freed. This began her adventure to
re-collect the 52 Clow cards again, turning them into her own Sakura cards. And
with the help of her friends….she did.
Boomstick: Within 2
years, Sakura reclaimed the cards and turned them into her Sakura spirits and
can use their abilities. These cards range from capable of destroying the world
to being less intimidating to what I ate from breakfast.
Wiz: The 52 original
cards are arranged into a hierarchy. At the top are Light and Dark and right
under are Fiery, Earthy, Watery and Windy.
Boomstick: It’s the “y”
at the end that really shows they have authority…each of these have cards
related to them and are grouped together.
Wiz: The Watery can
control water, including the entire ocean. It’s associated cards can rain and
snow, can make wood grow, can freeze things, and can create a mist that
dissolves matter on contact
Boomstick: The Hell?
Ermm…Fiery can create a fire large enough to evaporate the snow covering a town
in one burst and it’s associated cards can create arrows and energy bolts, make
Sakura a fighting master, give her super strength, clone her, make her briefly
intangible, or create a sword so sharp it can cut through a warp in spacetime.
Wiz: Windy is capable
of creating winds strong enough to slow an elephant’s descent and is the card
group Sakura has most affinity towards. The cards associated with Windy can
create a magical song or steal a voice and can let Sakura fly or run at super
speeds fast enough to outpace any of the other Sakura cards.
Boomstick: Earthy can
cause earthquakes capable of threatening cities. It’s cards can control sand,
create a magical seal, a nigh-impenetrable forcefield, reflect attacks, can
create a looping reality, can force someone to tell the truth, trap someone in
a maze dimension, and worst of all….create enough flowers to bury a city.
Oooohh
Wiz: The Dark can cause
darkness enough to darken the Sun and other stars. It’s cards can create
illusions, erase things from existence, switch peoples’ minds, send people to
sleep and control dreams, freeze time and create a magical silence only magic
noise can penetrate.
Boomstick: The Light
can make the sun shine through the Dark. It’s cards can create matter from
nothing, make something grow or shrink, make things glow, send someone back in
time like Tracer from Overwatch, create a shadow capable of controlling all
shadows and growing the size of a city, and make sweets. Man after reading all
that I could really go for a card capable of making beers!
(Wordy section. Cards with lesser impact or no
impact on fight should probably be a sidebar)
Wiz: Together the 52
Clow Cards hold power equal to Clow Reed, who was so powerful that he could
warp every dimension with just a stray thought and knew everything that would
happen in the future save for love.
Boomstick: Know
everything huh? Then does he know (enter some joke here like licks to get to
center of a tootsie pop, how they get cream in twinkies, etc. )
Wiz: (Answer Potential
Answer here). That said Sakura held a power inside her stronger than even the
Sakura cards. Sakura’s greatest strength is her hope and optimism; she always
believes that things will get better no matter what.
Boomstick: This was put
to the test when she fought the Nothing, a card with negative energy to equal
all the other 52 cards. The Nothing had erased from existence all of Sakura’s
friends and family.
Wiz: That said Sakura
realized that The Nothing was only trying to embrace things because it was
lonely and showed it love, turning it into her ultimate card The Hope,
representing Sakura’s endless hope restoring everyone. Given that Clow Reed
himself put all his power into the 52 Cards and Sakura was able to transform a
card equal to all of them by herself, that officially makes Sakura the
strongest sorcerer in her multiverse.
Boomstick: Yes….THIS is
truly the face of ultimate power.
Wiz: Don’t be fooled by
appearances. Despite her….less then intimidating appearance, Sakura has down
some incredible things.
Boomstick: She’s tough
enough to survive magical blasts from Yue, a card guardian with the power of
half of the Clow Cards and is magic resistant enough to resist the magic of
the strongest mages of her time like Eriol and Fei Wang Reed. When Fei Wang
Reed was going to destroy and recreate the entire multiverse to his will,
Sakura managed to counter it, with a little help from her boyfriend Syaoran,
and their clones.
Wiz: She’s fast enough
to dodge lightning without the Dash and is smart enough to capture cards with
card combinations thought to be impossible and intuitively grasp the elemental
advantages of the cards without instruction. She’s also capable of using her
Sealing Wand to seal spirits as Clow Reed did, and can use multiple cards in
combination to exponentially increase the amount of effects they can have.
Boomstick: And if she
wasn’t such a pushover…I mean nice girl, she could use her full power and
become like Clow Reed, capable of warping all reality with a thought and
knowing the future aside from love.
Wiz: Yes but that
touches on her weaknesses. Sakura, while an incredible mage, is still at heart
a normal human girl and not a fighter.
Boomstick: Yeah she
doesn’t have much combat experience, and still needs to eat, sleep and breath
like a normal person. See Wiz? That’s what normal means.
Wiz: Ughhh. Anyway
while Sakura’s hope is her greatest strength, it’s also her greatest weakness.
She can be rather naïve and impulsive, prone to just trusting that things will
work out. She is also rather prone to trying to make friends rather than fight.
Boomstick: Still, if
someone insists on a fight, they will massively regret underestimating the
great sorcerer Cardcaptor Sakura.
Sakura:
Key of Clow, power of magic, power
of light, surrender the Wand, the force ignite. Release!
XXX
Fight Scene here. There
are a lot of good counter options. Some of my favorites are Moon Twilight Flash
counter The Shadow, Ultrasonic Crying counter The Silence, The Loop or the
Mirror counter Silence Glaive, and the Sword cutting through the spacetime warp
of the Silver Crystal. That said both have like a million options and plenty of
counters for each other. Really can go wild here.
XXX
As I don’t know which
one of the two DB would pick, I provided answers for both sides.
If
Sailor Moon wins:
Boomstick: Woah! I can’t believe that just happened.
Wiz: Both Usagi and Sakura could both access
absolutely insane levels of magical power capable of wiping the other out of
existence, and both would hold back on each other at first.
Boomstick: The winner therefore wasn’t determined by
the extent of their powers, but the variety of their powers and the nature of
both characters.
Wiz: Sakura could combine two of her cards to create
a new magical effect. This creates exponentially more effects then could be
otherwise. This equation is called a factorial. If you include The Hope that’s
53 cards, meaning the total number would be 53 times 52 effects equaling 2,756
card effects.
Boomstick: Meanwhile Sailor Moon could use the power
of any of the Star Seeds. Even a low end estimate of 1 per solar system would
mean that’s hundreds of BILLIONS of magical effects from the hundreds of
billions of star systems in the galaxy.
Wiz: Let alone the universe. That’s million times of
times the amount of magical powers as Sakura.
Boomstick: In addition, Usagi was just more geared
for actual combat then Sakura was.
Wiz: Sakura hasn’t actually been in many fights and
is not much of a fighter. While Usagi was not certainly not anyone’s first
choice as one, she grew into her role as a Sailor Senshi, a soldier of the
stars, and has fought opponents of her own power level many times. Her powers
as a Sailor Senshi were suitably more combat-based then Sakura’s more general
powers.
Boomstick: Also while Sakura can use incredibly
powerful magic, she still tires out like any normal person, made especially
evident when she struggled to transform the Clow Cards because of the energy
cost.
Wiz: Meanwhile Sailor Moon uses the Silver Crystal,
a source of infinite power, keeping her capable of fighting forever.
Boomstick: (Enter Pun here)
Wiz: The winner is…Sailor Moon.
If
Cardcaptor Sakura wins:
Boomstick: Woah! I can’t believe that just happened.
Wiz: Both Usagi and Sakura were incredibly powerful,
incredibly versatile, and had many counters to what the other could throw at
the other. As such the winner required a close look at the details.
Boomstick: Usagi had a lot of powerful attacks, but
Sakura had a very strong defense against magic thanks to her battles with Yue
and Fei Wang Reed.
Wiz: While Usagi could win via a physical attack,
this is not something she’d consider fast, and Sakura’s shield defended her for
a while. Conversely Sakura is a more tactical and thought to use Silence to
keep Usagi from casting spells, The Little to reduce her magic and illusion to
create her fears and scare the famously cowardly Usagi. While none of these
would hold Usagi forever, they provided Sakura with enough time to counteract
Usagi’s advantages.
Boomstick: While Usagi’s Silver Crystal might have
infinite power, Usagi is used to fighting eldritch monsters from other
dimensions… and still wants to spare them. It would be hard for her to muster
enough emotion to use the Silver Crystal’s full power against a cute
spellcaster like herself.
Wiz: Exactly. And while Usagi could regenerate from
the lambda power, nothing stopped Sakura from sealing the Lambda Power itself
away. Or just erasing it from existence like Clow Reed could do with a
different law of existence.
Boomstick: Sakura was just too smart, too resistant,
and too…cute for Usagi to beat. (enter pun here)
Wiz: The winner is…Cardcaptor Sakura
