How they Compare: Mother Brain (Metroid)

In the future of the Galactic Federation the peaceful and wise race the Chozo created an Artificial Intelligence with the purposes of defending their planet Zebes and moreover Chozo civilization and culture. Mother Brain initially served her purpose well, however all that changed when the Chozo adopted a human girl who had lost her parents. The Chozo to make her strong enough to survive genetically engineered her to survive on their planet and trained her. That girl, Samus Aran, became the pinnacle of the Chozo's ideals, compassion and strength in equal measures.

Mother Brain was distressed at this. She saw life as chaotic and organic entities as unpredictable and dangerous. Moreover she was secretly both fearful and jealous of organic life's potential to evolve. But the Chozo would choose another organic lifeform as successor instead of her. When Space Pirates invaded the Chozo Homeworld Mother Brain betrayed her creators and took control of the space pirates, planning to maintain Chozo culture as she was told to in the most permanent way. With the space pirates under her control, Mother Brain masterminded several schemes, to take over the universe and destroy the chaos and potential of life that serves as a threat and order the cosmos to her will. preserving order and the information she was charged with protecting forever.

But she would be stopped each time by that very same Samus Aran. She and Samus were both created to be the ultimate creation of the Chozo, but where Mother Brain carries all the information that made the great Chozo Race, Samus carries their spirit with them, a living evolving thing that continually develops, the epitome of everything Mother Brain feared.

Mother Brain in her original state is an immobile giant brain however the capacities she commands are far more dangerous. In her giant cyborg body she was able to easily devastate Varia Suit Samus. This Samus would be far above Metroids that survived the impact of the Leviathan with the planet of Tallon IV. Even account for surface area, this would be a high island level feat. This might sound crazy but even the advanced civilizations are unable to properly fight Metroids with it being stated in the Metroid 1 guide that "even a single Metroid is a threat to planetary civilization." These civilizations in the manga are shown to have missiles that can individually "turn countries to ash" which is later shown. This is consistent with the Federation Force, Bounty Hunters weaker then Base Samus being able to defeat alien entities that can cause planetary seismic quakes, a feat likely in the country level range with Mother Brain scaling well above. Samus seeing just a normal space pirate is enough to supposedly enough to amplify her "battle strength" 5x normal so what the gap is between Varia Suit Samus seeing Mother Brain herself and normal Federation Forces and Metroids could very well be massive.

With the aid of her technology, Mother Brain should reach into the planetary range. Not only could she control the planetary shield around all of Zebes, but Mother Brain would have access to the technology of the Space Pirate Mothership that created a small black hole to destroy that same planetary shield. Also a simple research station in the Metroid universe has shown the capacity to destroy a planet and it's self destruction has been calced as high as large planet level before, let alone the technology of the Chozo. Mother Brain's self destruction itself was able to destroy a planet with 960x Earth's gravity in an explosion violent enough it has been calced into the large stellar ranges before, though given this is a self destruction this is far from combat useable in most cases.

In terms of speed, as mentioned even single Metroids are threats to planetary civilization in a timespan that's presumably not that massive. The Federation were unaware that Metroids even had a stage past their actual infant stage, meaning this would likely not take place over years despite the fact that they are small animalistic intellect creatures that attack at melee range. And individual Metroids are vastly weaker then Cyborg Mother Brain and Samus, who in a weaker state fought Gorea who destroyed civilization across an entire galaxy in three months, requiring speeds likely millions of times the speed of light.

Mother Brain has many capacities, mostly linked to her super intelligence. She is the AI of the Chozo, the most advanced race in the galaxy, who planned to organize the galaxy and even the universe, controlling every detail to order it should she have won. She was able to instantly assume command of the space pirates when they entered the Chozo's system, can advance the most advanced technology in the galaxy as it was she who created the legendary Chozo Power Armor, and has stored the information of the Chozo Race. She can use this to predict how most people will act via analytical analysis though Samus continually defies her expectations. She was also aware of events across all of Zebes as the Chozo designed her to watch over the entire planet.

Her intellect is so advanced it gives her outright psychic abilities. It was stated that she was able to telepathically control all of Zebes, turning it into a fortress. Every lifeform on the planet were under her control, and the very land was reshaped to make it more of a challenge to get to her. This telepathy can control sentient entities as well, and can be harness in the form of telekinetic shockwaves. She also has control of the technology of the planet, with her base having numerous homing energy blasts to stop intruders and a self destruct that will blow up the planet. In her cyborg form not only does she can mobility, but also the ability to shoot lasers and explosions, her eye laser quickly devasting even Varia Suit Samus. She was also able to quickly recover from the Baby Metroid's lifeforce drain and was able to tank Samus' weapons including freezing and paralysis technology.

With preparation time, Mother Brain should also be able to replicate any of the technology of the Chozo and mimic or acquire the technology of the Space Pirates under her command. The Chozo were the most advanced race in the Galaxy who created such things as the life draining biological entities the Metroids, ghostly guardians, machines that manipulate gravity, planet wide security systems, the Power Armor itself and more. The Space Pirates for their part have plundered technology from across the galaxy and include such things as machines that can create black holes.

In terms of weaknesses, Mother Brain's original weakness was that she was an immobile giant artificial brain in a jar. She had powerful weapons she could telepathically control, a shield around her, and could react at very high speeds, but she was immobile herself, and something of a glass cannon if one could get past her shield. Mother Brain also has some difficulty predicting biological life, which is why she's so afraid of it. While her intelligence can allow her to predict the actions of most people, particularly noble actions continually surprise her and the ability of life to evolve is something she considers unpredictable.

Mother Brain created the Chozo Power Armor integrating Chozo magic into it)

So what would happen if Mother Brain sought to order life in other universes?

Mother Brain, my favorite Metroid villain, does remind me of possibly my favorite DC villain Brainiac, so what if she appeared within Earth-1? In terms of power she'd obviously have to avoid fighting anyone of substantial strength on the cosmic scene. Most metahuman worlds have metahumans that can destroy planets and stars and if she got the attention of the Sector's Green Lantern she'd be really out of luck regardless of member as even her self destruct is only comparable to the things that a Green Lantern's auto-shields protect against, planetary explosions, black holes, and supernovas. Mother Brain would have to act as more of a subtle infiltrator, though fortunately for her, this is something she excels at.

Mother Brain is an extraordinarily advanced intellect which, while not unheard of in the DCU, could quite fairly contend with most superintellects. Moreover her telepathy would be extremely potent. Planetary psychics are relatively rare in the DCU as control on such a wide scale can give one a substantial control over the collective consciousness and its reality warping capability. If Mother Brain appeared on a random alien world, she could quickly commander its lifeforces including metahumans, and technology for her own use with only something like a Justice League Member or a Green Lantern able to outright resist her control. Even if she had to fight, her technology is fairly relative to any random alien race in the DCU with races like Rann, Thanagar, and Tamaran typically have technology around or slightly inferior to the Galactic Federation in most regards. If given enough time she might be a threat to a local space sector as she might use an army of controlled metahuman to fight its local Green Lantern.

There is a bit of a cap though as a Mid Tier Lantern would likely be able to get though such forces regardless, let alone if any of the strongest heroes of Earth become involved or the other strongest heroes of the universe against whom Mother Brain is just outmatched. The only ways she would get farther then threatening a local space sector if if she was able to tap into the reality-warping power of the people under her control like New 52 Brainiac was planning to use Earth's population for, or indeed if Brainiac found her and assimilated her into Mother Brainiac, another extension of his intellect which would be relatively fitting. Granted even in her own universe she is broadly a threat to her galaxy, so being a threat to a random space sector would be essentially a sidegrade, so long as she doesn't appear in one that happens to have one of the stronger characters in the DCU.

What about the other of the Comic Big 2, which has a big more emphasis on the sci-fi elements like aliens, robots, and psychics? How would Mother Brain fit in there? Well Mother Brain would honestly fit in far more, even if her threat level would be lower then normal. Assuming you don't just scale everyone to everyone, Mother Brain has the stats one might expect from a High Meta/Low Herald type entity, who often have feats that involve significantly affecting moons and planets and speeds ranging from lightspeed to the lower MFTL+ much like Mother Brain.

As might be expected from the prior description, Mother Brain would honestly fit in much better in Earth-616. Her style as well as her capacities are much more like what is usually seen in Marvel. Planetary Psychics are if not common then normal for high tier Psychics and Mother Brain would likely be seen as primarily a psychic. Her powerset is a bit interesting in that it can also control inanimate forces alongside sentient and non sentient life but this isn't unheard of. Rachel Summers for instance is a similar potent psychic who can also telekinetically control matter on the molecular level on a wide scale. Mother's Brain intelligence is also potent but fairly normal for supergenius type villains in the Marvel universe who tend to create technology of similar potency. Magneto for instance, who is of relatively mid level intelligence for a Marvel supervillain was able to create his own AI, space station, and modify Cerebro, a planetary mutant tracking device.

Mother Brain would appear and begin to attempt to recreate her forces, though if it's anywhere in the range of hte eight galaxies controlled by the Galactic Council word of her would arrive fast to metahumans that can defeat her quite easily. Her technology would be fairly normal compared to galaxy spanning empires like the Kree and Skrull. She'd fit as a conventional Guardians of the Galaxy villain or similar.

Legend of Zelda is another early powerhouse franchise for Nintendo with a more serious tone so what would happen if Mother Brain landed in Hyrule? While light-timing in some variations appears in most of the timelines, but this is likely the speed of Zero Suit Samus and Baby Metroids who can avoid laser fire and quickly threaten life on a planetary scale respectively. Power is a lot more relative. Hylia, weaker then Demise a weaker reincarnation of Ganondorf was able to send landmasses into the Sky to block out the sunlight calced at island level or higher. In Majora's Mask, the villain Majora was able to casually send the Moon plummeting from the sky with four giants stopping it's descent. These giants are them outscaled by Ganondorf who's power is great enough to cause eclipses with Small to Large Planet level power. Mother Brain's personal power would be high but below the level of people like the giants and the triforce wielders. Her technology outside her self destruct should be relative to them.

The big threat is obviously Mother Brain's psychic potential to simply control the planet of Hyrule. The Triforce Pieces are able to protect against extreme Mind Control, though it would still be very dangerous if the world and all its inhabitants were turned against them. Zelda however has purification powers capable of removing Calamity Ganon's mental influence from people which would likely work similarly against Mother Brain's control. From there with her aid Link and/or Ganon would have to challenge Mother Brain herself while Mother Brain watches them do so, shaping the world to try and stop it.

In a direct fight, as of the latest timeline, both Ganondorf and Link should have substantial advantages against Mother Brain as Link can reflect attacks like Mother Brain's laser with the Master Sword while Ganondorf has magic abilities Mother Brain would likely compare to Phazon such as corrupting creatures into his enhanced minions. While Chozo tech would allow Mother Brain to hypothetically get past Ganon's low-godly regeneration as it can destroy immaterial souls, most of Mother Brain's conventional weapons would not harm Ganon, while Ganon can replicate all of Mother Brain's abilities and more, with similarly strong telekinesis, a wider variety of attacks. Mother Brain is more intelligent and might be able to manipulate Ganondorf, which is her best chance and the worst scenario, though given Ganondorf's personality it seems unlikely he would accept the alliance. If Mother Brain initiates her self-destruction, that might kill them all though Link has a 30 second time reversal ability with recall meaning he might be able to loop time to allow himself or Ganon to kill Mother Brain before she initiates it. Overall she would be a massive threat to the world but is stoppable, if with high difficulty.

Mother Brain was the main antagonist of the Captain N series where Pit was one of the protagonists, so if the real Mother Brain appeared in the world of Kid Icarus, how would she do? Surprisingly the stats of the two verses match up well scaling of Pyrrhon bringing the Aurum Brain away from Earth at fast speeds calced as country level, Viridi claiming her fingernails could rip out the Earth's core, and Pit flying into another star system at hundreds of millions of times the speed of light. If anything Mother Brain's stats would be slightly on the lower side against named characters, though her planetary weapons would be the strongest weapons below the three treasures, and her physical stats are close enough to compete.

Mother Brain instantly figures out there are space pirates and commander them much like she did in Metroid. 😄More seriously Mother Brain has some potent offensive capacities such as planetary mind control, creating a black hole, and with prep time much more along with her ability to control the suprisingly advanced tech in the verse. On the other hand, the divine entities of the verse have various divine abilities she doesn't have any resistance. While she can resist Pit's freezing for instance, Pit can reflect attacks, petrify opponents or turn them into eggplant, or lock onto weak points. And the Gods have greater capacity able to do this without a projectile from cosmic distance.

Mother Brain does have one advantage which is that the cast of Kid Icarus is a bunch of big goofy dorks. Mother Brain would pretty instantly be the most serious and focused character in the verse especially combined with her superintelligence. However the Gods regularly watch over happenings on Earth from Angel Land and if Mother Brain just took over the planet would probably realize they need to stop her if only for her destroying humanity, nature, and any chance to conquer it themselves at once. If they go to try and confront her directly they run the risk of being controlled but if they do their normal and send their angels and forces in general after her well they can just continually return them to their senses if controlled and have them make their way through Mother Brain's defenses similar to what Palutena already does with Pit. While it might take a bunch of tries, they can probably defeat Mother Brain eventually.

Finally the Mass Effect Galaxy is a video game galaxy that is under threat of the Reapers, artificial cosmic horrors that seek to wipe out all life from the universe so what would happen if the ran across another video game AI run amok from a very different era both in and out of universe? The Reapers would not ally with Mother Brain similar to how they wouldn't with the Geth, and would probably more want to take control of her as a tool, something she would want to not happen and so the two would come into conflict. The Reapers are giant warship sized synthetic entities, tough enough that one withstood a mass accelerator weapon that caused a massive scar along a planet, calced over 1 Petaton, though it's very low in the Petatons and Mother Brain scales very high above her own feats to the point she's probably relative. Reapers can also travel at the speed required to approach galaxies quickly, giving likely relative speed to Gorea. Mother Brain is probably faster but not likely be a large amount. Mother Brain would probably have a pretty fair one v one fight with a Reaper itself.

In conflict the Reapers mind controlling capabilities are far below. The Reapers rely on indocrination, a slow mind control that works on a smaller scale. In comparison Mother Brain can simply telepathically take control of a planet, similar to the Thorian but without the use of spores, and like the Thorian did against the Reapers, Mother Brain can shield herself and her assets against Indoctrination. Against an all out assault from the Reapers, Mother Brain would be outnumbered and weaker by assets amount, basically only able to protect a single planet from Reaper assault so the Reapers themselves could stop Mother Brain, though she would be a significant force, especially if she gains Geth cooperation. One of her more broken assets in the Mass Effect universe is that via cloning she could create her other Metroids and Space Pirates which would be leagues beyond any ground forces or indeed the vast majority of spaceships in the Mass Effect universe.

The Various alien races themselves would likely not be able to stop Mother Brain. While Shepard and his team was able to take down the Human Reaper in ME 2, Mother Brain's cyborg body does not have obvious weak points, is vastly faster, and most problematically has planetary telepathic control. Not even the Geth or Thorian controlled people would be able to resist as Mother Brain's control can even affect technology and the land itself. They could attempt to fire at her from space but Mother Brain has a planetary shield. And with time Mother Brain can create an army of aliens that are each individually invulnerable and have super speed compared to the verse. The only real thing that might be able to stop her is the Crucible, though if she finds out they plan to use the superweapon against her, she might be able to stop its activation. Mother Brain would be a notable local third party in the war with the Reapers and if not destroyed during the conflict would pose her own massive threat to the galaxy and its organic life.
