Death Prediction: Dracula vs Sauron

Even the gods of darkness possess their own generals in the mortal realm. Some of these are nobler then their master, and misguided in their service, and some of them through birth or corruption are as wicked and vile as they come, a dark general worthy of their master.

Dracula, King of the Vampires

Sauron, the Dread Abomination

I am Imperator100 and this is a Death Prediction

Origin:

Dracula was once a Transylvanian noble, at once a statesman, soldier and alchemist, renowned for his lack of fear. He is noted to have studied dark magic at the fabled academy of scholomance. In the war against the Turks, Dracula gained the title of voivode, a high military command rank, and through his courage and intellect gained some success. But to gain victory against the Turks, Dracula would need more.

Dracula's people had made secret dealings with the Devil and now Dracula would make the ultimate deal, for the demonic powers of the Devil and complete victory against the Turks he would become the lord of the dead on earth.

Physical Capacities:

As a Vampire, Dracula is immortal, unable to die from age.
“When they become such, there comes with the change the curse of immortality. They cannot die, but must go on age after age adding new victims and multiplying the evils of the world.”

Dracula's physical strength and durability are highly boosted. He is multiple times stated to have the strength of 20 men and is durable enough even in sunlight to survive crashing through a window and a long fall unharmed
“Amid the crash and glitter of the falling glass, he tumbled into the flagged area below. Through the sound of the shivering glass I could hear the "ting" of the gold, as some of the sovereigns fell on the flagging.
We ran over and saw him spring unhurt from the ground. He, rushing up the steps, crossed the flagged yard, and pushed open the stable door.”

He is immune to diseases which wipe out whole peoples
“He that can smile at death, as we know him. Who can flourish in the midst of diseases that kill off whole peoples.”

and if something physical could threaten him he can become intangible at will during nighttime:
“On the watch last night I saw It, like a man, tall and thin, and ghastly pale. It was in the bows, and looking out. I crept behind It, and gave it my knife, but the knife went through It, empty as the air.”

His speed is also similarly enhanced. Despite being in sunlight his speed is described as pantherlike and he moves faster then several people (including nigh-superhumans) can notice:
“Suddenly with a single bound he leaped into the room. Winning a way past us before any of us could raise a hand to stay him. There was something so pantherlike in the movement, something so unhuman, that it seemed to sober us all from the shock of his coming.”

During nighttime he was able to blitz the Vampire Women who should be at least as fast as Dracula is during the day when he is supposedly powerless. He is noted as being "quick as lightning" though this may be hyperbole
“But at that instant, another sensation swept through me as quick as lightning. I was conscious of the presence of the Count, and of his being as if lapped in a storm of fury. As my eyes opened involuntarily I saw his strong hand grasp the slender neck of the fair woman and with giant's power draw it back, the blue eyes transformed with fury, the white teeth champing with rage, and the fair cheeks blazing red with passion. But the Count! Never did I imagine such wrath and fury, even to the demons of the pit. His eyes were positively blazing. The red light in them was lurid, as if the flames of hell fire blazed behind them. His face was deathly pale, and the lines of it were hard like drawn wires. The thick eyebrows that met over the nose now seemed like a heaving bar of white-hot metal. With a fierce sweep of his arm, he hurled the woman from him, and then motioned to the others, as though he were beating them back. It was the same imperious gesture that I had seen used to the wolves. In a voice which, though low and almost in a whisper seemed to cut through the air and then ring in the room he said,”

He is also able to cling to walls and scuttle around on them
“But my very feelings changed to repulsion and terror when I saw the whole man slowly emerge from the window and begin to crawl down the castle wall over the dreadful abyss, face down with his cloak spreading out around him like great wings. At first I could not believe my eyes. I thought it was some trick of the moonlight, some weird effect of shadow, but I kept looking, and it could be no delusion. I saw the fingers and toes grasp the corners of the stones, worn clear of the mortar by the stress of years, and by thus using every projection and inequality move downwards with considerable speed, just as a lizard moves along a wall.”

Famously as a Vampire he can convert another to one of his kind, though he must drain all of their blood until they die for this to occur
"For all that die from the preying of the Un-dead become themselves Un-dead, and prey on their kind.”

He can also see in the dark
“He can see in the dark, no small power this, in a world which is one half shut from the light.”

It should also be noted he may be durable enough to survive the powerful forces of nature (including mention of volcanos) and the occult world as it is noted he survived centuries in such a place that he would be exposed to the powerful forces of the natural and occult world WITHOUT Demonic aid (IE Magic from the Devil)
“Were another of the Undead, like him, to try to do what he has done, perhaps not all the centuries of the world that have been, or that will be, could aid him. With this one, all the forces of nature that are occult and deep and strong must have worked together in some wondrous way. The very place, where he have been alive, Undead for all these centuries, is full of strangeness of the geologic and chemical world. There are deep caverns and fissures that reach none know whither. There have been volcanoes, some of whose openings still send out waters of strange properties, and gases that kill or make to vivify. Doubtless, there is something magnetic or electric in some of these combinations of occult forces which work for physical life in strange way, and in himself were from the first some great qualities. In a hard and warlike time he was celebrate that he have more iron nerve, more subtle brain, more braver heart, than any man. In him some vital principle have in strange way found their utmost. And as his body keep strong and grow and thrive, so his brain grow too. All this without that diabolic aid which is surely to him.”

Shapeshifting:

Dracula is noted as being able to "grow and become small" though the limit of either is unknown. It is known that is able to become small enough to fit through the "hairbreadth" space of a tomb door fused with fire:
“He become so small, we ourselves saw Miss Lucy, ere she was at peace, slip through a hairbreadth space at the tomb door. He can, when once he find his way, come out from anything or into anything, no matter how close it be bound or even fused up with fire, solder you call it.”

He can become a wolf or giant dog:
“But, strangest of all, the very instant the shore was touched, an immense dog sprang up on deck from below, as if shot up by the concussion, and running forward, jumped from the bow on the sand…..
A good deal of interest was abroad concerning the dog which landed when the ship struck, and more than a few of the members of the S. P.C.A., which is very strong in Whitby, have tried to befriend the animal. To the general disappointment, however, it was not to be found. It seems to have disappeared entirely from the town. It may be that it was frightened and made its way on to the moors, where it is still hiding in terror.
There are some who look with dread on such a possibility, lest later on it should in itself become a danger, for it is evidently a fierce brute. Early this morning a large dog, a half-bred mastiff belonging to a coal merchant close to Tate Hill Pier, was found dead in the roadway opposite its master's yard. It had been fighting, and manifestly had had a savage opponent, for its throat was torn away, and its belly was slit open as if with a savage claw.”

and of course, a bat:
“Between me and the moonlight flitted a great bat, coming and going in great whirling circles. Once or twice it came quite close, but was, I suppose, frightened at seeing me, and flitted away across the harbour towards the abbey.”

Both of these are larger then normal for their animals, suggesting he can alter his size in animal state. He can also turn into more elemental forms including mist or vapor:
“He can come in mist which he create, that noble ship's captain proved him of this, but, from what we know, the distance he can make this mist is limited, and it can only be round himself”
...
“Things began to whirl through my brain just as the cloudy column was now whirling in the room, and through it all came the scriptural words "a pillar of cloud by day and of fire by night." Was it indeed such spiritual guidance that was coming to me in my sleep? But the pillar was composed of both the day and the night guiding, for the fire was in the red eye, which at the thought gat a new fascination for me, till, as I looked, the fire divided, and seemed to shine on me through the fog like two red eyes, such as Lucy told me of in her momentary mental wandering when, on the cliff, the dying sunlight struck the windows of St. Mary's Church.”

and he can turn into elemental dust on moonlight rays
“He come on moonlight rays as elemental dust, as again Jonathan saw those sisters in the castle of Dracula.”

Mental Capacities:
Dracula was already a cunning and experienced military commander before his transformation, but prior to that he accumulated much experience more from his long lifespan:
“he is of cunning more than mortal, for his cunning be the growth of ages,”

Dracula is a psionic. He can use his hypnosis to control the minds of others
“twice during the night I was wakened by Lucy trying to get out. She seemed, even in her sleep, to be a little impatient at finding the door shut, and went back to bed under a sort of protest. I woke with the dawn, and heard the birds chirping outside of the window.”
...

“His red eyes again! They are just the same." It was such an odd expression, coming apropos of nothing, that it quite startled me. I slewed round a little, so as to see Lucy well without seeming to stare at her, and saw that she was in a half dreamy state, with an odd look on her face that I could not quite make out, so I said nothing, but followed her eyes. She appeared to be looking over at our own seat, whereon was a dark figure seated alone. I was quite a little startled myself, for it seemed for an instant as if the stranger had great eyes like burning flames, but a second look dispelled the illusion. The red sunlight was shining on the windows of St. Mary's Church behind our seat, and as the sun dipped there was just sufficient change in the refraction and reflection to make it appear as if the light moved. I called Lucy's attention to the peculiar effect, and she became herself with a start, but she looked sad all the same.”

Dracula also has a psychic link on those he has fed on and can access their senses, though they can do the same to him if hypnotized
“He has so used your mind, and by it he has left us here in Varna, whilst the ship that carried him rushed through enveloping fog up to Galatz, where, doubtless, he had made preparation for escaping from us.”

Vampires also possess a form of fear aura. Dracula's inferiors the Vampire Ladies have scared horses literally to death
“The horses had ceased to moan, and lay still on the ground. The snow fell on them softly, and they grew whiter. I knew that there was for the poor beasts no more of terror.”

Dracula is able to use his fear aura even while dormant in the daylight, causing paralysis
“There was no lethal weapon at hand, but I seized a shovel which the workmen had been using to fill the cases, and lifting it high, struck, with the edge downward, at the hateful face. But as I did so the head turned, and the eyes fell upon me, with all their blaze of basilisk horror. The sight seemed to paralyze me, and the shovel turned in my hand and glanced from the face, merely making a deep gash above the forehead.”

Dracula is also able to affect the physical world with his mind powers, giving him telekinesis. He has steered a ship into harbor during the worst storm on record:
“A great awe came on all as they realised that the ship, as if by a miracle, had found the harbour, unsteered save by the hand of a dead man! However, all took place more quickly than it takes to write these words. The schooner paused not, but rushing across the harbour, pitched herself on that accumulation of sand and gravel washed by many tides and many storms into the southeast corner of the pier jutting under the East Cliff, known locally as Tate Hill Pier.”

The original ending of the novel written by Bram Stoker also suggests that Dracula's psionic power was so great that he was maintaining his castle and THE HILL IT WAS ON with his telekinetic power as when he dies the whole things crumbles to nothing
As we looked there came a terrible convulsion of the earth so that we seemed to rock to and fro and fell to our knees. At the same moment with a roar which seemed to shake the very heavens the whole castle and the rock and even the hill on which it stood seemed to rise into the air and scatter in fragments while a mighty cloud of black and yellow smoke volume on volume in rolling grandeur was shot upwards with inconceivable rapidity.

Then there was a stillness in nature as the echoes of that thunderous report seemed to come as with the hollow boom of a thunder-clap – the long reverberating roll which seems as though the floors of heaven shook. Then down in a mighty ruin falling whence they rose came the fragments that had been tossed skywards in the cataclysm.

From where we stood it seemed as though the one fierce volcano burst had satisfied the need of nature and that the castle and the structure of the hill had sunk again into the void. We were so appalled with the suddenness and the grandeur that we forgot to think of ourselves.

Note he would have to be doing this even during the daytime as well!

Magic:
Dracula gained a large amount of dark magic from his studies and later from the Devil himself. He is noted as having control of the elements, with storm, fog and thunder specifically mentioned.
"he can, within his range, direct the elements, the storm, the fog, the thunder,"

Dracula's lightning is so powerful that in the unpublished prologue "Dracula's Guest" written by Bram Stoker himself, the lightning "lit up the whole expanse of the heavens" and two strikes of it  destroyed the tomb and the body of another powerful vampire "Countess Dolingen"
As I leaned against the door, it moved slightly and opened inwards. The
shelter of even a tomb was welcome in that pitiless tempest, and I was
about to enter it when there came a flash of forked-lightning that lit up
the whole expanse of the heavens. In the instant, as I am a living man, I
saw, as my eyes were turned into the darkness of the tomb, a beautiful
woman, with rounded cheeks and red lips, seemingly sleeping on a bier.
As the thunder broke overhead, I was grasped as by the hand of a giant
and hurled out into the storm. The whole thing was so sudden that,
before I could realise the shock, moral as well as physical, I found the
hailstones beating me down. At the same time I had a strange,
dominating feeling that I was not alone. I looked towards the tomb. Just
then there came another blinding flash, which seemed to strike the iron
stake that surmounted the tomb and to pour through to the earth,
blasting and crumbling the marble, as in a burst of flame. The dead
woman rose for a moment of agony, while she was lapped in the flame,
and her bitter scream of pain was drowned in the thundercrash. The last
thing I heard was this mingling of dreadful sound, as again I was seized
in the giant-grasp and dragged away, while the hailstones beat on me,
and the air around seemed reverberant with the howling of wolves. The
last sight that I remembered was a vague, white, moving mass, as if all
the graves around me had sent out the phantoms of their sheeted-dead,
and that they were closing in on me through the white cloudiness of the
driving hail.

He was also able to create one of the greatest storms on record with rain, thunder, and darkness
“One of the greatest and suddenest storms on record has just been experienced here, with results both strange and unique. The weather had been somewhat sultry, but not to any degree uncommon in the month of August. Saturday evening was as fine as was ever known, and the great body of holiday-makers laid out yesterday for visits to Mulgrave Woods, Robin Hood's Bay, Rig Mill, Runswick, Staithes, and the various trips in the neighborhood of Whitby. The steamers Emma and Scarborough made trips up and down the coast, and there was an unusual amount of `tripping' both to and from Whitby. The day was unusually fine till the afternoon, when some of the gossips who frequent the East Cliff churchyard, and from the commanding eminence watch the wide sweep of sea visible to the north and east, called attention to a sudden show of `mares tails' high in the sky to the northwest. The wind was then blowing from the southwest in the mild degree which in barometrical language is ranked `No. 2, light breeze.'
The coastguard on duty at once made report, and one old fisherman, who for more than half a century has kept watch on weather signs from the East Cliff, foretold in an emphatic manner the coming of a sudden storm. The approach of sunset was so very beautiful, so grand in its masses of splendidly coloured clouds, that there was quite an assemblage on the walk along the cliff in the old churchyard to enjoy the beauty. Before the sun dipped below the black mass of Kettleness, standing boldly athwart the western sky, its downward was was marked by myriad clouds of every sunset colour, flame, purple, pink, green, violet, and all the tints of gold, with here and there masses not large, but of seemingly absolute blackness, in all sorts of shapes, as well outlined as colossal silhouettes. The experience was not lost on the painters, and doubtless some of the sketches of the `Prelude to the Great Storm' will grace the R. A and R. I. walls in May next.”

He maintained this storm for 4 days, also meaning he would have to do it in the daytime when he is very weak
“Four days in hell, knocking about in a sort of malestrom, and the wind a tempest.”

He was also able to maintain the fog for days at a time:
“1 August.--Two days of fog, and not a sail sighted.”
“4 August.--Still fog, which the sunrise cannot pierce,”

His eyes can also produce what I can only call a Heat Vision that can burn the strength from his opponents
“till I saw His eyes. They burned into me, and my strength became like water.”

Dracula can within limits, teleport
“and he can at times vanish and come unknown”

He is a necromancer, able to use divination by way of the dead and command all the dead:
“he have still the aids of necromancy, which is, as his etymology imply, the divination by the dead, and all the dead that he can come nigh to are for him at command”

Animals of the night and the insane are also bound to his will.

Weakness:
Dracula, as a unnatural force of evil, is weak to the forces of both nature and of holiness.

He is weak to natural forces such as garlic bulbs,
“Then there are things which so afflict him that he has no power, as the garlic that we know of, and as for things sacred, as this symbol, my crucifix, that was amongst us even now when we resolve, to them he is nothing, but in their presence he take his place far off and silent with respect. There are others, too, which I shall tell you of, lest in our seeking we may need them.”

Running Water,
“It is said, too, that he can only pass running water at the slack or the flood of the tide.”

and a wild rose
“The branch of wild rose on his coffin keep him that he move not from it,”

And he is weak to holy forces such as the crucifix
“As he had placed the Wafer on Mina's forehead, it had seared it . . . had burned into the flesh as though it had been a piece of whitehot metal. My poor darling's brain had told her the significance of the fact as quickly as her nerves received the pain of it, and the two so overwhelmed her that her overwrought nature had its voice in that dreadful scream.”

and the sacred bullet or stake through the heart
“a sacred bullet fired into the coffin kill him so that he be true dead, and as for the stake through him, we know already of its peace, or the cut off head that giveth rest.”

And of course his most famous weakness of all, the force of ultimate nature and light, the sun which renders him relatively powerless
“His power ceases, as does that of all evil things, at the coming of the day.”

That said, his weakness to light is overstated. To kill him even during sunlight required his throat being slit and a knife shoved into his heart at the same time
“But, on the instant, came the sweep and flash of Jonathan's great knife. I shrieked as I saw it shear through the throat. Whilst at the same moment Mr. Morris's bowie knife plunged into the heart.
It was like a miracle, but before our very eyes, and almost in the drawing of a breath, the whole body crumbled into dust and passed from our sight.”

Personality:
Who was it but one of my own race who as Voivode crossed the Danube and beat the Turk on his own ground? This was a Dracula indeed! Woe was it that his own unworthy brother, when he had fallen, sold his people to the Turk and brought the shame of slavery on them! Was it not this Dracula, indeed, who inspired that other of his race who in a later age again and again brought his forces over the great river into Turkeyland, who, when he was beaten back, came again, and again, though he had to come alone from the bloody field where his troops were being slaughtered, since he knew that he alone could ultimately triumph! They said that he thought only of himself. Bah! What good are peasants without a leader? Where ends the war without a brain and heart to conduct it? Again, when, after the battle of Mohacs, we threw off the Hungarian yoke, we of the Dracula blood were amongst their leaders, for our spirit would not brook that we were not free. Ah, young sir, the Szekelys, and the Dracula as their heart's blood, their brains, and their swords, can boast a record that mushroom growths like the Hapsburgs and the Romanoffs can never reach. The warlike days are over. Blood is too precious a thing in these days of dishonourable peace, and the glories of the great races are as a tale that is told."

Dracula is the Warrior King of the Vampires. He is characterized by a warlike pride, anger at insubordination and a desire to have dominance over the world. He is jealous and possessive of all that he can not have. He is also a force of dark mysticism that as Van Helsing explains the scientific world can never fight because they can never understand and so never believe in.

Sauron:

Origin:

The Beginning of the Universe. The Great Eru created a host of spirits, called the Ainur who created a melody of harmony that was to be the template of the world. The stronger of the Ainur to enter the physical world were the Valar and the lesser were the Maiar. However one of the Valar, known as Morgoth tried to increase his glory by weaving into the melody chords not in harmony with the will of Eru. This discord in the melody began the great conflict of good and evil and all the discord of the world. Morgoth did fall from Eru's grace and became Melkor, the representative of all evil.

In the first age of the world, there was a Maiar known as Mairon "The Admirable" under the service of the Valar Aule the smith. Mairon loved all order and despised inefficiency and waste and from these traits was corrupted and fell to the influence of Melkor whose efficiency and ability to bring about his plans masterfully drew Mairon to him. Under Melkor, Mairon because Sauron and became enemy of the harmony of Eru. The rebellion of Melkor and Sauron is considered the greatest degree of falling among the Ainur.

(Sauron's power decreased with time, this will be using him by Death Battle's Rules under "max potential" immediately after after his fall from his form as Mairon. Note that was before infusing part of his power into the one ring which means it will not be taken into account in this battle)

Physical Capacities:
Sauron has a physical body durable to survive almost any worldly assault. Even Lightning sent by the Valar was unable to harm him
Now the lightnings increased and slew men upon the hills, and in the fields, and in the streets of the city; and a fiery bolt smote the dome of the Temple and shore it asunder, and it was wreathed in flame. But the Temple itself was unshaken, and Sauron stood there upon the pinnacle and defied the lightning and was unharmed; and in that hour men called him a god and did all that he would.

Bear in mind the Valar are far stronger then the Maiar in general. Merely one of the Maiar, Gandalf in his battle with the Balrog did split the side of a mountain
'There upon Celebdil was a lonely window in the snow, and before it lay a narrow space, a dizzy eyrie above the mists of the world. The sun shone fiercely there, but all below was wrapped in cloud. Out he sprang, and even as I came behind, he burst into new flame. There was none to see, or perhaps in after ages songs would still be sung of the Battle of the Peak.' Suddenly Gandalf laughed. 'But what would they say in song? Those that looked up from afar thought that the mountain was crowned with storm. Thunder they heard, and lightning, they said, smote upon Celebdil, and leaped back broken into tongues of fire. Is not that enough? A great smoke rose about us, vapour and steam. Ice fell like rain. I threw down my enemy, and he fell from the high place and broke the mountain-side where he smote it in his ruin. Then darkness took me; and I strayed out of thought and time, and I wandered far on roads that I will not tell.'

This makes sense as Sauron was apparently of a "far higher order" then Maiar like Gandalf. To slay him required the power of Eru himself which did destroy the island he was on, and even this only destroyed his physical form as he can survive purely as a spirit
he was taken in the midst of his mirth, and his seat and his temple fell into the abyss. But Sauron was not of mortal flesh, and though he was robbed now of that shape in which he had wrought so great an evil, so that he could never again appear fair to the eyes of Men, yet his spirit arose out of the deep and passed as a shadow and a black wind over the sea, and came back to Middle-earth and to Mordor that was his home. There he took up again his great Ring in Barad-dur, and dwelt there, dark and silent, until he wrought himself a new guise, an image of malice and hatred made visible.

Information about Sauron's physical might is scarce but it should likely be at least comparable to his strength level given that there is some physical confrontations described between maiar level entities.

In terms of speed, Sauron is easily scale-able to the Balrogs who can travel a good way across a continent to aid their lord Melkor in at most minutes, a feat calced to be mach 2 highly conservatively.

Shapeshifting:

Sauron originally was able to shift his form at will though he lost the ability gradually over time. In combat he is noted especially to become a werewolf (the strongest in the world), a serpent and oddly enough a Vampire (though in the Lord of the Rings universe a vampire is a large batlike creature rather then a more contemporary vampire)
Therefore he took upon himself the form of a werewolf, and made himself the mightiest that had yet walked the world;

Then Sauron shifted shape, from wolf to serpent, and from monster to his own accustomed form;

And immediately he took the form of a vampire, great as a dark cloud across the moon,

in Tolkien's early version of Sauron he was called Lord of the Cats, suggesting he can take feline form as well.

Mental Capacities
Sauron is noted for his scientific knowledge and knowledge of the features of the world as befitting a Maiar associated with the Valar Aule the Smith
In his beginning he was of the Maiar of Aulë, and he remained mighty in the lore of that people

Sauron is also a master manipulator. He was able to manipulate the Elves of the Second Age, taking on the title of Annatar the Lord of Gifts, with only two (Gil-Galad and Elrond) being not under his sway
Men he found the easiest to sway of all the peoples of the Earth; but long he sought to persuade the Elves to his service, for he knew that the Firstborn had the greater power; and he went far and wide among them, and his hue was still that of one both fair and wise. Only to Lindon he did not come, for Gil-galad and Elrond doubted him and his fairseeming, and though they knew not who in truth he was they would not admit him to that land. But elsewhere the Elves received him gladly, and few among them hearkened to the messengers from Lindon bidding them beware; for Sauron took to himself the name of Annatar, the Lord of Gifts, and they had at first much profit from his friendship.

After willingly surrendering to the forces of Ar-Pharazon, in but 3 years Sauron went from most hated prisoner to most trusted and high councilman
Yet such was the cunning of his mind and mouth, and the strength of his hidden will, that ere three years had passed he had become closest to the secret counsels of the King; for flattery sweet as honey was ever on his tongue, and knowledge he had of many things yet unrevealed to Men. And seeing the favour that he had of their lord all the councillors began to fawn upon him, save one alone, Amandil lord of Andúnië.

and eventually became the true ruler behind the throne
Thus Ar-Pharazôn, King of the Land of the Star, grew to the mightiest tyrant that had yet been in the world since the reign of Morgoth, though in truth Sauron ruled all from behind the throne.

He also pretended initially to not be fallen to the other Ainur, giving information secretly to Melkor before being found out.

Sauron also uses illusions to aid his manipulation and deception
On a time of autumn he came in the dusk of evening, and drawing near he saw as he thought a light at the window; and coming warily he looked within. There he saw Eilinel, and her face was worn with grief and hunger, and it seemed to him that he heard her voice lamenting that he had forsaken her. But even as he cried aloud the light was blown out in the wind; wolves howled, and on his shoulders he felt suddenly the heavy hands of Sauron's hunters. Thus Gorlim was ensnared; and taking him to their camp they tormented, seeking to learn the hidings of Barahir and all his ways. But nothing would Gorlim tell. Then they promised him that he should be released and restored to Eilinel, if he would yield; and being at last worn with pain, and yearning for his wife, he faltered. Then straightaway they brought him into the dreadful presence of Sauron; and Sauron said: 'I hear now that thou wouldst barter with me. What is thy price?'
...
Then Sauron laughed; and he mocked Gorlim, and revealed to him that he had only seen a phantom devised by wizardry to entrap him; for Eilinel was dead. 'Nonetheless I will grant thy prayer,' said Sauron; 'and thou shalt go to Eilinel, and be set free of my service.' Then he put him cruelly to death.

Sauron is specifically noted for being the master of phantasms and shadows
Sauron was become now a sorcerer of dreadful power, master of shadows and of phantoms, foul in wisdom, cruel in strength, misshaping what he touched, twisting what he ruled, lord of werewolves; his dominion was torment.

Sauron is also noted as having a fear aura able to affect a whole fortress
He took Minas Tirith by assault, for a dark cloud of fear fell upon those that defended it; and Orodreth was driven out, and fled to Nargothrond.

Magic:
Sauron is a true lord of magic, such that even Elf Lords's like Felagund mastery could not defeat him in a magic duel
Thus befell the contest of Sauron and Felagund which is renowned. For Felagund strove with Sauron in songs of power, and the power of the King was very great; but Sauron had the mastery.

The power of Sauron's magical signal to the Witch-King created an earthquake nearly 100 miles away where Frodo and Sam are
At that moment the rock quivered and trembled beneath them. The great rumbling noise, louder than ever before, rolled in the ground and echoed in the mountains. Then with searing suddenness there came a great read flash. Far beyond the eastern mountains it leapt into the sky and splashed the lowering clouds with crimson. In that valley of shadow and cold deathly light it seemed unbearably violent and fierce. Peaks of stone and ridges like notched knives sprang out in staring black against the uprushing flame in Gorgoroth. Then came a great crack of thunder.

Sauron's magical power maintained his fortress of Barad-Dur and caused the volcano Amon Amarth to erupt in flame
Turgon followed Túrin, but of his time it is chiefly remembered that two years ere his death, Sauron arose again, and declared himself openly; and he re-entered Mordor long prepared for him. Then Barad-dûr was raised once more, and Mount Doom burst into flame

Sauron's magic can affect the weather such as creating a snowstorm to negatively affect the fellowship
‘I wonder if this is a contrivance of the Enemy,’ said Boromir. ‘They say in my land that he can govern the storms in the Mountains of Shadow that stand upon the borders of Mordor. He has strange powers and many allies.’

‘His arm has grown long indeed,’ said Gimli, ‘if he can draw snow down from the North to trouble us here three hundred leagues away.’

‘His arm has grown long,’ said Gandalf.

He also created a dark cloud to shroud over the sun
‘It comes from Mordor, lord,’ he said. ‘It began last night at sunset. From the hills in the Eastfold of your realm I saw it rise and creep across the sky, and all night as I rode it came behind eating up the stars. Now the great cloud hangs over all the land between here and the Mountains of Shadow; and it is deepening. War has already begun.

Sauron is also referred to as "The Necromancer" suggesting he can raise the dead.

Weaknesses:
For all his power, Sauron is NOT actually a fighter. This is why he associated originally with Aule instead of, say, Manwe. Despite his immortal age he doesn't get into many fights and when he does against his contemporaries he often loses, including once infamously to a dog.

The context of this scene is often removed to make it seem like it was a normal dog, though it was actually Huan, a magical dog of the Valar, as large as a horse and stronger then any mortal dog.

Regardless Sauron is not primarily a warrior but something more sinister, a manipulator. While this makes him a dangerous threat in the long run for the purposes of a singular battle it does somewhat hinder him.

He also loses his magic over time like everything in Middle Earth and in Later Ages he is weaker though this takes literal ages to happen and so would almost never be important in a fight.

Personality:
Sauron was not initially evil. Nothing is. Sauron was a lover of the rational, the orderly, the efficent, something admirable seeming when in alignment with the harmony of Eru. But he could not stand the chaos of existence and thought to make himself the absolute of divine order. He is as Tolkien describes him
In my story Sauron represents as near an approach to the wholly evil will as is possible. He had gone the way of all tyrants: beginning well, at least on the level that while desiring to order all things according to his own wisdom he still at first considered the (economic) well-being of other inhabitants of the Earth. But he went further than human tyrants in pride and the lust for domination, being in origin an immortal (angelic) spirit. Sauron desired to be a God-King, and was held to be this by his servants, by a triple treachery: 1. Because of his admiration of Strength he had become a follower of Morgoth and fell with him down into the depths of evil, becoming his chief agent in Middle-earth. 2. when Morgoth was defeated by the Valar finally he forsook his allegiance; but out of fear only; he did not present himself to the Valar or sue for pardon, and remained in Middle-earth. 3. When he found how greatly his knowledge was admired by all other rational creatures and how easy it was to influence them, his pride became boundless.

Alright the combatants are set, it's time for a DEATH PREDICTION

In the darkness of the world beyond, a great realm of death does stretch on infinitely, extending to all the worlds and forming a nexus upon which forces mutually strange might meet. Barred from it's entrance but residing near, the newly fallen Maiar, contemplating the dark lord ruling from beyond now christened he who would be Gorthaur or Sauron did reside above the abyss in his mind's contemplation.

There upon the lord of vampires, in his communication with his master the Devil did come across the Maiar and not giving this seemingly dead soul much consideration spoke unto him saying

"Move aside shade, for the dark one's annointed on Earth comes through."

Sauron responded with contempt "Who are you to speak to me in such a manner?"

Dracula smiled, baring his pronounced canines "I am Dracula, King of the Vampires, and Voivode of the Transylvanians."

Sauron was unamused "Simple Vampire King, I am the Maiar known as Tar-Mairon, the Admirable King."

Sauron expected Dracula to be afraid in the face of a Maiar but he showed confusion before closing his eyes in mock contemplation "Maiar? I know not what you are, but if you seek to be an enemy of mine, hehehe" Dracula's eyes widened with fury "You shall know the bite of death!"

Sauron responded in anger "Vampire, you shall meet your final oblivion!"

Fight!

Sauron conjured that which the mortal men call magic and prepared to smite this creature. Dracula noting Sauron's swift movement called upon the deep powers of the abyss's occult forces.

The collision of these two powers created a flash of light and darkness and the two warriors reappeared away from the nexus of death. Woods surrounded the two fighters. A full moon shone directly in the sky, shining down on the two fighters through the misty forest creating a dance of shadows on the forest floor. The wind howled like a wolf and scattered the leaves and sticks.

The two fighters gazed angrily at each other. Sauron raised his fist to strike a mighty blow on Dracula. Dracula recognizing the blow with his warrior training dodged out of the way, though the blow did shake the ground and created a mighty crashing.

Dracula countered with a strike to Sauron's mighty form, though it did not phase him. Sauron swiped at Dracula to his side only to find his strike go clean through him as though he were made of the mist.

A great roar shook the battlefield as the heavens were invigorated, a great storm encompassing the forest, with such thunder as to be heard for miles and lightning to sunder the trees. Dracula before Sauron's eyes seemingly disappeared into the pelting rain that had appeared from nowhere and from the heavens a great lightning bolt did strike at the Maiar's form, creating a crash that snapped the trees nearby at unnatural angles and for a moment did brighten the whole of the area.

However Sauron's form was unharmed by this assault. Before the count's eyes piercing through the veil of night, the shadowy form of Sauron altered and became a wolf creature larger then even Dracula's wolf form.

Dracula darted away as the wolf leapt at his position, the subtle sounds and smells of the vampire being unhidden before the Maiar. Dracula telekinetically threw the wolf, crashing through trees and stone and dirt, though the wolf was unfazed and swerved to battle again. Sauron called down a cold wind of the north, and it did blanket the area quickly.

Quickly whiteness overtook the area as the rain became snow, covering the area, making it difficult now for the count to see. Sauron returned to his normal form and felt through the snow for his foe...

Flying overhead, the count has turned to a bat, and, using his echolocation, maintained a visual of his foe. However Sauron observed the bat above and conjured an image to bring fear to him.

Dracula heard in his ears the ringing of the Latin gospel and before his eyes saw the crucifix appear, symbol of he who would subjugate his master and him. His warrior courage shook from him this visage. He called upon a thick fog to cover the battlefiend and obscure the area further.

The fog shimmered across the snowy landscape, as if the clouds had been plucked from the sky and were summoned across the battlefield.

But Sauron was not dissuaded and summoned from the belly of the Earth, the fires of the Earth's heart, molten magma emerging from the earth like dragon fire whose light flash evaporated the heart of the fog revealing the area with burning brightness. Dracula again tried to telekinetically send the the Maiar's form away, and did so though it did not harm him. Dracula perused and in the clearing the two prepared to face off again.

The clearing had emerged contained an overlooking hill spying upon parts of the civilization of man, castles dotting the hills and towns dotting the villages, with scares beams of moonlight illuminating through the tempest.

The Vampire beholding his enemy, had his eyes open with fiery intensity, and Sauron did feel burning heat sear into him, burning away his strength. Contemplating the intangible nature of his enemy, Sauron relinquished his materiel form and the shadow of his spirit did loom over the valleys as he slipped into the unseen world.

In amazement, did Dracula watch as his the material form of Sauron fell away. The ground fell away as Sauron smote the hill they had overseen from, though it did not affect the misty form of Dracula. The two dark intangible entities floated with malice in their hearts down to their spirits over their civilizations of man.

To the people beholding it appeared as though the great storm had manifested itself on the ground, with crackling thunder, winds shaking the ground and great darkness obscuring the sky all at once devastating the area. Rarely one might catch a glimpse of a humanoid image through the maelstrom. It seemed as though some malevolent demon had come to earth to wreak a hell upon the Earth, which was partially true.

As the two spirits's whirling elemental hatred did crash through a temple, the spirit of Sauron beheld a crucifix, recalling how it had harmed his enemy before. He manifested a form again, a crude form made in speed and grabbed the crucifix holding it before his enemy's eyes.

A searing pain emanated through the vampire's form. Sauron pressed the advantage moving at such speeds that the air itself broke to bring the crucifix upon the Vampire's stomach knocking him through the air and bringing the walls of the temple down.

But when the Dread Abomination rushed forward to look upon his enemy's body he found nothing.

Far below, at sizes difficult for the human eye to behold, the Count looked up at his foe from within the wreckage of one of the temple walls. Rain poured down near him, raindrops his size or larger with the water and darkness obscuring his enemy. His enemy had been of great stature but now stood truly gigantic. Dracula scuttled away from droplets of water like a microscopic spider on a wall. He looked at Sauron waiting for the signal as he dodged droplets of water.

Sauron stood up straight and raised his crucifix in apparent victory. Suddenly in a shifting of darkness a fully sized Count teleported before the Dread Abomination. However this has been planned by Sauron who had suspected his enemy's survival and given a false sign of victory to lure him out. While Dracula looked into Sauron's eyes ready to quickly hypnotize him, Sauron's arm was already moving at breakneck speed, crucifix in hand.

The Count recognized the threat too late and telekinetically applied pressure to the arm of Sauron causing the crucifix to dig into his stomach rather then slice him in half. Dracula quickly teleported behind Sauron but as Sauron moved to strike at his enemy fog again engulfed the area, covering the wreckage of the temple.

The whole expanse of the heavens did crack and snap at the form of Sauron through it's lightning, sending large sections of the ground airborne and causing a shaking and booming echoing through the hills but again Sauron was unmoved.

Dracula hunched over, the slice into his stomach burning him. The great shadow of his foe lurked menacingly through the fog.

The Earth quaked as the molten blaze again emerged, engulfing the area with molten heat and burningly bright light tearing through the for.

The 4 Elements crashed around them, the howling wind, the searing fire, the falling water and the quaking earth.

Dracula again attempted to sear the strength from Sauron, his burning vision paining the Maiar.

Sauron enraged took the crucifix and rushed towards the prone form of Dracula, prepared to finally end this conflict.

Seeing that this tactic was not working at close range Dracula's eyes changed from the blare to the insidious light of control attacking the Maiar's mind.

A battle of wills emerged, whereupon the two minds battled directly. Breaking upon the horizon the first rays of the dawn did appear and Dracula's mind did begin to falter. However the light's first rays appearing behind Dracula caused a brief vision of great Eru before Sauron's eyes.

Sauron seeing a chance did spring upon the Vampire, but the wounded count did teleport into the lava, knowing that the friendly fire could not hurt him and was brought underground where the Dread Abomination did follow into the fire.

However in the flames of Earth's hell did burn up the crucifix and Sauron realizing this plunged into Earth's Hell as a spirit of malevolence.

The Count re-engaged the Maiar in a mental battle. Sauron did behold behind the form of the vampire the shadow of Eru, burning down on him. Dracula felt the shade lingering on this mortal plane and beckoned to him be gone, and it was thus.

The Count hurried off to get to a coffin to heal from the battle.

K.O.

Truth be told, I thought Sauron would win until fairly late into this but I came to a realization that changed my mind.

So yes, Sauron  had strength and durability on Dracula. That said physical strength and durability were mostly irrelevant in this fight as both could become intangible at will, in fact in a slight way this was actually a weakness of Sauron's, which I will get to later.

Speed is a bit tricky for this one. If you take the high end interpretation of both then Dracula's MHS to Sauron's Hypersonic giving Dracula the advantage, but if you take the conservative interpretation of the two then it is subsonic to supersonic which would give the advantage to Sauron. However even if Sauron does have the speed advantage, he is not as much a warrior as Dracula and the difference is not so big that it couldn't be overcome, it's more like a single order of magnitude. Meaning if you take the conservative interpretation Sauron is speedy to Dracula but still within visual ability to see and given Dracula's greater experience and more warrior-like nature it's likely he could mitigate the speed disadvantage. Especially given his teleportation which would give him the ability to boost his mobility.

So if neither of them can affect the other physically directly how can they kill each other. Sauron COULD exploit Dracula's weaknesses but he would have to know them, and vampires in Lord of the Rings are VERY different then vampires in Dracula (LOTR Vampires are essentially giant bat creatures). Also to use a weakness of Dracula's, or at least most of them, Sauron would need to manifest a physical form, something that would otherwise be useless in this fight. If Dracula CAN affect Sauron then it would be while Sauron has manifested a physical form which means his desire to use Dracula's weaknesses coudl actually provide a slight weakness. Both of them have mentally affecting abilities but Dracula's are much more direct and from what has been seen work faster. Magic in the Lord of the Rings Verse can be a bit ambigious as to how it functions or how long it takes at times, whereas Dracula's mind controlling hypnosis and fear aura seem to be pretty immediate.

Also Sauron MIGHT count as dead, and Dracula can control the dead meaning he could theoretically control Sauron. I say MIGHT because Sauron is an immortal spirit taking on a physical body which has died before and that can be a bit confusing about different types of death since "Sauron" the entity did not die but he experienced brain death so theoretically his body could by raised? Regardless Dracula still would have the chance to control him. Which leads to next point and the thing that I think really changed my opinion. Sauron does not enter combat often and when he does he has a significant chance of shapeshifting into a combat oriented form such as a werewolf or vampire....both of which are creatures of the night (wolves and bats are specifically creatures under Dracula's control) meaning it's very likely Dracula would be able to control them. His hypnosis should also work. While Sauron can create illusions he has never shown the ability to immediately control someone.

Sauron is likely smarter and a better long-term planner by a good margin but with no idea on what Dracula is and with a very short timespan it's unlikely he would figure out some way of beating him.

Henchemen would likely not change the battle unless you include generals like Saruman but Dracula doesn't really have generals. Most of their henchmen would die immediately purely as a side-effect of their attacks on each other so it wouldn't really change much. While Sauron is referred to as "The Necromancer" as well much like Dracula I could not find information suggesting that Sauron could control the undead instead of just raising them which would only help Dracula who can control them and perform divination by them.

Overall Sauron is a rationalistic manipulator fighting good at playing the long-game fighting against a dark occult figure that is irrational and not gonna give him a long game to play.

The Winner is....Dracula

Next Time:

As always thanks to my friend Thor for providing the soundtrack to this blog and for giving this amazing next time trailer.

  1. Thanks so much for making this Imp Chan, It is Definitely in the top 3 predictions you have made to Me. I cannot believe when I thought of this match over a year and a half ago that it would actually come to fruition in such an amazing manner. I also can't believe I would one day see Novels of all things kick so much ass! I have wanted this fight for such a long time, its even in my custom DB season and holy crap this did not disappoint. It really captured the exact mood I had always wanted for this match its just so spooky Eerie and true to the spirit of October. Also I am glad i was able to call this right :)

  2. Great blog Imp, this might be one of my favorites of yours. I’m actually surprised that you kinda changed my perception of the characters: I would have imagined Dracula being the more manipulative one and Sauron being the seasoned warrior, but the reality is actually completely flipped (that’s what I get for thinking of their images in movies).

The research seems top notch and I’m impressed by your analysis of literature characters. You really use quotes from books to great effect to try to get an understanding of their powers. Your justification for Dracula’s win actually seems pretty solid after that analysis.

The battle felt really thematic for the characters and I think it was well done. The image of Sauron brandishing a crucifix is a mental image that I can’t get rid of easily; that’s actually pretty cool. Musical selection was perfect as well (good choices Thor). Overall, great job :). Next time is a character I wouldn’t have expected in versus battles.
