Okami-Verse Strategy Guide

How to be OP in Okami

Planetary Scale Threat:
In terms of raw power, Okami Low Tiers can compare to Amaterasu at the beginning of the game who was powerful to casually create a star with a dab of her celestial brush. Given that this was in a distant star system it would require speeds millions to billions times lightspeed. Even the most low level fighter can compare to this, even spiritually strong fighters.

Let's talk about the biggest problem with trying to fight in the Okami-verse. Raw numbers. Unless you are strong enough to just overpower or fast enough to just blitz anyone intruding in the verse is likely to just get dogpilled. Every local area it seems has it's own strong fighters, spirits, and demons, all of whom are at least that strong, let alone having their own local skills and abilities.

Beyond that there are plenty of powerful abilities in the verse, even if no individual low tier fighter possess many abilities. Lots of abilities that would stop any character with a physical form; poisons and diseases, freezing (freezing potent enough to freeze the soul), possession etc. On the mental playing field there are characters that can cause hallucinations and just good tricksters, as well as more esoteric abilities like Fire Eye which boils the eyes according to legend of anyone who looks at it, and Ice Doom Mirror which causes instant death to anyone who smiles at it. A direct physical confrontation by any one physical being is just gonna be instant death trying to fight some millions, likely billions of characters.

Also of note is that Black Imps and Blade Namahagas have potent regen and Namahaga in general are said to be embodiment of loneliness. Likewise there is large amounts of spirits in the verse such as the friendly Sakuya. As such some form of non-physical attack would likely be very important.

So that's all the trials of fighting the Okami verse. There aren't many, but there are a few.

The first one is seemingly the biggest one to me. Almost all the enemies in the verse are demons of some sort. Likewise there are lots of spirits in the verse. The thing Amaterasu is instructed to do for pretty much all of them is exorcism, and yes anything like that is going to be very helpful. Exorcism, Sealing Abilities, Banishment, Dimensional BFR. Anything like that would be very helpful.

On a related note the Tube Foxes are specifically noted to be controlled by magic-users so powerful magic likely related is also very helpful.

With that said how to defeat the numbers problem. Well the verse actually does have a weakness that should help, that being range. Most of the verse's low tiers, really everyone but the top tiers have a serious range problem. So being able to attack from out of range would be instrumental.

Another interesting weapon to use is stealth. The verse actually doesn't have very good detection abilities, in fact most people could not even recognize the Great Amaterasu upon seeing her. Likewise some of the most dangerous characters in the verse are shapeshifters that can disguise themselves. So invisibility and shapeshifting would be very potent weapons. This would be especially with high intelligence builds that can better exploit this as well as figure out weaknesses since most Okami characters tend to have a weakness related to their folklore.

Finally there is one more thing that would be super op in the verse but I've never seen brought up, that being brainwashing on a planetary scale. Belief and Faith in a power gives it much power, hence why Amaterasu is so weakened at the beginning of the game, and SPOILERS at the end of the game the devotion and faith of everyone is offered to Amaterasu and awakens her full power. As such a character who can control the thoughts of everyone could not only weaken other entities but could also massively boost their own power. And there certainly is no counter to that in verse outside of pre-emptive attack. There are a few characters capable of producing mild illusions/hallucations and this alone is seen as very dangerous.

So who would be a good pick? I have a few ideas

Mother Rapapa from Pretty Cure would be a good choice. Not only is she in roughly the right stat range but she has stellar class sealing abilities which would be massively helpful. She is an an intangible invisible force meaning she would be very hard to ever hit. She also likely has purification powers which would be immensely powerful against demons.

My next idea would be Anodite Gwen. Again right general power range, strong speed for the tier, and a powerful magic-user. Beyond that not only does she have massively versatility then the verse but her ability to control mana energy would possibly allow her to steal the mystic brush techniques and powers from the brush gods as well as being able to exploit the general weaknesses of the enemies. She also has superior range as well as exorcism abilities. Her ability to mess with the mystical energies could allow her to drain the spiritual power of most of the characters rendering them inert.

Bayonetta would also be a really good choice. She is very experienced dealing with demons but much more then that she has invisibility and intangibility and she has inter-dimensional abilities. Beyond that her witch time can also mitigate the speed difference.

However there's more to this. Sexuality and Distraction is very potent against some of the enemies in Okami (Ninetail for instance used this to her advance) so Bayonneta would have that edge. In addition she has a far more agile and mobile fighting style including homing attacks that the verse's more simple fighting styles would be hard pressing to counter. It's also possible she simply gain a lot of the demons of the verse as summons.

However there's one character I think would be even more well suited to the verse then the above 3, a character with almost no downsides.

Mandark.

First off he has billions of times lightspeed reflexes as well as mind-reading meaning he could easily avoid attacks. Not that people are going to attack him. Not only does he not look threatening which has often misled people in the Okami-verse but he is very good at stealth and manipulation. His intelligence is obviously absolutely massive and would be a boon there. Though if he needed more he could just shrink.

He's a powerful magic-user who could control the tube foxes, and can use his magic not just for summons but to dimensional bfr opponents which would of course be very helpful.

His death ray would be an instant kill against anyone in the verse, but he would likely have most success just bombarding it from orbit. Beyond that he has a planetary mind controlling device which would give him extreme power in the verse.

He even has time travel, which is something noted as really hard and powerful in the verse.

And it's not like his own weakness would be applicable here, as this verse would likely enrage him reminding him of his parents.

Overall he's just the perfect anti-pick

Universal Tier Threat:
So the strongest characters in Okami are a lot stronger at Galaxy Level+ And Trillions of times FTL-Quadrillions of Times FTL based on Midgame Amaterasu casually spinning a galaxy at 69 trillion c as well as Yami smashing Amaterasu through all the constellations.

At this point high intelligence is pretty necessary to not get deceived by the 9-tails.

Beyond that there are some powers that are really strong that are possessed like time stopping, power/energy stealing, Time Travel, control of the 8 elements (fire, water, earth, wind, thunder, poison, light and dark), Telepathy that can drive people insane etc.

General good things to have are not existing solely on the physical plane since that avoids a lot of the powers though it's not a super defense like it is against the lower tier.

While the range issue is alleviated, the stealth tactic is still probably a good one, as is one that involves quick brainwashing or destruction of the Earth since powers are drawn from there. Invisibility is helpful.

Outside of just the abilities from earlier but bigger, Another thing I think would be helpful is energy manipulation, especially assimilation to do basically what Yami did to Amaterasu. Speaking of energy manipulation my first pick...

Darkstalkers Sticker

Pyron.

I would have used Jedah but his regen is not has helpful here given Yami could steal it and I don't think he could take on Amaterasu without it given Amaterasu's power is the divine light of the sun which would be supereffective.

On the other Pyron, oh boy, Pyron. Supergenius, true form is intangible and invisible, but has cosmic awareness meaning he will have full knowledge and give his opponents none. Though he can also shrink if he wants to play it stealthy. Any emanation of his gravity, or just using his robots could quickly destroy the Earth, and he can outright absorb the spiritual energies of Amaterasu, especially her divine sunlight, to become even stronger.

Even if he does get threatened he can casually teleport away and absorb the brush gods/constellations into himself to both heal/steathen up and weaken his opponents at the same time.

That's a more aggressive strategy here. For a more defensive one...

Uriel from Bastard!!

Powerhouse for the verse without going over limits, his one limitation is his speed which is not great for the verse. However his Dispel Bounds and Eternal Atoms would make it nigh impossible for their power or hax to affect him making him an almost unstoppable threat over time. Not to mention his casual presence as a spiritual body could not only vaporize Earth but even through dimensions could likely turn people into pillars of salt or drive them mad completely destroying the power source of Earth. He also has other abilities mentioned earlier that would be helpful light high intelligence, shapeshifting and energy manipulation (said to be able to convert the energy of the universe to divine or demonic energy, which would give him a massive advantage against other Orochi of Yami by converting to divine and against Amaterasu by converting to demon). While he wouldn't win very quickly, he would be essentially unstoppable.

Another possibility without her strongest state is

Sailor Saturn from Sailor Moon. Her Astral State is naturally invisible and intangible, as is her spirit form, and her ability to release the silence would cause death to every living being, which would destroy the power source of Earth. Her Death Ribbon Revolution technique not only paralyses, not only creates lots of dark tendrils that the somewhat lacking in agility verse would struggle to avoid if they get in close, but it is NEGATIVE ENERGY crushing things into her negative aura which would completely cancel out the power sources of most of the Okami High Tiers.

It helps that not only is Hotaru a very experienced Soldier but she also has some level of cosmic awareness and resistance to most of the verse's abilities. Outside of Time Manipulation the verse has nothing that would affect Hotaru. Meanwhile if she just lowers her silence glaive it would be an auto-victory. And remember the verse tends to underestimate not strong looking things? Well Hotaru certainly doesn't look that threatening at first glance.

There's one more character which I'm not sure of since I'm relying on wikis to confirm her power level and they said galactic. If she was in this verse, she would be in my opinion the ultimate op.

Reimu Hakurei.

Not only does her defensive technique give her basically invulnerability in the verse but she is highly experienced in the mystic arts and all the techniques that makes someone strong in the low tiers. She doesn't look that threatening at first meaning the verse is likely to underestimate her.

Reimu also has precognition meaning she would be easily able to intercept the verse's attempts, including Amaterasu's attempt to stop time her which she could defend against clearly (assuming she knows it's coming)

She has really good sealing techniques which is really strong and the verse as well as binding/freezing techniques which would be helpful against the verse's lack of agility which she could also exploit via her teleportation.

She has esoteric abilities the verse has no counter too like probability manipulation. She'd easily be able to see through Ninetails disguise due to her ability to see through illusions.

Even if Yami stole her hax defense, she'd still be really strong. Why? Because Okami is a game based on Japanese folklore, and that is something Reimu has complete knowledge off. The way to win the game is to know all the little weaknesses of most of the creatures derived from their folklore and Reimu would completely know how to deal with all of them as it is her job too, meaning she would know the story behind all the characters and how to counter them.

And that's how to be OP in Okami-verse.
