How to be OP in the Asura's Wrath-verse.
Regional to Planetary Scale Threats:
A spiritual energy emanates from the land of Gaea. Humans used it to create great machines and supernatural skills. For this misuse of the planet's power, Gaea formed the Gohma, a race of demonic monsters representing the land's wrath to wipe away the impurity of humanity. However they are opposed by the advanced fleets of humanity led by the 8 guardian generals, godlike cyborg manipulating the awesome power of mantra. However one of them, Asura is framed for the murder of the emperor and is murdered so that the 7 remaining, renaming themselves the 7 deities, can utilize the power and suffering of his daughter, the priestress mithra, to gain further mantra.
On this tier, there exists the general technology of humanity and the swarms of gohma who are somewhat of a threat to the 7 deities. Of the 7, 5 are here, able to compete somewhat with Asura's lesser forms.
Wyzen, one of the 7 deities was able to grow vastly larger then the Earth and tanked the energy of moving his finger at relativistic speeds, calced at being well into the large planetary range. This is particularly relevant as Wyzen is stated to be the weakest of the 7 deities although this is argument contradicted by how well the deities do against Asura. It may be more saying he would lose a fight against the other deities due to their greater skill but would still require them to have somewhat rivalring power.
The Deities are easily able to travel cosmic distances like the Moon-Earth distance and dodge attacks from Gohma Vlitra traveling at over 4 times the speed of light. This combined with Gongen Wyzen moving himself just from sheer size at relativistic speeds supports most characters in this tier having relativistic movement speed and ftl attack/reaction speed.
The deities also have more unique abilities. Wyzen has the ability to grow to literally bigger then the Earth by a wide margin and has a shield that can shoot missiles and energy blasts. Kalrow has a supergenius intellect capable of creating advanced tech like holograms of himself and is a master of strategy. Olga is likely signifigantly stronger and more skilled then Wyzen as Deus's second in combat and showed minor freezing abilities. The vain Sergei showed the ability to take the souls of a city's worth of corpses at once to power the Deities machines. However this seems to only work on those already dead, so it can't be used to ignore durability but it can hypnothetically negate regeneration. Finally there is the combat-loving Augus, Asura's master, who has definitely vastly superhuman skill as he has spends his 12,000 years pursuing the thrill of combat. Augus possess his legendary blade "Wailing Dark" which can reach from the moon to the Earth and piece through the center of the Earth. He can also shoot sword beams and given his performance against Asura, it's likely he's the biggest threat of this tier.
So how to fight this tier? Well while the characters are clearly really powerful in their tier, their powers are actually fairly conventional DBZ-style combat mixed with some enhanced technology like missiles and holograms. Despite their mystical energy origin they don't have any really crazy hax abilities, so weird estoteric abilities would be a good boon.
Some other things that are good against the verse in general is general manipulator type characters. The 8 guardian generals are each known for a particular vice, a personality flaw like Augus's cocky arrogance and lust for battle or Wyzen being overly talkative and not taking fights seriously or Kalrow being cowardly. Someone who is a good manipulator would have an advantage. Also while not as big here due to the swarms of smaller enemies, there's actually not that many big named combatants. This means that tactics like summoning or duplication would be more helpful then normal; as it means one could match the verse's numbers one for one or better overwhelm them with numbers.
Finally, almost everything in the verse uses mantra energy. Energy absorption could cripple a lot of people in the verse. Even a lighter form like energy nullification would really lower their attack abilities since so many abilities rely on mantra.
So who would be a good counter to this tier? Well my first pick would be
Joker from Smile Pretty Cure!
Joker was able to fight all 5 Smile Pretty Cures at once, each being able to fight their dark counterparts who created dimensions for them to fight in one including an orbiting moon which would put Joker in the large planetary jump. In terms of speed Joker would be on the slower side as he scales signifigantly above his Akanbe who could move comparable to Cure Peace's lightning attack, although the tier is on the slower side of relativistic so it shouldn't be much of a problem.
Joker can use simple tricks like his illusions to replicate the strategy Kalrow did. In fact he would be fairly similar to how Kalrow fights given his strategic mind. Joker can also summon monsters called Akanbe by putting a clown nose on a normal object, Akanbe being able to also fight Smile Pretty Cure, making them legitimate threats and then for more power he can fuse with them if he needs the power boost to fight someone like Augus. He can also teleport around to make up for the speed difference.
Joker also has a few more tricks that would be devastating for the verse. He can absorb energy, which would nullify almost any ranged attack and he has mind hax like the Ball of Regret which traps opponents in mental dimensions where they lose their minds and memories or manipulate their sins with Bad End Alternate Reality, an ability that would work well against the vices of the seven deities.
The only problem I could see for him is given the speed/skill differnece, I could see Augus just hitting him with the sword and then either slashing through him or propeling him into space with it. While I don't think this would happen as Joker can avoid with teleportation and illusions and Augus only uses his blade against those he considers worthy opponents. It is something to consider. For an even better counter one could use
Malefor from the Legend of Spyro
Malefor is relative to end of series Spyro who put the planet together at relativistic speeds, suggesting Malefor would be comparable to the tier in raw stats. That said his abilities are far more versatile including many types of elements. He has far better ice manipulation then Olga and can also resist it much better. He has the fear element which would definitely work on at least Kalrow.
That said much more notable is his manipulation of dark aether which not only would neg the deities durability but also corrupts entities based on their characters which would be especially dangerous against the 7 Deities. It is said that he is the absolute master of darkness and has control over all evil beings, which would be on this tier all of the gohma and the deities. This is especially likely as mantra is spiritual energy and aether is specifically noted as spiritual in nature with dark aether being the corruption of things on a spiritual plane.
He can also manipulate advanced technology as he did to create the artifical species the grublins, which means that he could easily null the human fleets that might be used against him, possibly has time manipulation which is something no one on this tier has ever seen and can project omnidirectional forcefield which would be able to block almost any mantra attack used on him this tier.
The only possible way the verse could counter is hypothetically hitting from well out of his range. Also he might scale to low stellar which would be a bit too high to use as a counter. For the best counter to this tier I would use
Marceline Abadeer from Adventure Time
Marceline was able to somewhat fight with Flame Princess, elementals being equal to wizards who can destroy and create planets casually and scales likely to the Citadel Guardians who defeated an alien capable of violently destroying a planet. Marceline is also fast enough that she could seem like a blur even to Jake the Dog who scales to Charlie who moved from Ooo to Egypt in seconds, a speed feat caled at 1% lightspeed, putting Marceline at relative to the people in this tier.
Marceline has numerous abilities that work really well against this verse in particular. She has necromancy and can summon up an army of the dead, which should be fairly helpful against a few strong enemies. She is telekinetic which could hypothetically let her disarm Augus of his blade before he can use it, especially as she can also turn invisible, something no one in the tier is prepared to fight as there is no sensory abilities.
Marceline can absorb souls, a one-shot ability that would work on anyone here, especially as none of them would be able to see her coming with her invisibility. Even if she does get hit, she has better regen in the verse. While the seven deities can regenerate from losing limbs, Marceline can do it from being cut in half.
She's also gained hypnosis and transmutation from vampires she's taken the souls of which would be one-shot abilities for anyone here or shapeshift to disguise herself to get in close as an alternate to invisiblity. Everything the verse has she also has some counter, for instance if Olga tries to freeze her, Marceline actually has mild pyrokinesis used to thaw herself. Sergei can try to soul steal however she may not be technically dead as a human/vampire hybrid and she also resists soul manipulation scaling to her father who she absorbed the abilities off.
Finally she would be easily able to manipulate them. Not only does she not outwardly appear to be a threat, especially if she shapeshifts, but she is also a trickster figure and would likely be able to fool them if need be.
Stellar Scale Threat:
On this tier are 2 of the seven deities who rose in power to rival Asura's power at the end of the main game, as well as Gohma Vlitra.
Deus, the leader of the seven deities merged with the Karma Fortress, an enormous space station for whom the Moon and Earth look like tiny balls in comparison too. Moving this massive structure at relativistic speeds has been calced into the large stellar range. Yasha after attaining Vajra state along with Asura were able to compete with this form of Deus.
Yasha and Deus both have the common powers as the seven deities before them and more beside. Both Yasha and Deus possess teleportation and Yasha as the speedster of the seven deities possess movement far faster then most of them due to his speed boosts, to the point he can even blitz them despite their FTL reflexes.
Deus beyond the ability to become massive by fusing with the Karma Fortress to become Sakra Devnam Indra Deus, has a few more abilities. He has lightning manipulation, his casual lightning easily torturing the lesser deities, and he has telekinesis able to overpower the lesser deities motion. He can also apparently bestow visions as he did to Asura.
Finally there's also the source of the Gohma, the planetary sized Gohma Vlitra, the physical dark spirit of Gaea capable of devouring souls and can shoot lasers that move more then 4 times lightspeed.
In terms of weaknesses most of the same weaknesses, most of the same weaknesses still apply. Manipulation is not as good here, as Yasha is less suspectible to manipulation then most of the seven deities, and Gohma Vlitra is completely mindless. On the other hand summoning/duplication strategies are even stronger here, as the tier only has basically 3 combatants. Also Gohma Vlitra is basically mindless and both it and Sakra Devnam Indra Deus has the weakness that being so large, their core is more vulnerable and fighting smaller opponents possesses the same challenges a human might have fighting a fly.
So who would be a good counter? One good counter might be
Hellstar Remina from Hellstar Remina.
Hellstar Remina is a sentient malevolent planet who tanked a relativistic explosion of Jupiter and Saturn, meaning it would be relative to the tier which might struggle to hurt it, consistent it with it destroying constellations over an unknown period of time. In addition, Hellstar Remina's speed is stated to oscilate sometimes approaching light and sometimes just exceeding it meaning it would be relative to the tier in speed as well, if not on the faster side.
Hellstar Remina is a cunning celestial body, that manipulated humans into approaching thinking it was harmless until it was too late. It's highly unlikely any of the three fighters on this tier would realize it's danger. Hellstar Remina emanates a toxic gases and acidic atmospheres that dissolves living things, something that even the immortality of the deities has never shown the ability to stop.
However this alone would not be a good counter but Remina has two more traits that make it ideal. Firstly it absorbs matter it comes into contact with, assimilating it's properties be they organic beings or celestial bodies, like Yasha and Deus the living beings or Vlitra which is just the embodiment of Gaea's wrath. It''s possible if Remina assimilated Gaea that it would also be gaining the power of Vlitra.
Remina also induces madness which would be especially potent against Deus. The only ways I could see Remina being stopped are if the threat is noted soon enough and the Karma Fortress uses it's Brahmanastra, a mantra cannon that the deities were murdering humans for thousands of years and causing suffering to Mithra to power, or if Vlitra can devour it's soul. For another counter you could use
Tien Shinhan from Dragon Ball.
Tien during the tournament of power was able to do signifigant damage to a Katchin arena making him superior to Base Buu Saga Gohan who could not destroy katchin, Base Buu Saga Gohan having a signifigant fraction of Super Perfect Cell's power, who is stated to have the power to destroy a star system. In terms of speed, Tien is much faster then high relativistic to low ftl speed feats from early in DBZ meaning he should have top tier power and god tier speed for the tier.
Via ki manipulation, Tien has most of the abilities mantra manipulation gives. Tien should be superhumanly skilled as well, able to match the skill of Kid Goku who was able to copy ki techniques that took dozens of years to learn in seconds.
Tien is most famous for his duplication ability, an ability that allows him to create numerous copies of himself or his body parts. He can easily make 4 copies, which would actually give him alone a numbers advantage against the verse.
Tien also can concentrate his ki if he needs to for extra power with the Kikoho to blast through any mantra barrier Deus tries to use. If they try to avoid him via teleportation, he can use ki sensing to sense their direction, homing kamehameha to follow them, or the Solar Flare to blind them temporarily to land a hit on them. He also knows the Kiai technique which can outright nullify ki techniques. As mantra abilities are also spiritiual energy, it's likely this would nullify these as well, or he could likely copy them outright.
Tien also knows the Mafuba, a sealing technique which would likely work against Gohma Vlitra as Gohma Vlira is an impure being (literally immeasurable impure) weaker then other entities the Mafuba worked on. While he has no resistance to having his soul devoured per se, he can simply lead with duplicates and the mindless Gohma Vlitra will have no way of knowing which is the real him.
That said his stats may be too high for this, depending on how you scale him. For the best counter to this tier you could use
Saphir from Sailor Moon.
Saphir was not at all worried by the notion that they were going to the center of a black hole, and could threaten civilian form Usagi who was stronger then her first arc civilian form self as Princess Serenity who tanked energy like a supernova. He's also faster then FTL feats for low tiers of the Sailor Moon verse like the Weaver Stars traveling dozens of lightyears each year. This means he would be signifigantly stronger, more durable, and faster then the tier.
Saphir after his brainwashing from Wiseman wears Black Crystal earrings which allows flight and teleportation to match Deus and Yasha. However he also has numerous other abilities. He can teleport in from the future groups of his advanced Droids, robots relative to superior to himself in power and in fact always has two droids on his person.
Saphir's Black Crystal earrings can nullify energy including the mantra of the tier. He also has the energy-draining Beast Hands technique from Wiseman, which would nullify their power source with one touch. His crystal earrings also passively warp spacetime, something that would throw off the tier, unused to this ability.
Saphir also has advanced tech from the future, including bombs capable of threatening people much stronger then him, Black Moon Clan arc Sailor Moon and Sailor Venus, ufos that move faster then they can percieve and can put them in stasis fields so they can't move and some kind of sensor that can detect the movement of energy even through time.
That brings me to Saphir's strongest weapon, his supergenius intellect. His intellect is strong enough to create type 3 technology equal or even superior to the tech made in Asura's Wrath-verse as a whole. He could absolutley easily manipulate the technology and people of the verse, especially as he is used to manipulating Demande, his older brother who can and will threaten to kill subordinates including him for slightly going against his will. It would be perfectly in character for him to manipulate Deus to let him join his side before grabbing him with the Beast Hands.
Galactic to Universal Scale Threat:
The cycle of the world has been manipulated by the creator, Chakravartin source of all mantra energy. Chakravartin is a being who can so grow so immense and powerful that he can suck in an entire galaxy towards him and travel to the center at the galaxy at dozens of billions of times the speed of light.
Chakravartin the creator is most known for his creation and telekinesis abilities, creating mid-fight planets, stars and possibly galaxies and flinging them at Asura during their battle. Chakravartin has numerous powerful abilities beyond this. He can stop time briefly, he can create illusory realities called Narakas, and as the creator of mantra maintains and controls it's existence across creation. He can also shapeshift, often shapeshifting into a golden spider to manipulate others as he manipulated Asura for the entire game and in that form can bind enemies with golden webs. He can also teleport, even traveling between dimensions such as to travel between the afterlife and the living world or possess beings. As a being representing the cycle of samsara, the cycle of reincarnation it's likely he can induce the natural death of beings and prevent their reincarnation, thus nullifying regeneration.
However Chakravartin would be opposed by Asura in his strongest form the destructor. Asura the betrayed 8th general, cast down has the vice of rage, and as he gets angrier so too does he grow stronger, breaking out of the underworld and resurrecting himself through rage, or breaking through Chakravartin's abilities like time stop. Asura's rage runs wild and out of control, to the point not even Chakravartin can control his mantra, and Asura becomes Asura the destructor, the opposite of Chakravartin the Creator. Asura has mostly the same abilities as the 7 deities common powers, but gets stronger via rage, can resurrect via rage, fire manipulation, can resist most of Chakravartin's abilities via rage, and most impressively of all, can grow 2 more arms. Asura also has extremely high skill able to match his master Augus, who has 12,000 years of raw combat experience.
So this tier is a lot more threatening due to Chakravartin having way more hax abilities. However one of the same strategies can still really apply, that being manipulation. Asura is controlled entirely by rage and Chakravartin is clearly ultra arrogant, not used to anyone fighting back in the endless cycles of the destruction of the world. As such a stealth manipulation strategy would probably be a good strategy. While Chakravartin is clever, it seems like he could be manipulated.
Likewise this tier has even less fighters at 2 meaning stealth beating Chakravartin means one "only" has to beat Asura. Things like Summoning or Duplication would help. My first counter is a character that definitely wouldn't seem like a threat at first, that being
Stitch from Lilo and Stitch.
Stitch was able to survive a galaxy eradication explosion with only a minor injury even in his base state and can get even stronger via his power surge. This means he would be stronger in base and even if Asura got stronger via rage or Chakravartin used his higher form Stitch could compensate via his Power Surge.
In terms of speed, Stitch can match the speed of starships capable of moving intergalactic distances quickly suggesting he should be relative or faster to the verse.
Stitch despite seeming to most to be an ordinary Earth Dog is an actually a superweapon of destruction and could likely surprise attack Chakravartin while he is in his golden spider or his normal humanoid form before he realizes the threat. Even if he does, unless he uses his strongest abilities immediatly, which is very out of character Stitch could very likely counter.
Chakravartin may embody samsara the cycle of reincarnation but Stitch is an artifical ageless entity with no natural death and therefore would not die. While it seems standard for Chakravartin to trap entities in illusory Narakas, Stitch is not only immune to mind control, but he has various forms of super senses to see through illusions including able to hear sounds 3 miles away (4.8 kilometers) and smell 44 times better then a human as well as having alternate forms of sight like x-ray vision. It's completely in character for Chakravartin to put Stitch into a Naraka only for Stitch to surprise attack him when Chakravartin thinks he is incapable. This is especially given Stitch's amazing intellect.
Stitch has a brain that works better then a supercomputer able to build advanced technology out of garbage out of seconds and regularly convinces humans he is a dog despite being blue, suggesting he could manipulate Chakravartin he's not a threat.
Against Asura, not only would Stitch start stronger, but Stitch can match and even exceed Asura's skill level. While Asura can beat someone with over 12,000 years of experience, Stitch's still is that of a "1,000,000th degree black belt" in Karate. As it takes 50 years to become a 9th degree black belt, this is likely equivalent to over 5.5 million years of combat experience which is consistent with him beating an experiment designed to be the most skilled fighter in the galaxy.
Oh and while Asura can grow 2 arms, Stitch can do it too.
That said, Stitch might have trouble if they grow to giant size as his AOE isn't that high or if Chakravartin uses some of his other haxes. For an even better counter I would suggest
The Ninetails from Okami.
The Ninetails is relative to Amaterasu's brush technique which casually spun a galaxy at trillions of times c meaning a conservative interpretation of her is relative to the tier.
The Ninetails is an extremely skilled disguise-user and manipulator able ot do things like disguise herself as a constellation or manipulation entire kingdoms for years. She can turn her 8 tails into elemental themed minions that are credible threats to people on her level suggesting she would surprise and overwhelm Asura and Chakvartin. It's likely she has some level of time stop resistance as Amaterasu can stop time but had difficulty with the Ninetails.
Ninetails is also an immortal demon and is unlikely to be effected by samsara. Things like darkness, teleportation and possession compliment her ability to surprise her opponents and overwhelm her opponents in moments such as disguising herself as Mithra, possessing Asura and using his abilites to defeat Chakarvartin, killing them both.
In a verse of arrogant and viceful characters, Ninetails stealth and manipulation strategies are particularly good and even if caught out in the open she would definitely not be helpless with stats arguably higher then theirs, summoning 8 minions to overwhelm them, some resistance to their abilities and the ability to get away easy. That said if you want a character who can both surprise them and fight them head on, you could use my ultimate counter
Sephiroth from Final Fantasy.
Sephiroth's supernova attack was strong enough to destroy a dimension completely, a dimension large enough to contain a galaxy. He also guided a meteor into that galaxy at dozens of billions of times the speed of light meaning Sephiroth would be at least comparable to the god tiers of Asura's Wrath.
Sephiroth is much more versatile then either fighter especially Asura and can overwhelm them with numbers using his materia summons. He is able to summon 4, three of which are direct fighters using fire, ice and lightning while the fourth heals Sephiroth, giving him a numbers advantage against Asura and Chakravartin.
Sephiroth possess illusory capabities similar to Chakravartin, even able to recreate all of Nibelheim, however also possesses resistance as his strong will was able to keep his mind and memories from being erased despite falling into the lifestream showing a level of dimensional bfr resistance that would stop Chakravartin from sending him to the afterlife and also means he could illusion Chakravartin into thinking Sephiroth was under illusion when really Chakaravartin is the one under illusions especially as he scales to Jenova who can read minds, suggesting he could know what Chakravartin is thinking and play on that. This is especially so because after falling into the lifestream he is specifically noted to gain information about the cycle of life and death, white and black materia, which is the very nature of Chakravartin.
It's unlikely Sephiroth can be lead to death from samsara anyway as his Jenova cells are functionally immoral and will recreate a clone Sephiroth if he were to be completely destroyed as seen in Advent Children. Sephiroth can also deal wounds to people that magic can't heal suggesting he could deal blows to Asura that Asura would not be able to regenerate from. He can disguise himself via shapeshifting, suggesting he could trick Asura by changing into Mithra if need be, and even a brief vision was able to stop Asura's charge at Deus.
Sephiroth can also use heartless angel to drain the life energy from people. While this wouldn't instantly kill either of his opponents, as they rely on mantra for their powers it would likely weaken them and force Chakravartin to make more. Due to his connection to the lifestream after falling into it, it's possible he can do this more directly as well. He even likely resists time stop as his soul is in the lifestream outside of the conventional flow of time.
Sephiroth can counter basically every ability in Asura's Wrath, can match them in power, can take advance of every single one of their weaknesses and can use all their strongest abilities against them.
And that's how to be OP in Asura's Wrath-verse.
This was Great Imp, I Loved your blogs over the last month but I did really miss this format! I'm impressed how you can just do these on verses you aren't that knowledgeable on with dedicated research :) This verse does remind me a lot of Dragon Ball the powers in it are relatively simple and suited to traditional superhuman martial arts fighting flare, and at the highest tiers you get aa few actual hax abilities but characters can still resist them via sheer rage and badassery.
ReplyDeleteI really liked a lot of these counters! and i was really impressed at the research you did on them, Especially in regards to Marceline and Stitch, who i Really like quite a bit, was super fun to see how well they would do in this verse and I fully agree especially in Marcy's case. Stitch is funny i ended up countering him with Pyron who i thought would be a fair fight, turns out he counters Asura who shade thought would be a fair fight, makes me wonder Pyron V Asura now :P
Sephiroth is a LEGENDARY Counter really, like so boss and easily my fave here from a tatical standpoint, as you put it he CAN Counter literally everything and take advantage of all their weaknesses, hes their true nightmare, and will turn them from rage to despair....
This was a fun blog. I've heard Asura's Wrath mentioned quite a bit before; it actually seems like a pretty cool verse where it combines mythology with futuristic technology. I can see why you would compare it to Dragonball. With that being said, it's kinda surprising how complex some of these counters are, ability wise, for a verse that relies mostly on just power, rather than hax.
ReplyDeleteThe counters were all really cool. My personal favorite is Sephiroth, partially because he was such an awesome villain in FFVII, but also because I think he is an even better counter than I would envision him being. His resistances seem hand made to counter any hax this verse may have and the use of Jenova cells as a counter to the samsara cycle is really smart. Sephiroth countering Chakravartin's illusion tactics with his own most definitely sounds like a tactic he would use in FFVII and its spinoffs.
Other than that, I really like the use of Marceline as a counter. She really assembled a big grab bag of powers over the course of Adventure Time and it is cool to see her being able to put a lot of those abilities to use in this scenario. Also, Hellstar Remina sounds like a cool concept of an eldritch creature.
Asura's Wrath? Cool! Color me surprised, didn't expect you to blog on this series. I've seen bits and pieces of the game, it looks totally badass. And now to see how long I can talk about this blog before I start gushing about your final counter.
ReplyDeleteSurprised me to see the dude bigger than Earth be in the bottom tier, but with how insane things get in the final battle, it makes sense looking back. Brute force is the name of the game in Asura's Wrath, so it's understandable you would pick characters that instead force the locals to play a different game, whether that be with odd hax or savvy manipulation of the powerhouses running around. Joker is my favorite out of the first three counters; this blog started off really strong (and finished strong too!). His varied kit encompasses every weakness of the first tier, though Malefor is a beefier and therefor better answer to this problem. I did not expect that dragon to have such a good handle on advanced technology, lemme tell ya. And Adventure Time is so much stronger than I thought! I knew of Marceline, but had no idea how scary she could be! Soul hax is almost always OP, and this verse is no exception. Speaking of OP, it's refreshing to see invisibility be so strong in a verse with such high stats.
The second tier, hoo boy. I gotta start talking about my favorite counter in this section because they are near and dear to my heart. I can't believe Hellstar Remina made it into one of these blogs!!! Junji Ito is my favorite manga author of all time, and Hellstar Remina is the work of his that I've reread the most. It seems so niche, yet here she is! Thank you very much, this feels like a personal treat. While Tien and Saphir have a wider range of options to put this verse under their thumbs (a digit Remina doesn't even need), I still like the idea of the horrifying cursed star devouring this messed up realm. This blog makes me ponder things about Remina I hadn't even thought of, like does it even have a soul? It seems to have a malevolent will and an intellect, so there is a decent chance. Not much is going to survive contact with it though, especially at this tier. Shout out to you for the great job on detailing Tien's arsenal, he's way more impressive than I remember. And while Remina is my favorite in this tier, I do agree that Saphir is easily the best counter here. It was very effective how you saved his greatest asset for last, because by the time I reached that point of the blog, he already seemed to completely dominate the tier. And then bam! You lay out the coup de grace.
Final tier and did you ever save the best for last, in more ways than one. Reading about Asura and Chakravartin reminded me of when I saw the final battle for this game, and how off the rails with raw power it went. The Creator's list of abilities is very impressive, and would do many characters in even if he didn't have the ability to just chuck planets around. And Asura's even more terrifying when you realize that despite everything Chakravartin has going for him, he still lost to Asura. Speaking of Asura, I love that you countered his extra arms with Stitch's extra arms lol. Stitch has gotta be one of the more underrated characters out there: unless you know what he's capable of, you'd never guess how powerful, fast, and smart he is just by looking at him. Amazing calc on his battle skill too, that black belt is worth enough to blow my mind! Moving on to the next counter, that galaxy-spinning feat from Okami always impresses me. I don't know much about Ninetails, but I certainly feel well-informed now, and she sounds like the best manipulator so far on this list, taking great advantage of a weakness of the verse that you pointed out as early as the first tier. That possession hax of hers is OP too, such an easy way to end the verse.
Continued below
Continued from my above comment:
DeleteThere's just one more thing to talk about...Sephiroth! I can't believe it, your final and best counter to Asura's Wrath is one of my favorite video game villains of all time! I'll try not to accidentally write a mini Sephiroth blog here in the comments because you already did a fantastic job up there! I'm always kinda wary of using galaxy stats Sephiroth since for so many people it feels like a hard sell. The evidence is there though, and seeing as you've got wind of it, I can understand why you'd use him for this blog. Even without it, he should have the speed and hax to do whatever he wants here, including everything you mentioned and more. He's got a ton of special moves and abilities beyond the ones most people talk about, but ultimately it comes down to the ones you listed here, big hitters like Supernova and Heartless Angel. His tendency to puppet master the entire verse he's in from the shadows, manipulating minds, creating illusions, working via proxy through clones, all adds up to him being able to win sneakily as well as with brute force, just like you said. That sort of flexibility is exactly what a perfect counter needs to earn that title imo. I was especially intrigued by you bringing up the Lifestream and the cycle of samsara. It'd be cool to see how these two different life & death systems would interact if they met. In my opinion, Sephiroth would be able to keep his soul separate from the cycle of samsara in much the same way he kept himself a distinct consciousness within the Lifestream, rather than merging with it like most souls do. And it looks like you agree, so that settles it!
Thank you very much for the entertaining read Imp, I did not expect to find two characters that mean so much to me here beating the pulp out of Asura's Wrath. Helluva crossover, all thanks to your hard work! Blogs like this make me excited to see even more, so instead of urging you to take a break from all your hard work, I'll change my usual tune and say I hope to see more soon in the future!
